Prologue: World, me and goodbyes
Hello, my name is Risiel but everyone just calls me Ris. Today I am 10 years old and finally I’ll be able to study in Colean magic academy, but let’s not speak about that just yet.
First of all, let me tell you about my world. The world is called Lizien. On it there are 7 continents. 4 of them are completely unexplored. You probably think how can we know about them when they are unexplored? That’s simple. Many ships ventured to them, but none who stepped foot on them ever returned but those that stayed on the ship spoke about the tales of those continents or at least that’s what I read about in one of my favorite books called “Mysteries of the World” from Arthur Blake.
It was such a good read. I just love his books, they have something special in them that will capture you and you will think that you lived through it. I hope to meet him one day at least that’s what I would say if only he would not be right now around 160 years old so he’s pretty much dead now unless he can live so long.
Well anyway let’s continue with my explanation. In the world there are 6 known races, maybe I should say main races. They are Humans, Elves, Dwarfs, Beastmen, Cabals and Demons.
As I said they are just the main races. There are dozens of minor races. The difference between the two is simple, intelligence. Minor races can’t speak fluently and are just dumb, but not all of them mind you. One of the minor races are trolls. There are many variations like stone troll, ice troll and so on. I’ll give you an advice. Don’t talk with them or you will want to smash your head against a wall.
Fairies are one of the minor races too but they are smart but with no culture and want to do living hell to anyone they meet. So they are just mischievous little humanoid butterflies.
Maybe you think of me as a racist but I’m not. In fact I don’t care about what species you are. If you piss me off than I will beat you up no matter what race you are.
And as you can see I’m not really acting like a 10 year old kid. I was like this since the day I was born. I did not even cry until someone spanked me or so my mother told me. Because I was different than others of course I did not have any friends.
Maybe I should tell you about my family a little bit. We are commoners. My mother is household wife and my father is alchemist. In eyes of everyone else alchemy is useless when magic can heal you much more and much faster and everyone can use a simple healing magic but I was always proud for my father and never even once did I think about it as useless.

So naturally I asked father to teach me and so I studied for 6 years and created many recipes that magic could never do but those will remain a secret for a while.
I have a little sister too. She is 6 years old and she hates me, but oh boy she is so damn cute. She has long silky blond hair with green eyes. Porcelain white skin and puffy cheeks. So yeah, cute.
I’m not a siscon if you think of me like that. But when something is cute you will say it is cute no matter who or what it is, but as I say she hates me so I do not interact with her too much.
And so that is my family.
I live on the continent called Azar and it is mostly populated by humans but you can find elves and beastmen too. And on this continent is the well-known Colean magic academy where most nobles study and only a few smart guys can get there.
I was one of them.
In fact I did not want to go there. Being with nobles, pretend you like them and smile when you want to punch them for their arrogance and when you see that they do something wrong you can’t tell anything or else they parents will make living hell out of your life.
So how did I get there? It is because of our educational system. When you turn 10 you are eligible for a test to decide how smart you are and what your school choices are. The test is every year at the same day.
And so I passed with 116 points out of 100. It looks like I got a few extra points, but that probably does not explain much to you.
I will specify it. Average score in the continent is 68 points. Commoners normally get between 15-45 points and nobles around 60-90, but those who get close to 90 are a handful and I got 116 so you probably can get the uproar it caused and how I was called liar and cheater, how rocks were thrown on me etc.
So naturally I will be send to the best academy where I will be bullied for being a commoner and who knows what else.
Fuck it all!
Well not like I have any other choice. Sigh.
And so the day has come for me to be send to the academy. I took just essential like clothes, books and few miscellaneous things.
I went to the living room to say my goodbyes.
Everyone was already there and I just stood there. Hell I don’t know what to say, heck I don’t even feel sad. I will see them in a year or so but still, it’s my family and I treasure them greatly.

So I waited until father spoke.
“Son before you leave I want to give you something. I hope you will like it.”
Father smiled and gave me a book. When I opened it I saw it was full of alchemical formulas and experiments. Father continued.
“This is the book where I wrote all my experiments, successes and failures alike. Like my father before me it is now yours and I hope you will contribute to it.”
I was moved not to tears but moved. I smiled with a genuine smile not like always with my fake smile.
Then it was turn for my mother.
“Don’t forget to eat properly, wash yourself and study hard. You don’t need to be the best but don’t laze around and worked hard sob sob and don’t forget we all love you my little Ris. I don’t have anything profound for you but you will need it anyway.”
Mother gave me a satchel with money in it. I opened it and looked inside. There were 3 gold coins! With that family of four can live for 9 months.
“I can’t possibly take that much! I will get scholarship it won’t be much but more than enough for me.”
And so I stuffed the satchel back to mother’s hand but she did not want to take it.
“You will need this money it’s the least we can do.”
“No! It’s too much. You should just take them and use them yourselves.”
“No!”
“Yes!”
…………………………..
And so it continued for a while until I succumbed.
“Ok, I will take it but not all of it. I will take just 2 golds and no discussion!”
“Uh, fine.”
I grinned with an evil smile. I won!
Mother dejected went to sit and finally my sister’s turn came.
She just looked at me and then just turned her head to the side and said “Hum” like I was nothing to her.
I sighed and took my bag where I stuffed the stuff from my family and went to the door.
While I was walking I could hear sobs and someone running behind me.
That probably is mother. She probably wants to hug me again.
I sighed and prepared myself. My waist was hugged. I looked behind me and saw my sister hugging me with a tears in her eyes. I was stupefied. My sister that hates me is hugging me and crying? Impossible! But nonetheless I could not do anything else than believe it and so I did. With a smile I started patting her head. She looked up to see my face and she blushed. SHE BLUSHED! So CUTE.
While I was petting her I asked
“What is wrong Sylvie?”
Sylvie is my sister’s name if you are stupid enough to not get it.
“Ris, don’t go. Stay here.”
Oh, so cute.
“You know I can’t. I must go like everyone else and it’s not like we won’t see each other again.”
“But, But sob”
With red eyes she looked down and I knew she tried to stop crying which did not work. I sighed again and placed my hand on her head.
“Look I must go there. There’s really no other way. To graduate from there it takes around 10 years so I will be there for a while.”
She almost started to cry again but before that could happen I continued.
“So that leaves us with a certain option opened.”
She looked up with a hope in her eyes.
“In for 4 years you will take the test too and if you will study really hard you could be able to go to the same academy as me and so we could be there together for another 6 years that way.”
Her eyes glittered with a light in them.
She said ”Un!”
And so I smiled one last time while she let me go.
I said my last goodbye and took my first step to the future.
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Hi, my first fanfic so I did not know how to write conversations properly. This prologue was a bit hard to write because I needed to say a basic info about the world but it was not long enough as I expected so I needed to write something I did not want to and that was the farewell part so I hope I did not do too bad work. This chapter did not show anything that this story will be about and I will do windows it just did not fit into this prologue because I really just wanted basic info here.
Next chapter will be about first time in academy and maybe I will do a classes to but I don’t know. It will depend on how many words I will want my chapters to be. I think about 1500 should be ok.
