《One man army in a marvel universe》Silent and sleepy

I woke up around noon, to my despair I found nothing in the house for breakfast, so off I went too either buy things at a market or to fine a diner. I found a nice place, I had miself some good old pancakes. Of course I had to dodge a few more inquisitive question from the nice but nosey waitress. Lookes like I have to avoid this place, I guest having a young twelve year old eating alone in a diner raised a few flags.
Today hiccup at the dinner, could wait a bit longer before I would need to reflect on it. Right now on my list of things to do, I needed to find a second base, just in case I needed to retreat from the one I had now. But first I would need a computer, sadly my new host home propably already sold his for cash. So first place was an electronic shop, then back home for some work on my programing research. Hopefully the guy had a internet signal, or else I would have to jump threw a few hoop before getting started.
I wave goodbye to the waitress making sure to leave a nice tip and made my way to an electronic store, hey maybe I should go for a laptop instead, it would be better for a quick getaway. Finding and buying a laptop was easy, I even bought a few games for when I would get bored. I also couldn't help it, once at the store I also splurge on a couple more gadgets and doda.
Once home I cross my fingers hoping for some good luck. "Yes gambler is still hoke on the internet. Ah crap, he only has the worst network signal. Well good thing I know how to fix that." After an hours of arranging a better service signal, I finally got to work finding out if I could track down a secondary base. After a little digging I found a place, using a few letters by the door that had some credit card info on them. I mannage in renting an out of the way place near the egde of town.
"Right, grocery almost forgot about that, but first I should clean the place up a bit before going out and getting anything I need." I got up and gave the place a quick clean up, hell their was still lots to do, but I focus mostly in the kitchen and the room I pick to sleep in. Once done I made my way to a bus stop in order to get to a near by grocery store. Coming back from my resupply run, I curse the fact that I couldn't just take the damn car an drive their an back. Unfortunately the surprise a twelve year old driving a car without anyone else, would no doubt draw the wrong kind of attention right now.
After putting away all the grocery I took time to relax, I check my next target address again by hacking into the police data base. I grimace thinking that this skill I had would only get me so far. I mean yeah right now, I was no doubt the best or one of the best in the world when it came to programming. Sadly once the rest of the world caught up to my skills, I would no doubt be left in the dust. My biggest advantage right now was having come from a earth timeline that was a little more down the road with a similar computer technology in the future. Only this world just had a few addition of super power mutant, magic and aliens walking around or getting into fights every two days.

"Among gods and monsters, that a nice summary of my current situation. Let not forget that Peter curse luck Parker is my little brother. Which mean if I don't figure some way of getting power, in the future their a very real possibility of me getting a target on my back, just because I'm Peter big bro." I new that whatever I did to avoid that possibility, it wouldn't matter. Hell I could try running away, but somehow I had the feeling that I would still get tangled in his mess.
Instead I figure, why not try and get a few aces up my sleeve. So here I was in new mexico planing in getting a mutant power that could potentially change the out come of the world. From a young age I figured that I wasn't in any of the earths of the marvel universe I knew about.
Hell, on this earth mutant were a thing the world was aready talking about on the news. Two of the major forces like the xmen and the brotherhood where already in a publicity war against the government. You see this world had gone down on a weird path in a way, I had been surprise over this when it was introduce about it in history class of all places. This world didn't have racism problem, well it did but just on a much smaller scale, it was instead replace by mutagism. Yep here are ancestor went to persecute not base on religion, color of skin or culture instead they went, "Oh look they have different color skin, well that ok. Look over here they have a different belief then use, well you know what thats ok too. Wow this one has gills on his neck, lets enslave that one."
My mine was blown, after finding out that despite all their powers, mutant such a distasteful name. They we're still considered as a second class citizen, in almost all parts around the world. In the Americas both north and south, also many parts of Europe, Euro Asia and Asia most of Africa and in some parts of the Middle East, the life of mutant were not to bad. Sadly the public view of them weren't great either. Any mutant unfortunate enought to have more visible mutation, would fine themselves ostracize from the majority of the population. They also were more likely in being stop by police for 'random checks' as soon as any crime happen in the area. Also mutant were bane from applying for any police or military position officially at least.
After some digging, on my part I found that only a small percent of people ever gain mutant powers. Meaning that mutant were for centuries out number from a thousand to one. Most power couldn't over come larger numbers, add that the technology was created with mutant powers in mind. Yeah power block tech existed, also a few druggs that did the same thing as well. As for the whole cure mutants things, yeah that didn't exist.
The reasons was similar as to why mutant we're considered a second class citizen. The benefit of certain power offer out weighed the cons from the more destructive power. Like for instance the power to heal, or the ability to construct a house in a day instead of weeks. That was only the tip of the iceberg, hence the publicity war. The xmen and the brotherhood were both vying for better acceptance. The xmen went for a more equality approach, live as equals among the law also the right in entering the police and military. As for the brotherhood they tended in having a more radical ideology, the independence of mutant. They wanted land, so they could run things the way they wanted, far from any world government influence. Sadly that wasn't likely, so tension between the brotherhood and the current government was only held back by the xmen who found themselve as the peace broker between the two. I wasn't sure how long the brotherhood and government could hold off, before coming to a breaking point in keeping things civil.

The sun was setting, It would be time soon. I looked at all my prep work, this time I was going to do something that would no doubt gather a lot of attention. The info I found in the police data base was disturbing in a way, the place I was heading into was very well knowed. It was monitored loosely but remained untouch since it was protected. So even if I knew all this I still decided to go ahead with the plan.
First off, I place all my stuff in the car, also a few extra bags as well. Next I drove to an out of the way parking lot. This place was perfect, it had cameras around but nothing inside. Going back out I only took the bare minimum in equipment with me. I called a cab once I found a pay phone, the drive over was uncomfortable the driver keep asking me where are my parents, why was I out so late. I actually got out earlier at a fast food place just to lose him. Hell I had to enter and pretend in joining a group of teens, I offered to buy whatever they wanted and all they had to do was pretend that I was one of them for a few minutes.
Minus a few hundred bucks poorer, I grumble once more on my bad luck on falling on the cab driver with a golden heart. I swear the guy was on the edge of adopting me just so that I wouldn't be alone any more. After catching a second cab, luckily this one was only interested in knowing if I had money for the drive.
"Are you sure this is the place kid?" The cab driver looked in his review mirror with a raise eyebrow.
"Yup, this is the place. Don't worrie I know this is a ruff place in town. I just need to talk too my friend he's about to make a stupid choices, Im here to convince him other wise." I proceed in telling a bull crap story about, bad environment Ron, the boy who live a crap life.
After placing the last dollar in his hand, the cab driver wave me away not bothering in listening to the end of my tear jerking sad sob story of poor little Ron. Once the cab drove away, I took out a slip of paper with an address. I reach for my pocket only to freeze, I shook my head in regret. One of the hardest thing I had to get use too was the lost of the cell phone. I had more then once debated the pros and cons of fast tracking that little marvel.
Looking around I finally found my barring, heading toward what was no doubt to be my most risky and attention grabbing move. After this I was positive that it would attract all kinds of attention. I just hope, that none of them would have the skills or abillity in tracking me down yet.
Arriving in front of the house I was looking for, looking at it you could see that who ever own it didn't care in maintaining the house in any good shape. Good sign that I had the right place, I turn and walk away, all the way to the next corner. If someone was to follow me on a map they would notice that I had walk all around to the house on the direct opposite of the one I had stop in front of. The two house were now separated by a simple wooden fence.
I snuck into the backyard of the house, lucky for me the owner remained completely oblivious to my presence. Once I was in front of the fence, I put on my mask and gloves. I took a few steps back got myself a running start, jumping on the fence I barley manage to grab the top. I then pulled myself over the top and drop down on the other side.
Creeping towards the window I took a quick peek inside, good no one seem to have notice anything. I found the back door, taking out once more my trust worthy lock pick kit. I fought the lock, after a few minutes I was victorious. Frowning I started questioning my skills on lock picking, it was harder then it looked, in the movies the actors always made it look so easy. Hmm, maybes I should add it on the ever growing list of things I needed too master.
Once the door was unlock I slowly open it, looking around. I didn't spot anyone, good the next part would be a cake walk as long as no one open a window. Reaching into my fanny pack I took out a sleeping tube. Picking the smaller hose I screwed it on the tube, making sure the hose pointed away from me. I slide a small switch on it, I could hear a small tick tick from it, this started a small delay release of ten seconds. I quickly rolled it on the floor inside of the house as I closed the door. I took out another mask, replacing my ski mask with a gas mask.
I sat down on the pavement in front of the door as I took out a watch, starting a timer for twenty minutes. That how much time it took for the gas to disperse, even once the first gas cloud disipated. Just a small lingering part of it in the air would knock any normal grown human out. The more one inhaled the longer you stayed in dreamland.
This of course would've been impossible by myself, all credit had to go too my father he been the one who came up with the formulas. But of course my mother had pointed out all the negative use this gas could have been used for. So like the good people their were they destroyed the formulas, and any samples they had on hand. I manage to salvage the data from their hard drive, recreating the gas even improving on the prior formula. As for the tube and hose, that I had come up with it myself.
I swear, living with not one but tree geniuses. Was a nightmare sometimes, like one of my most cherish and dreaded memories. When Peter was only three years old, he was sitting beside me in the living room watching as I did my math homework. He started asking questions about what I was doing. Me being the caring loving older brother, told him that I was doing my math homework. He ask if I could teach him as well, my mother overheard him ask and encourage me in teaching Peter just basic math. Well six months later, every time I sat down to do my math home work. Peter came in running up to me, took one look at my home work, loudly pointed and shouting in glee all the anwser. Even before I started, now the reason he did this isn't out of arrogance or to show off. No I had the not so bright idea of telling Peter that if he help me solve my math we could play together. Now keep in mind that, I only said that as a way of encouraging him in his progress in the subject, not as a way for him to have more time in playing with me.
By the time my reminiscence was done, twenty minutes had past. I got back up, taking out another tube i place a even shorted hose on it. This one was curve in an angle with a button just were my thumb was. This one didn't have a timer it was for a quick short burst, of course you had too be really close for it to work.
Armed with my self made sleep gun, I walk in the house. In theory everyone inside should be in dreamland by now. But their could always be a surprise waiting at the next corner for me so until I made a complete sweep of the place. I had to remaine on guard just in case. Beside if it came to a fight no way in hell was I coming on top, they all had guns. I wasn't deluded enough too believe that I could just waltz around unharmed, in a house full of drug dealing gangsters.

Delicate as Glass
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Nuri, an [Assistant Glassworker], only has a single Skill. It’s really not fair. He’s worked in the hot shop his entire life, following in his father’s footsteps after his parents passed away, but he’s stuck. Despite possessing above-average talent as an artisan, he still hasn’t shed his [Assistant] status, gained a second Skill, or even leveled enough to reach the first Threshold. Besides, he’s bored; most days he daydreams of adventure and becoming a hero, or pines for the renown that’s sure to be his if he evolves his Class into a [Master Glass Smith], but nothing ever changes—until suddenly, fate strikes, and nothing is ever the same again. These days, Nuri sees more magic, prestige, and adventure than he can handle as he gets swept up in realm-shaking conspiracies and desperate fights for his life. Maybe a boring life wasn’t so bad after all. Disclaimers: 1) Names were mostly chosen through random generators and aren’t necessarily final. If they seem derivative or boring, blame RNG. 2) Skills, Classes, levels, and the entire system is currently a work in progress; please be kind if it’s not very well fleshed out yet. 3) This is the first full-length novel I've set out to write without a single plot point ready. I had nothing in mind other than a recent visit to a hot shop. Molten glass is pretty awesome. 4) Related, I know much less about glass than I’d like. I did some research, but mistakes are bound to happen. If you have a correction, thanks! Please be polite about it. 5) The prose is my experimental attempt at first-person, present tense. I realize it may not be everyone’s preference, but I hope you’ll give it a try anyway!
