Chapter 5
Calm Before The Storm
After I had awoken from my sleep Samatha who I called Sam now for short was already up and helped dress me. After getting dressed I made my way to the dining room and ate breakfast with Mother and Father.
We ate breakfast and after that, I headed off towards the study. Once I made my way towards the Study to research more about my magic, however, a loud explosion occurred from afar shaking the ground.
I was shocked initially but became calm again and quickly used my newly learned space magic to create a basic portal seeing as I have yet to learn leaping or teleportation magic.
I made a portal to the top of a tower near the edge of the mansion which I saw through the window and then scouted the area to find where the explosion came from.
I had found that a nearby Orphanage was on fire and then quickly created another portal near the orphanage. Once I arrived through the portal I saw that the explosion from earlier was the result of magic caused by someone.
I quickly began searching for survivors through the use of blood sense which was the easiest skill I learned from the Book of blood. I saw that there were countless people alive who were all already out of the orphanage.
However I saw that there was one person left inside who was hidden somewhere down underneath the orphanage. I quickly tried to check their situation, they were barely hanging on by a thread as their pulse was getting weaker and weaker.
I quickly made a blade of blood and sliced up the rubble around the area where they were and found a cellar-like door beneath the rubble. To my surprise it was a girl roughly around my age who was breathing very heavily.

She had Dark red hair which was a bit dirty due to the debris which was around her. She had tattered clothing which showed that she wasn't treated well in the orphanage. This made me further worry for the other children.
As I thought this I heard her mumbling, she was calling out to someone. I quickly put her on my back and made my way out of the burning rubble going back through the portal arriving back at the tower.
I quickly laid her down and checked her condition. She was doing better and began breathing normally. I made sure she was fine and then made my way back down near the orphanage and tried to find out what happened.
I used my blood to find the rest of the children who had escaped and found that they were with a group of people making their way deeper into the forest.
I silently followed behind them and observed their actions from a distance. After 30 minutes they arrived at the entrance of a cave and ushered the children in.
One of the men started laughing and said “What a great load of money we are about to make!”
Another replied saying “Thanks to acting like orphanage workers we were able to gather a large number of kids this time. We are gonna make it big and rich!”
After they made their way in I also made my way in once I saw that they went deeper in as to not be found out about and what I saw made me sick to my stomach.
Children were put inside cells but upon closer inspection, there were some children who were dead. There were even children from different races such as elves, Harpy, Oni, half-breeds, and beastmen children.
Some of the children were lying on the ground and upon using blood magic I was able to verify some of them had died from malnutrition or illness. I used blood magic again to scan how many children were alive and was able to count 223 kids along with the 10 other children from the orphanage.

I used some space magic and distorted the space around the cell bars which allowed the children to make their way though. I silently told them to go towards the direction of the exit which I pointed was back the way I came from. I said for them to hide until I come back out or to leave if I don’t within 2 hours.
Most of the children were skeptical about what I said but they nevertheless nodded and made their way towards the exit. I made my way deeper in freeing more children and telling them the same thing I said to the prior groups of children.
Thankfully due to my trait of multilingualism, I was able to communicate to the other children of different races to head out towards the exit. The further I went in the more horror that I saw.
There were rooms filled with corpses of children of various races who were all mangled and who seemed to be experimented on. I felt even more sickened by their condition which prompted me to quicken my pace to make sure the children from the orphanage were safe.
When I finally arrived I found the children but I was too late as 1 of the children died due to being abused by one of the men. I glared daggers at the man who was the sole cause of the kid’s death.
However, I had to restrain myself from acting as it would blow my cover and alert the men that there was an intruder.
Just as I was calming myself down the men then started using spells creating fire and wind and then they aimed towards my direction.

Nights of Sambria: And the Wish of Light
“I discovered a secret. One I desperately wish could have stayed hidden. It was locked away, concealed in a fantastical world on the doorstep of 7 billion people who stayed utterly oblivious to it. If they will be spared the terror that is coming, I can’t begin to imagine. Know that a forgotten heritage of a dwindling people whispered, unknowingly sending a call to the ancient mysteries of the world. Something listened. And now events are set in motion that could force the earth on a course of terrible change. I am being hunted and have run out of time. There were no stories about it. No legends. Not even scribbles. Yet, the threat of it is real and that’s why I’m writing this warning with shaking hands. So pay attention those who read this, be careful of what lies waiting cloaked in the darkness. That which made their home the lost places of this world.” She folded the letter with a shuddering breath and stared back in the direction from where the noise reverberated through the halls. It was of stone doors shattering one by one. The chances of getting out safely were all but gone. The letter in her hand was all warning they would have. It dropped into one of the Wells and all that could be done now was hope it was found in time, if at all. -- This was my very first large story. ;) I started writing it years ago. Was fun, was difficult, but in the end, it is a story I hope that will inspire. The prologue is in first person perspective and the rest of the story in 3d. Just a little heads-up :P It is a fantasy epic with a contemporary twist for the start. The first arc of the novel is set inside our modern world, but as the mysterious events around Calin intensifies, the hidden secrets in the world start to become more fantastical. The story follows Calin, a young orphan in search of answers. But, the answers he seeks will change his life and that of his friends forever, for the secrets that caused his situation have far greater ramifications than the small village of Lamb's Crest could have known. Remember to leave ratings and reviews. I'm quite interested in hearing your thoughts on the story. ;) Enjoy reading, Omri Hope
