《The Chronicles of the Beast Master》Chapter 2

When I woke up, I was in a familiar place. I am inside another transparent shield. The first thing I did was look around and it was to my surprise that another bear was there sleeping near me. The bear looked the same as the first one except for its lighter color.

After the message, the shield started to fade. The bear that was sleeping near me noticed and woke up. I had 2 options, one is to kill the bear and two is to run away. I desperately ran before and got the purple fruit, but I don’t know if it will be the same with this one. If I ran away, I won’t be able to observe its movements and might get hit in the back as I run. Killing it wouldn’t be so easy as I was just lucky that I saw a purple fruit before I ran out of steam on my first battle. Even though it’s potent as a killing agent, it’s quite rare to see that purple fruit around here.
The split second hesitation was a mistake. The bear’s arm was already in a position where I only have 2 options left. One is to block and endure, or deflect and retaliate. Both options were a no go since our physical strength we too far away. I let my instincts carry me and tried to deflect the bear’s attack. As I expected it pushed me back, but I felt that there was less damage to me than I was expecting.
Recieved 18 damage
I blocked with 2 arms and grabbed the bear’s finger. I pushed my finger to a pressure point and pulled the bear on reflex. The surprising thing was, it looked like the bear felt pain from my movements and followed on its own as I pulled its body.
“Is this bear weaker than the one before?”(Sania)
Seeing this as an opportunity. I lifted my body by using the bear’s arm as a platform and kicked the bear on the eye. It moved its head sideways, but I already expected that. My legs followed the bear’s head and successfully hit its eye. I jumped away and observed if my attack worked.
The bear screamed in pain as it covered its eyes which was bleeding a lot. I picked up a few rocks, and ran to the bear. It started to be wary of me, and moved back.
“If you didn’t try to attack me then I wouldn’t have to kill you. I could have left you alone, but there is a 90% chance that another will attack me, so I’ll use you to train myself.”(Sania)
I am not really such a bad person, but being naive in the middle of a forest filled with dangerous creatures such as this one will only lead to my death. The fact that the one I’ll kill is not a human also made the decision easier to make.
It swung its left arm to push me back and covered its eye with the right arm. I always moved to his right and hit the armpit or a pressure point on the bottom of its right arm. I don’t really know if the pressure point of the bear is the same as a human, but this is the only thing I can do for now.
Whenever it move its right arm, I will throw a rock to the bleeding eye of the bear. With this, I easily gained the upper hand. Don’t be mistaken, the bear has at least double of my physical strength, but if it can’t hit me then it doesn’t matter. Compared to before, it looks like my attacks are doing damage to a peiyon usrsus. As the fight continued, the bear got sluggish. I was also tired, but I think I have at least 25%-30% of my stamina left.

I was tired, but my body wasn’t damage that much, so I could still move swiftly. A chance presented itself, and I was able to take the bear’s remaining eye. Tired from the long battle, and losing both of its eyes, it could do nothing but wait for its death.

This interface is quite handy. If a message like this appears then it is 100% sure that the enemy is already killed, or at least that is what I believe. I didn’t really have a time to check the stats earlier since I lost consciousness, so I’ll check it now.

Hmmm looks like there is nothing new here, it’s expected I guess.
After checking the screen, I looked around. There are a few animals peeking, but it doesn’t look like they plan on attacking me. The long battle made me hungry, so I walked around and took edible fruits. I don’t want to eat raw meat, so I’ll stick with fruits for now.
I really hate living in the forest. I don’t have any appliances to help me, I feel like there are a lot of eyes watching me, and worse of all...there was no washroom.
I walked around with nothing in mind, and the sun started to set. I don’t know where to stay at, but I at least want some clothes before the day ends. As I walked I could hear the sound of running water.
“River!”(Sania)
The sole thought of a river made me happy since I’ll be able to wash my body and even drink fresh water. I went to where the sound came from and when I got there, a beautiful clear river reflected on to my eyes. As I walked closer, I could see fishes moving on the river, I could even see the bottom which indicates how clean the water was. The fishes looked different which is normal since this is a different world.
I took a dip on the river, and enjoyed the cold running water. I washed my body and saw the reflection of my new body on the water. I had a silky white hair and pale white skin...I already know that part. The thing that surprised me was my glowing orange eyes, which both showed elegance and strength.
After cleaning my body, I drank some of the running water. The beauty of a river is that even if you clean your body here, the dirt will be pushed away with the running water, making the next surge of water clean.
After taking a bath, I went back to the forest and gathered leaves and branches. Using what I have gathered, I created a small tent. Slowly but surely I have created a temporary home near the river. Good thing I took a bit of survival lessons, it didn’t tell me to kill animals and walk around naked though.
Since I didn’t know any of the trees around, I didn ‘t know how to create a camp fire. It’s futile to create something that I couldn’t, so I just sticked with fruits...I really wanted to try cooking a fish on the fire though. As the the sun was replace by the moon, all light around me vanished. No matter where I look, I couldn’t see anything but silhouette of the trees.

“...camping alone is quite scary.”(Sania)
After eating, I took quick bath before going to the tent. I laid down the bed created from leaves and closed my eyes. I could hear different sounds so I was alert the whole time and couldn’t sleep, but the thing that irritated me the most were the insects. The small insects inside the tent were annoying me to death. I learned a crucial lesson, camping is hell for those that hate bugs. In the end, I fell asleep from stress.
When I woke up the first thing I did was find food. I picked some fruits, and looked around for a bit. After observing the vicinity I went back to the tent and ate.
I wonder where I am? It would really be the good time for a map screen to show up. The best thing to do is get out of the forest and go to a place with people...wait, I can’t go out naked. I need to find clothes first, but where? Should I try creating clothes from the materials in the forest? I could try and use the skin of an animal, but that feels a bit...brutal, so I’ll refrain from doing that.
With that, I made up my mind, and started walking in the forest to find materials...of course I took a bath before going out.
I walked around and started gathering leaves. There were 4 different trees I have encountered so far. First was the most common, a 6-8ft tree with blue colored leaves. Forella which is the only thing I eat right now, came from the blue trees. The second was an oddly shaped tree that is 6-12 ft tall. It was spiky and had orange leaves. The third is the tall tree that I used before. It was 12-20 ft tall and had green colored leaves, if you think about it, this is the closest to our world’s tree. The last and the rarest tree are the ones that create the poisonous fruits. It had different colored leaves and it’s size usually vary from 4ft-20ft.
I took some vines and leaves that I needed, and headed back to the tent. Actually, I could have done this earlier, but it’s not like I’m perfect. Anyways, I used the vines as the foundation of the clothes and sticked the leaves around it. I tested different saps yesterday and have found something that helps the leaves stick to the vine. After creating the clothes, I tried them on and a message popped out.
Magic tree dress(low) equipped
+1 defense
+5 magic defense
“Eh?”(Sania)
Even wearing something makes a message pop out?
I was a bit curious on the effect, but the first thing I have to do is test the dress. It was a one piece dress that covered my shoulders down to my knee, and was made using blue and orange leaves. I tried moving around and did a few attacking motion. It seems that the clothes could endure my movements, my first creation was a success.
I also wanted to create shoes, but I didn’t have anything to make it. I could use some wood, but I didn’t have anything to carve it. In the end, I created 2 pieces of dress and a small bag. I have a bit of confidence about the quality of my creations since I have done things like this before. I always liked creating clothes for my children and grandchildren when they were young, so I have a bit of experience.
By the time I finished it was already noon. I spent the rest of the day relaxing near the river.
On the next day, it was time to say goodbye to my first home in this world. After checking my things, I started running inside the forest.
___
Just like before, animals kept coming after me. I ignored most of them, but I had to kill some as there were times I got surrounded. They weren’t as strong as the bear, so it wasn’t hard to defeat them. It’s still morning and I am just running without any direction in mind. As I ran, I saw things like different plants and even different animals. I really want more information about this world, I would like to go to a library if I find one.
“Nuuu”(???)
As I ran, a small pup showed up. It was too weak so I decided to ignore it, but before I could change my route, I saw another animal. It was the normal hound that I always see around the forest and it looked like it was running after the pup.
The hound was 2ft tall. It had brown colored fur, and a spiky tail. The pup on the other hand, had a blue fur. It had a short red horn in the middle of its head and looked like it was few months old. The pup was quite cute, or do I just have a soft side on young creatures? I watched as the pup ran to my direction and hid behind me.
The hound that was running after the pup stopped after seeing me. It looked like it will jump at any second, so I took the pup and started running. The pup surprisingly looked happy as I carried it on my arms. It was wriggling around, and was rubbing its head on my chest. Seeing that made me utter one word.
“Cute”(Sania)
As I ran, I could feel the hound running after us. Since I was faster, it didn’t matter. I aimlessly ran in the forest, and for some reason, more and more animals were running after me. By the time I noticed it, I was surrounded by 20 hounds.
“This looks bad.”(Sania)
The pup was already sleeping comfortable on my hands when I looked at it. Without wasting time, the hounds started jumping at me. I was able to evade most, but since both of my arms were occupied, some attacks were able to hit me.

I was able to get away after a bit of chaos, I was slightly injured though. There were still 18 hounds left, but only 9 were actively running after me. I ran and ran, only to be blocked by another hound. As I got closer, I noticed that the hound blocking my path was different. Its body was filled with scars, and it’s a lot bulkier than the other hounds. The thing that made it a lot more intimidating was its 6ft height.
“ROAAAAAR”(Feral Hound)
It jumped at me at speeds exceeding the peiyon ursus. I was able to dodge it, but it leaped again after touching the ground and scratched my arms.
Recieved 9 damage from feral hound(Alpha)
The hound continued its attacks as the other hounds caught up, and after a while, I was surrounded again. With the big feral hound, I couldn’t get away. I was forced to fight and kill the other feral hounds. In the end, only I and the feral hound(alpha) were left. I was severely injured from fighting while protecting the pup, while the hound was barely even damaged. By the way, my level was raised by 2 after killing the other 9 hounds.
I fought with the hound but I was at a disadvantage. It was obvious that I would lose, so I threw the pup that was asleep. After throwing the pup, I tried to run to a different direction to try and pull the hound away from the pup, but was stopped when the hound bit my leg.
Recieved 21 damage from feral hound(alpha)
“Tsk”(Sania)
I tried kicking the hound away, but my strength was no longer enough to even damage it. At this point, I am sure I won’t win. The shield will probably protect me this time, but what would happen to the pup after this? With the last bit of my strength, I ran to the pup to try and cover it with my body, but the hound was behind me and I was in the range of its attacks. Just before the hound could bite me again, a blue thunder hit it.
The pup that was sleeping up until now suddenly discharged thunder to the enemy. The pup looked at me for a bit before its expression turned in to pure rage.
“Nuuu”(Pup)
The pup moved its small paws to run after the enemy.
“DON’T!”(Sania)
Right before my eyes, the pup turned in to a ball of lightning and floated up to the air.
“NUUU!”(Pup)
The pup repeatedly released lightning attacks on the hound, burning it alive.

The ball of lightning turned back to a pup before losing consciousness and falling from the sky. I caught the pup and sat near a tree to rest. I couldn’t feel one of my legs, and my left arm was in pain due to being dislocated. My body was filled with wounds, and I was starting to get dizzy from blood loss.
Why did I even protect this little one?
I looked at the pup that was resting peacefully at my lap. I watched as the pup rolled around my lap before losing consciousness.
___
When I woke up, there were a few fruits gathered in front of me. There were small bite marks which indicated that the pup gathered the fruit for me while I was sleeping. The pup was sitting on my lap and after seeing me open my eyes, it jumped to my shoulder. It started rubbing its cheek to mine as its tail flailed around.

Fallout: Vault X
An original novel set in the Fallout universe, written to be accessible to all, featuring unique people and places. Vol.II. out now Fallout: Vault X tells the story of John. A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes

How to Raise Your Dungeon
A dungeon core awakens for the first time. It knows nothing, it has nothing, but it can hear something. Voices, whispering, talking, and sharing. For now, they are distant. But it believes, if it proves itself, they may provide it with wisdom and direction. And so its slow but steady growth begins. Polls will come when the dungeon specifically wants to choose between a number of options, and believes it will receive an answer. However, it will "hear" any comments made on the most recent chapter, and these will shape its behaviour. It trusts you implicitely. This story is an exercise in stretching my creative muscles, so with each decision made, the options and opportunities open to the dungeon will change- some closing off forever. The dungeon will face threats periodically, and its fate in these encounters will be heavily influenced by your advice, though it will of course do its absolute best even without advice. It hardly wants to die. Heavily inspired by There Is No Epic Loot Here, Only Puns, though my approach to the concept is somewhat different from that work.

Penance's Pursuit
This future sci-fi fantasy follows the progression of a few main characters as they navigate their unique spheres of life in the year 2242. The story focuses heavily on themes of guilt, personal failing, and penance. The conflict revolves around two main concepts: Man vs. Himself (Internal conflict) and Man vs Man (External conflict). The internal conflicts focus on many of the characters' inner demons and how each of them deal with the scars of the past. The external conflict centers around a mysterious criminal organization called Nexus that conducts human trafficking. There are three groups of main characters. The first group belong to a vigilante mercenary organization called Ab Aeterno. Titus, Venna, and Benjamin are Achilles team. This team is a part of Ab Aeterno's special forces branch which is designated Demon Stalkers. Their goal and mission is to perform assassinations, abductions, and destabilization operations on criminal organizations throughout the solar system. Their current mission places them directly in the path of Nexus. Titus interacted with them in his past and they seem to have unlimited reach, resources, and power. As the team faces this threat, old wounds will surface and dangerous connections to the past will emerge. The second group of characters are on the Mars colony. Randal Page is an analyst for a talent scout company on Mars. He is faced with the reality that the company he thought he was working for is in fact Nexus. His story centers around his coming to realize the duplicity of the company he works for and then his response to the startling realization of his own ignorant involvement. Also on Mars is a woman named FaRarra Njokko. She is a Nexus sex slave in a brothel on Mars and is known by the stage name of Stardust. She is striving to escape when her path crosses with Randal. The final main character is Preston Coretel. He is a monk with a mysterious and shady past. He is on the run from Nexus in more ways than one. He is seeking sanctuary on an abandoned monastery space station in order to avoid agents of Nexus and to atone for his previous involvement with Nexus.
