《Beyond the Veil》End of Volume 1

Whee! I managed to finish a volume. Go me!
I'm in the middle of editing the second volume. The process took a lot longer than I hoped, mostly for external reasons. It has about the same number of chapters as the first volume, but each chapter is averaging about twice the length.
I'm unfortunately not the quickest writer, at least compared to many others on this site. If I start publishing the second volume straight away at the same pace, it'll be finished long before I'm even half-way done with the third and final volume.
Here's the plan for the moment:
1. There'll be a break, as the next month is crazy busy for me. Not sure exactly how long the break will be, but I want volume 2 more or less finalized before I start publishing. I may throw in an interlude or two before volume 2, but no promises.
2. When I start the second volume, I'll publish one chapter a week instead of twice a week. Sorry to disappoint.
3. Hopefully by the time the second volume is published, I'm close to done with the third volume. We'll see.
I want to manage some expectations before we go on:
- The next volume is not a Harry Potter magic school-type arc. In fact, there'll be a significant time skip before the start of the second volume.
- The story may go in... unexpected places. I just hope no one will blame me for not taking the story in the direction they were expecting.
I'm not sure that warning is helpful or harmful. Time (and comments) will tell.
Finally, for my curiosity, I'm wondering which of the characters you like, based on what you've read so far. "Like" as in "find interesting to read about", not "want to befriend". For example, Darth Vader has a lot of fans, but I'm not sure all of them want to have him as a roommate. You may select multiple or even all of the options.
If you have thoughts, good or bad, on specific characters, feel free to share them in the comments.

Blue Hills
Nothing had ever felt quite right for Alexander Adamson. He'd worked his way up to a job he could tolerate, a few casual friends, and even a nice little apartment that he could call his own, though it really wasn't. The problem was that none of it was satisfying. It was as though he were going through the motions of a life, rather than having one of his own. Of course, it didn't exactly feel right when he woke up in a strange bed in the middle of nowhere. Nor when he was told that he was now the proud owner and operator of a local farm. A farm that had belonged to a late uncle he'd never known. But with the first train out of town a full 'season' away, he had plenty of time to get used to the idea. Plenty of time, perhaps, to even get to like the strange little town of Blue Hills. I have a discord now. Marvel at my ability to somehow still be antisocial on the other side of a screen! Back from hiatus along with my other fiction. Chapters are on a Thurs/Sun schedule until book 3 of that fiction is completed, at which point I'll be updating this daily. At which point uh.... I dunno what I'm going to do.
