《Math God Plane - On Hiatus》Chapter 25: The Black Market

Shuxue was so irked he could die! How long would this adventure take? How many jade slips could he have processed by the time this shitty trip was over? His hand descended down to Zhujiao and slapped him repeatedly for 5 minutes.
“Bah!” Shuxue took out some soap from Zhujiao’s forehead and began cleaning his palm. “It seems I will have to make the best out of a horrible situation.”
His eyes glittered as he stared at the bluish-green ocean. To an outsider, it was a tranquil pool… but underneath its surface lay countless hidden struggles for supremacy!
The land continents were almost entirely the domain of humans, but the ocean continents were mathematical beast territory! Who knew how many beasts would die asserting dominance over each other every day? Who knew how much blood and urine was spilled inside there?
Where living things died, there was bound to be great treasures! Ocean 2 was a place of great opportunity. What’s more, Ocean 2 was ruled by the number one mathematical beast clan, with hundreds of Calculus stage experts. Their guardian Severed Spirit was the aforementioned bluish-green snake-dragon with brilliant red bird wings, white tiger legs, and the black shell of a turtle, the 4-in-1 Beast Spirit! Their Patriarch was even a mathematical lifeform, whose body had completely been purged of mortal filth and was constructed out of mathforce!
Such a power definitely had spare Limit jade slips!
The water began to light itself on fire as Shuxue’s eyes glittered. The issue with the Infinity Sector was that nobody could defeat the new Calculus dungeons spawning inside the Weakest Continent. It was impressive that they even generated enough mathforce to be able to spawn Calculus dungeons!
Shuxue coveted the Limit jade slip, but only the eight great Sectors would be able to farm them. Thus, while he was on this journey, he might as well serve the Watersnake Mathematical beast clan some justice and obtain a Limit jade slip in the process.
After a bit of walking, Shuxue, Zhujiao, and the Sphinx came upon a busy marketplace, filled to the brim with people.
“Join the Bandit’s guild, everyone!” A beautiful lady was handing out flyers to passersby. “We bake cookies every Sunday!”

“No, join the Assassin’s guild!” A hooded lady with bosoms so large she couldn’t possibly be a good assassin was handing out her own flyers. “You get to kill people and get away with it!”
“No, join the Thief’s guild!” “No, the Pedophile’s guild is where you want to go!”
Zhujiao stared at the multitude of people handing out flyers. “Why would there be a thief’s guild, or bandit’s guild, or rapist’s guild, big bro Shuxue?”
Shuxue rubbed his nose. “Don’t be silly, there is no rapist’s guild. Anymore.”
The two of them watched the Sphinx killing the members of the rapist’s guild. For some reason, no officials came to break up the fight. Everyone just watched, and the members of the gambler’s guild even began to bet on who would win.
“I still don’t get why there’s an assassin’s guild!” Zhujiao said, scratching his head. “Aren’t they supposed to be secret?”
Shuxue sighed, shaking his head. “Zhujiao, you poor imbecile. If there was no assassin’s guild, where would people go when they wanted people assassinated? If the assassin’s guild was secret, then nobody would know about them and they’d never get any business!”
“Yeah, but that’s against the law!” Zhujiao was still confused. “What is the city’s boss going to do about this?”
“Bah, Zhujiao.” Shuxue sighed. “I’m in a bad mood, but I’ll explain anyway. We are currently inside the black market! When people want to do illegal things, they simply go to the black market to do them.”
Shuxue nodded solemnly as he spoke. “Over the course of trillions of years, the authorities have always tried to crack down on crime, but another black market would always pop up whenever one was shut down. Thus, city officials have realized that destroying the black market is a waste of time.”
He waved his hands around at the surroundings. “It’s much better to have a single place where criminals can legally break the law without endangering the rest of the populace. Also, when people want people dead, they have an easy way to find somebody who is willing and able to kill. It’s just infinitely more efficient to have black markets like these.”

“Ohhhh, that makes so much sense.” Zhujiao nodded. “So this is the black market! That’s so cool!”
Zhujiao began walking down the black market, looking at the naked girls being sold. “This is so awesome! When we get back to the Infinity Sector, we need to start our own black market!”
At the assassin’s guild’s bulletin board, Zhujiao pulled off an assassination poster. “Hey look, it’s a mathematical pig with a light sword! He took too many assassination requests, which endangered the livelihoods of the assassins, so someone put an assassination request on him!”
Shuxue raised an eyebrow, muttering to himself. “So my subordinate, Jijian, has continued stirring up trouble. Hahaha, just as planned!”
“Big bro Shuxue, what’s the difference between bounty hunting and assassinating?” Zhujiao waved the poster at him.
Shuxue frowned. What was he, some sort of encyclopedia? “You idiot kid, how can you not know the difference between bounty hunting and assassinating someone? You hunt people for bounties, and you assassinate people for money!”
Zhujiao was confused, but shrugged. “Well, okay.”
Shuxue rolled his eyes. If he got any more stupid questions, he would just not answer them.
Having finished raping and murdering everyone in the rapist’s guild, the Sphinx had now set up his own stall.
“Selling pills!” The Sphinx roared. “These pills guarantee profound insights while you’re taking them!”
Instantly, he was swarmed by customers. Seeing this, Shuxue narrowed his eyes. He pushed his way through the throng to the Sphinx.
“Here, you have to hold one nostril closed while you inhale it. Just like incense!” The Sphinx was handing out sample pills and explaining how to use them.
“What are you doing, Sphinx!” Shuxue roared. “You can’t sell those pills! You’re strengthening our enemies!”
The Sphinx folded his arms. “So?”
Shuxue’s face turned purple with anger. Every person here was someone his Infinity Sector would probably have to kill! How could he just sit by and watch them gain profound insights?
“It’s against the rules of my Infinity Sector!” He spluttered.
“Yeah, well, I’m in the black market. What are you going to do about it?” The Sphinx folded his arms defiantly.
Shuxue’s eyelids began twitching in rage. He hadn’t expected the Sphinx would betray him over the topic of drugs, rather than social justice!
“Hahahaha!” A young woman threw off her clothes and put her arms around a frog mathematical beast, her eyes glassy from inhaling the pill powder. “Why is the sky blue around here, anyway? I’ve never thought about that!”
The frog’s tongue lashed out, tasting some powder for itself. After a moment of writhing, it answered.
“Yes.”
Shuxue watched, aghast, as everyone took the pills and began talking to each other, their eyes clouded as they gained profound insights into the laws. He needed to stop this disaster, but how could he violate the rules of the black market?
The Sphinx, very satisfied with himself, walked over to Shuxue. “Heh, check out my new innovation, Shuxue. This is secluded meditation with other people! I call it… unsecluded meditation!” He pulled out some drums from Zhujiao’s forehead and began to pound a beat.
“Turn up, motherfuckers!”
Everyone present who had taken a pill began to move and contort their bodies around in a ridiculous fashion. Jade slips and pearls fell out of their pockets as their clothing fell to the ground.
Zhujiao’s eyes bugged as he watched the unsecluded meditation.
“This… this is immoral!” He gasped. “You can’t do these things without me, Zhujiao!”
Before Zhujiao could inhale a pill, Shuxue’s steel-like hand sent him reeling onto the floor.
“Don’t be stupid, Zhujiao!” Shuxue roared. “Do you see them all dropping their pearls? If you took part in this unsecluded meditation, you’ll drop all your pearls!”
Previously, Shuxue had been angry, but now, his eyes were glittering. “This… this is an excellent opportunity! Quick, Zhujiao, go collect all their pearls and jade slips!”
Zhujiao’s eyes were bloodshot as he stared at two people shedding worldly filth with each other, but he reluctantly complied. If he lost all his pearls, then he would lose his Plot Armor!
Endure! He had to endure!

To survive a world fraught with danger Jayce will need to grow stronger with each new experience and rebuild his once forgotten house. ********************************************************************** Note: The story starts slow. Although there is more action as the story progresses, there is a fair amount of introspection and character introduction in the first 30 chapters. Jayce is the main character, however, other characters play a large role and the story is seen through multiple POV's. This is a draft, it is not a finished work. This is not a story that focuses on an OP MC who beats up on weaklings. At times there can be a fair amount of internal monologue. Some of that may be edited out when I rewrite the story. I decided to keep it in the draft because I think it is better to have too much material rather than too little when I edit. Constructive criticism is appreciated as it helps in the editing and rewriting process. Check out my other story Shattered Mind here
