Chapter 30 – A Visit
It was another day at the Orient Inn. The people inside were busy either eating or drinking. The two workers of the Inn are currently busy with serving the customers. The kitchen of the Inn was making noises of oil boiling and tools clanking one after another.
The local patrons of the Inn were enjoying their time at the Inn despite the sun still being high up in the sky. Most of them were visitors that came from outside of the city. Or people working the night in the Town of Tal’s mine. But one thing that they share in common is that they are really tired. So relaxing on the Orient Inn is one of their priorities after their tiresome duties.
Although some of them are here to stare at the waitress shaking her hips as she carries the dishes to the customers. With drooling eyes that seems to magnetize to the waitress’s fine sizes. It could be said that they are finely enjoying the food, drinks, and scenery.
Desha could feel the stare but ignored it as she focused more on her job. She carries two trays of plates with both of her hands and swiftly she delivered them to the tables. Meanwhile, Ramiel was busy refilling the glasses of the folks that came to drink. He was going back and forth to the kitchen in order to refill the glasses on the barrels that have a wooden faucet embedded on it. The barrels either contain wine or ale. Ramiel usually knows the words for the two so there was no problem identifying the two.
Although as he serves the customers, Ramiel ponders that at this rate. He is going to learn more about the words that only corresponds within the Inn. His studies have been rather slow at most. And not to mention that the pain located on his swollen throat plus the fatigue of working make it difficult for him to study the language.

Like at the moment as he carries two trays, with two four glasses in each hand. Ramiel could hear the banter happening around him. He could understand only a few specific words from their mouth. But other than that, most of what he hears is gibberish to him. Hence, it makes him irritated to the point that he rather made his face blank all the time. He could not allow himself to let the customers or Felli see his irritated face.
So without changing his expression despite the complications, he feels. Ramiel continued working on the Inn diligently while not showing any signs of being tired. He endured it all and just focused his mind on passing the day again. Thus he moved and did his job, while slightly panting.
From taking the orders, taking the glasses, refilling them and then sometimes taking the food that Desha could not bring. Ramiel spent half of his day working in the Orient Inn as usual. Along with his co-worker Desha, the two did their best until the late afternoon.
...
The Orient went silent after the local customers of the Inn went back to their work. Ramiel and Desha cleaned up the tables while Felli took care of the dishes. Desha was fast in terms of cleaning, while Ramiel just slowly arranged the tables and chairs in proper order.
He tiredly wiped the bits of crumbs and leftovers on the table. Ramiel’s eyes were half closed as he did this. His days are usually mostly this. There were no sudden events, adventurers or anything impactful. It was mostly the same boorish day that he got used to by now. His body, which was malnourished, has already regained both fat and muscle. Fat for eating the leftover food that Felli behind, while muscle for carrying things every day.

It isn’t much but it made Ramiel less horrible to look at. He is an average gray-haired Caucasian, so his appearance wasn’t that terrible compared to the time where he begged in the streets, eating raw organs.
Ramiel cleaned the tables. A yellowish light then shined upon where he was cleaning, which made Ramiel look outside of the Inn for a second to observe. There was nothing new outside. Most of what Ramiel saw was the normal folks going to their homes or to the market. He did see some people carrying swords on their waists. They didn’t look like guards so Ramiel just assumed they were mercenaries or adventurers.
He felt quite normal seeing them. There was no feeling of jealousy over them nor Ramiel ever wanted to go beyond the gates of the Town, after the encounter with the Dire wolf. Ramiel wasn’t stupid enough to think he was some sort of person that could battle some monster. He believes that he got lucky and is positive that such luck would never happen again.
So the logical conclusion he got was to stay in the town of Tal. Work on the Orient Inn and somehow make it through the days peacefully.
He rather likes the feeling of being alive. And even if there is someone willing to pay him. He wouldn’t still accept going outside of the town. He cherished his life and he isn’t that suicidal enough to take his chances.
But even so, Ramiel would think what it would be like to be someone who goes out there to adventure. But then he realized that unless he got some sudden blessing from the Gods above then such adventurers wouldn’t happen.
It’s not like I could have something as lucky as that. He thought. It was enough of a lesson for him when he spent a month begging in the streets. Eating raw organs and trying to stay sane while shivering during the cold fall nights. It disillusioned him of any grandeur thoughts.
That reminds me. I really didn’t get to say that I am not fetching for that lady.
And as that thought popped into Ramiel’s head, the door of the open slowly opened. Ramiel turned towards the door and saw the servant of the Lady, Gundry appearing. Desha spoke something towards Gundry but he explained that he needs to see Ramiel. And Ramiel also concluded that Gundry is looking for him, simply, because he was pointing his finger at Ramiel.
I wonder what he wants.
Ramiel thought as he left the table he was cleaning and approached Gundry.

Of Men and Dragons, Book 1
Book 1 is now available on Kindle, or in paperback/hardcover! You can buy it here! Jack crash-landed on a planet where the natives are seven-foot-tall carnivorous cat-lizards currently somewhere between stone and bronze age. The good news is the natives think the ship that crashed into their mountain is a dragon and are steering clear of it. The bad news is they just left one of their own as a sacrifice to appease the beast. No matter what Jack and his AI co-pilot decide, his life just got a lot more complicated... ATTENTION: This is soft sci-fi rather than hard sci-fi, hence why I chose that tag. For those of you unfamiliar with the distinction, here's what Wikipedia had to say. 1. It explores the "soft" sciences, and especially the social sciences (for example, anthropology, sociology, or psychology), rather than engineering or the "hard" sciences (for example, physics, astronomy, or chemistry). 2. It is not scientifically accurate or plausible; the opposite of hard science fiction. Soft science fiction of either type is often more concerned with character and speculative societies, rather than speculative science or engineering. The term first appeared in the late 1970s and is attributed to Australian literary scholar Peter Nicholls.
