《Seeking the Pinnacle》Chapter 8: Assessments

Qian Feng soon found out why the old man, Elder Yu, had chuckled so evilly when he had said that they had to visit Elder Nian. Even through the eyes of an old man, Elder Nian was drop-dead gorgeous. She had a bulging chest that, upon looking at Elder Yu, made eyes water, and an hourglass figure. Her face was delicate to the utmost, seeming as if every feature was chiseled by a master sculptor. She was beautiful to the point that she made QIan Feng's, who had experienced 104 years of life, and an extraordinary life at that and a wife who he loved whole-heartedly and still longed for today, heart flutter for a instant. But after that, of course, his heart returned to its serene state, one that had experienced death and lived through it.
"Hello, Elder Yu. Hello, Qian Feng. Why are you here today? Is it for cultivation techniques?"
Her voice was as melodious as her looks might suggest, and even more so.
"Y-yes, but I've chosen Qian Feng for the advanced course. Knowing that, I have things to do. P-please see me ou- don't see me out."
With that, Elder Yu left the room and Qian Feng was left with the radiant beauty Elder Nian.
"Well, QIan Feng, it's nice to meet you. Do you mind if I test a few things before giving you your own cultivation technique?"
Qian Feng guessed she would test his talent and his affinity. And, unfortunately, he was worried about both.
He had S-class talent, according to the karmic merit shop, but he was not sure how that would translate into Heidas. Would they also be graded into letters, or would there be a completely different system? Putting that aside, how would S-class talent be viewed? Would it be good, but not too good? That would be preferable, but what if it was a talent that hadn't appeared in centuries? What would Qian Feng do then?

And the affinities were even more worrying. Would that test discover his triple martial spirits and affinities? If it did, Qian Feng most certainly knew that would bring trouble. After all, the talent might not be that much of an issue, but Qian Feng most certainly knew that triple martial spirits would attract more attention than he wanted at the moment.
"Yes, it's fine." There was no point in dwelling on the future, after all, nothing would be changed just through predictions. Might as well begin...
Elder Nian took out a deep red stone. She seemed to have a glove made of Qi over her hand, likely to prevent the stone from measuring her... whatever it measured.
"This is to measure cultivation talent. All you need to do is hold it in your hand, and I will judge your talent by the amount of light it gives off. You don't need to know what I mean by 'talent' or 'cultivation' yet, that will come in time."
Qian Feng silently took the stone in his hand, and immediately, it glowed with an eye-piercing light. Qian Feng immediately knew that his talent was going to be the once-in-a-century type.
"S-S class talent? No, it must have malfunctioned..."
Eleder Nian took another stone and forcefully placed it in his palm with her shaking hands, only to see the light in that new stone shine, just as bright as the other one.
"M-maybe it's two in a row?"
And so, Qian Feng ended up holding five talent stones before Elder Nian sat down, exhausted and convinced. "What is this? There has never been an S-class talent in the clan. Even the founding father had A-class talent, and it was a blessing of the gods, let alone talent that was in a whole grade above A-class. What is this?"

Qian Feng smiled, and, playing the part of an innocent child, asked:
"Is it good?"
Elder Nian responded with a bone-chilling answer.
"Honey, it's good. Hey, when you grow up, don't forget your Elder Nian. I'm not that much older than you... Maybe we could marry when you mature?"
"Elder Nian, no thank you. I don't even know what marriage is, but it doesn't sound good..."
Qian Feng responded with a polite and seemingly naive rejection, only to hear this:
"Shame... Maybe when you grow up... I refuse to believe my charms can't get this kid. I'll flash him if I have to!"
Qian Feng shivered a bit, but didn't respond.
And without any more words, Elder Nian handed Qian Feng a transluscent stone, with the exact shape and texture of the red stone, only a different color(or lack thereof).
Immediately, Qian Feng felt a force flowing towards all three of his spirit realms. Knowing that if he just let it happen, Qian Feng tried to block two of the energy streams, using Qi, going towards his Earth and Life spirit realms in an attempt to conceal them. Luckily, it seemed to work, and the stone glowed with the character for "Force". The written language, like the spoken language, seemed like a variation of Chinese, with just a few angles different, but besides that, the affinity Qian Feng chose, the Force affinity, was shown clearly on the stone.
"Such a rare affinity as the Force affinity? Heavens, this boy is talented. Well, now that we have the talent and the affinity out of the way, it's time to teach a bit about cultivation, give you a proper cultivation technique, and proceed from there."
"So, let's begin. Qian Feng, take a seat. You're going to learn about cultivation and the world of Heidas. All in one sitting."

Thomas the Brawler
Thomas doesn't remember what his last name was, before it became Bluebrim, a name belonging to another universe. He's also pretty sure he wasn't this stupid before he arrived, but what can you do, when a day that was supposed to begin with an interview to set your life back on track instead begins in a universe that makes no sense, with rules you can't begin to understand? Maybe he should have paid more attention to the avatar creation screen ... Content warnings: All of them. Seriously. Expect lots of blue screens to begin with. Don't expect a power-leveling fantasy, in which the lone hero beats up all the bad guys, and gets a harem of women. There's just a guy who treats character creation like an annoying series of pop-up advertisements, and the story is basically the ramifications of that. The main character has to learn to take the world he's found himself in seriously, and he'll learn the way most of us do, by doing it wrong first. This is, insofar as it is successful, a dark comedy fantasy. Also a bit of horror, particularly but not exclusively body horror. I'm pretty sure I've earned those Content Warning tags, so, uh, yeah. This is practice. Hopefully things improve as I go, and figure out what I'm doing wrong, but I make no guarantees things will ever get better. I've already made mistakes, I'll make more, and I'm happy to notice them each time I make them. You don't improve unless you fail. (On the plus side, it probably won't get much worse.) Feel free to point out anything you think I'm doing wrong; I don't promise to change anything, particularly if it's a matter of taste, but I am looking to improve, and figuring out what I need to improve goes faster if I don't have to try to figure it out myself. I've updated the earlier chapters for formatting, in the hope that it would make everything easier to read on mobile devices. Hopefully things work slightly better now, but please let me know if there are any issues anywhere.
