《Truck-Kun's Adventures in Isekai-land》2. Friends

My engine was thumping. I was very confused.
I turned on my eyes and looked around. For miles around, there was nothing but rich grasslands. The grass was vibrant and lively, nothing like the half wilted grass I usually saw near streets. A few trees were scattered here and there. I could hear birdsong and crickets.
I was stunned. Where in the world was I? Did someone haul me into the wild for whatever reason?
Just a moment ago, I was... what was I doing? I focused and tried to recall. I was minding my own business, listening to music from my dear Radio and humming along. Then... some maniac ran in front of me? I vaguely recalled trying to brake, but nothing more than that.
Wait, no. I did remember something else. I tried very hard to recall, but all I got was a very blurry image of a strange woman telling me something. I immediately disliked her for some reason. What did she say?
Something about... another chance?
...
Something clicked in me. I was killed by that random maniac! And now a weird girl repaired and sent me to "another world"? No! That wasn't possible! I tried to suppress the feeling of horror within me. There was no way she sent me to a different planet. Such technology had not been invented yet! I-
"Hello?" said someone in a feminine voice.
AHHHHHH! I snapped out of my thoughts and tried to pinpoint where the sound came from. I realised it came from inside me.
"Yeah... I'm in here." said the same voice.
Someone was in me? And how were they reading my mind? I hurriedly looked inside myself. Thankfully, there was no strange human inside. There was only my friends, Radio and Tablet resting on my seats. Who said that then?

"Me," said Radio.
I stared at it in shock. How was it reading my mind? But more importantly, Radio was talking!
"Haha... that's a bit embarrassing," it said sheepishly.
I suddenly had a strange feeling that if it was human, it would have blushed.
"Sorry about the mind-reading. I can't help it, I just sort of hear you whether I like it or not. Ah! Not that I dislike hearing you, I'm just saying like uh..."
I get it, I get it. But more importantly, do you know what is going on?
I held back my mixed feelings and decided that this was the biggest priority at the moment.
"You know that weird girl you talked about?"
Yeah?
"Well uh... don't call me crazy, but uh... she claimed she was some sort of goddess?"
What? So she was delusional?
"I mean... I'm not sure. She did send us here in the end. She also gave me the power to talk I guess. Basically, she said that we all died. So she decided to reincarnate us into a different world. I'm not sure why she would do that, to be honest."
I was getting very confused. My mind hurt. Was this what the humans called a dream? No, that would make no sense. I have never dreamt once in my life, not even while "sleeping". But in any case, I was sort of happy that I had someone to talk to.
To distract myself, I looked through all my insides. To my shock, all the machines in my cargo compartment were gone! Why? Why did the strange girl let me keep Radio and Tablet, but not the rest of my friends? I felt like weeping. That girl is so cruel!
"I think what happened is that both me and Tablet were the only two that died since we were in the front. The rest were safe in the cargo area I guess?"

Noooooo! Why did only Radio and Tablet die? I wanted-
Wait, I didn't mean it that way!
Radio chuckled.
"It's fine, I understand. In fact, I-I'm actually glad to be here w-with you." it stuttered.
That didn't stop me from feeling slightly guilty. What type of person bemoans friends not dying with them?
"I said it's fine..."
I can't stop myself from thinking that!
"Sorry..."
It's fine! Don't worry!
It was then when both of us realised the irony in the situation. We laughed awkwardly. I decided to "say" something after a slight pause.
What about Tablet then? Did the "goddess" give it the ability to talk?
"I'm not sure. Tablet, are you listening?"
Suddenly, Tablet lit up, much to my delight. I was filled with excitement. Finally, I would get to talk to Tablet for the first time ever! Maybe that "goddess" wasn't too bad after all. For too long, I had been unable to talk to my friends!
Words started forming on the screen. Hmm, so Tablet felt didn't feel like talking directly? Or did the girl not give it the power to talk via audio?
[Can you stop acting like that? You're getting on my nerves here. And did you bother to check if we were indeed your friends? Maybe Radio did consider you a friend, but can you say that about the rest of the machines? Personally, I do not consider you a friend.]
Shock. That was the only word that could describe how I felt. My heart was breaking, falling apart.
[Cheesy.]
Dammit! Why could everyone read my mind? I felt very upset. I couldn't even hear them and had to rely on listening and reading! That damned "goddess" must be be doing this to mess with me!
[To be fair, you do not have a speaker system for some reason. She has good reason for doing this.]
It's still unfair!
I heard Radio trying to hold back its laughter. Great. Even my one friend in this situation is making fun of me.
"No no! Don't get me wrong! I just found it funny, that's all."
How was that funny? I decided to change the topic.
Let's stop arguing for now.
"I wasn't arguing though..."
Whatever. More importantly, what are we going to do now in this "new world"? Do we just die here in the wilds? It's not like I can just find fuel here, I'll starve! And the battery supply in me isn't going to last forever either, so you two aren't safe either!
For some reason, I felt like Radio suddenly got really nervous.
[I'm glad you asked.]
What do you mean?
[The Goddess has given me the power to help you.]
What?
[Say "Pleaaase!".]
Why would I- Alright fine.
I decided now wasn't the time to argue despite Tablet being completely unreasonable.
Pleaaase?
I expected to see more text pop up from Tablet, but what I saw confused me. Was this some sort of joke?

The Painter: A fantasy psych thriller and epic
*** June 21th Update ***- New chapters are being posted! I haven't figured out a schedule yet, but stay tuned!- Thank you to everyone who has read and reviewed, I'm happy to say The Painter is in the top 200 best-rated fictions. - Readers of The Painter have suggested reading through Chapter 6 before making a decision on this book.- The story takes place in the Lootverse, but you don't need a canonical understanding to appreciate the storyFinally, a warning or reader beware: This is not an action novel (despite the coming fight scene) but a slow-burn psychological thriller of sorts. For a time, the Painter's life was simple. He lived in the small town of Kinon (called Kinney by locals) with his wife, Kahriah and his son, Thesdon. The story begins with him alone and unable to travel more than a few hundred miles from his home. For 5 years he tried to chart his prison until one day a letter appears with a mysterious commission that will see him test his condition and his boundary. Set roughly 50 years before the impending end of days (from Loot canon), The Painter is a story about loss, grit, and exploration of a seemingly normal man in a world of magic and monsters. The Painter will follow the man on his adventure to restore his family, uncover his commissioners and discover the nature of his condition. Loot is the decentralized, global, community built fantasy world based on Dom Hoffman's art/tech experiment: Loot. Fun fact: The cover of our book is painted by the artist, who the MC is loosely based on and the same person painting the Banners (digitally) IRL for an art/worldbuilding project.
