Chapter 159 – Journal Entry 9: Grom the Beast of Fernery Island
I took cover within one of the passages. The cultists have blockaded themselves with thick barrier magic that every shot seems pointless. The beasts that are attacking mainly focus on the elvens and Grom. They were handling far better, but Grom became the one that the beasts target so often.
Grom was quite tough. He could handle being thrown around and smashed by the beasts quite well. He was fighting bare handed at these beasts yet he was fighting on mindlessly. I am merely shooting my doubled barreled firearm at the beasts, and if it wasn’t for the protective aura that wraps the beast then this would have been over.
The elvens were keeping the beast at bay while Grom takes the pummeling. At the moment I could see him, rushing at the best, the beast swiped at him, he dodged fairly well and then used his shoulder to push the beast back. The beast he was fighting stumbled, but before he can somehow attack it again. The other beast that was near him kicked Grom away. His body bent, and I could hear the loud crack of his bones within my position.
He got planted on the wall. He was bleeding all over him, blood dripping on every crease of his metal body. The elvens helped him, however, but the beasts would retreat in command of their masters. The cultists are adamant in trying to kill us. Maybe they do not know, but they would undoubtedly be done if this continues.
I am not that dumb enough to realize Miss Leona’s plan. And even though I find it personally distasteful, I could only watch as Grom gets used by the elvens as a shield to protect them. Grom seems like he wasn’t backing down, even though I saw him being planted on the wall, and heard his bones crack loudly. Grom, who was like a beast, struggled to stand up as if forcing himself to live.

The Elvens who sees him frowns, and even they could find their plan distasteful. And even though one of them is chanting faster, making circles embedded with energy on the floor, the beast and the cultists that control them saw this and looked like they have finally gotten an idea of what they are trying to do.
My heart pumped faster, my eyes tunneled and I could feel my body moving on my own as I rush on one of the beasts. I have no idea what I am doing, but with Grom down, and the elvens busy on their magic I could only do this. I rushed on one of the beasts. I dodged its initial swipe, rolled forward, before strafing left, only to jump at one of the beasts. The beast would try to grab me, and slam me to the ground but seeing Grom fight a while ago made me take note about that, and I was able to turn around the beast’s back, pointed the barrel of the shotgun and blasted the skin of the beast. I could see the insides of the beast’s head. Not wasting time, I grab a dynamite from my pockets, lit it with the lighter before leaping down, sprinting away from the beast.
Boom!
The beast exploded, its inners spreading everywhere. The beast can regenerate over a point blank shot of a doubled barreled shotgun, so I thought that maybe it won’t be able to do so when it’s upper body explodes. I was right, and the beast indeed never regenerated from being dead.
Ah, but when I thought I have done something well, the other four remaining beasts suddenly step aside. Looking at the distance, I saw a magic circle floating, directed towards the Elvens. I have no means to defend them so I could only step aside, and watch them die at that eerie beam.

However, Grom who was struggling on the corner suddenly stood up. Dark energy surrounded his body, his eyes flashed red, he bellowed as his bent body readjusted forcefully. His growl as his body regenerates was rather haunting, his bones made a crackling sound, as the metal on his body tightened with a loud clang.
Grom suddenly moved in front of the elvens shielding them with his back. The eerie beam landed on Grom’s back, but I could see a transparent red barrier in a form of a thick shield forming around his back. I could see that Grom was covered in protection aura, but the eerie light beam that the cultist casted was far too strong, that it managed to destroy the skull helmet that was tightly attached to his head.
I could not see what he looked like under the helmet but Leona and her elven could see his face clearly, I am sure of it. But even so, the metal skin Grom have was quite terrifying, it regenerated back his helmet, which was like the metal digging out his face, forming a metal helmet that fits well on his face.
The Eerie light beam got stopped, and when it was done, Grom was spilling blood all over again everywhere, making his black appearance colored red instead. Grom turned around while the Elvens was quite in shock, he grabbed the hand cannon on his back, offered his left hand, as he creates a rock on his palm. Putting the rock inside the barrel of his cannon, he pointed the hand cannon to the cultist, and as dark red light shines on runes of the hand cannon, the firearm on Grom’s back produced a loud bang, as the rock directly hurls on the cultist that shot the eerie beam of light.
The cultist panicked at the sight of one of them dead, and they immediately ordered one of their beasts to attack only for Grom to casually dodge the beast’s initial strike, and using his left hand, produced a shockwave that was like an explosion itself. The beast kneeled on the ground, and before it could stand up. A black thin long blade appeared out his right wrist, which he then used to decapitate the beast. Another beast rushed to Grom, he jumped out of the way, clings to the beast’s head and produced volts of electricity from both of his hands, shocking and killing the beast down.
Grom then turned over to the other beast, but before he can begin seven arrows hit the other beasts, and in the back of the cultist were the elven subordinates of Leona. It took them barely a minute to subdue the cultists, and with the fight done and over. I could breathe out a sigh of relief. Turning my eyes back to Grom, I saw him kneel on the ground vomiting blood.
He should be fine if he can still produce sparks like that.

The Ascendant: Endless Reincarnation
My name is Richard Brooks. I died while saving a kid. Kicking the bucket at 28 was really depressing, you know? There’s so much I still wanted to do. But instead of passing on, I was thrust into an endless series of reincarnations. Whenever I die, I earn Karma points based on my achievements and growth. These points can be exchanged for weapons, spells, or other bonuses to make my next lives more interesting. “What kills me only makes me stronger!” Or something like that. Honestly, it feels like I’m stuck in an RPG. The difficulty setting can be pretty ridiculous too. Sometimes all I can do is grit my teeth in frustration as I die an ignoble death. But I won’t complain. Even when it’s dangerous and painful, I love life. This is all an opportunity; I’ll do my best, no matter what kind of sadistic fate the System throws at me. I will swing the warhammer of justice! Craft and enhance the most amazing artifacts! Overwhelm opponents with a barrage of auto-casting spells! Lead powerful vassals in Domain wars! All for the sake of creating an eternal sanctuary. With my unique power of Runecrafting, maybe I’ll even become strong enough one day to overturn fate… or at least find out what the hell is really going on. It might take a few hundred or a thousand lifetimes, but what’s the rush? I have all the time in the world now. (Note: R15+ This is the work of a very inexperienced author with a full time job. Please expect an erratic release schedule.)
