《Song of the Phoenix》Chapter 46

Maybe Fenglong saw through her hesitation or maybe he was honestly expressing his opinion, but his next sentence made Baihe flare up with illogical anger. “You’re too stinky. Even if you could stomach the stench, Benwang couldn’t.”
“If you don’t talk, no one will think you’re mute!” Baihe scowled as she stormed away with a frown, heading toward the edge of the water fountain by the wall. Hearing such impolite words from the evildoer, her hesitation immediately dissipated and Baihe was not at all courteous with his expensive gifts.
Who was it just moments ago plastered to her body? Who was it sucking her lips like a starved man? And now he had the galls to call her stinky? This darn asshole!
Despite how badly she looked right now, Baihe knew exactly what kind of effect she had on Fenglong a while ago. Call her petty, but she began to slowly undress, almost like a strip tease. It was best if this bipolar man suffered testicular pain without relief.
Who knew Fenglong would abruptly turn away? This time, an enchanting laugh spilled from her vermilion red lips, causing the man to turn back around. All he saw was a mesmerizing beauty whose face was smeared with soot and sporting an inflated hair in her half undressed state.
Her long eyelashes brushed over a pair of clear monochrome eyes with mirth and her lips were hooked up in a teasing smirk. Fenglong knew he should at least feel a bit angry because the woman was laughing at his expense, but instead, all he could feel was how dry his throat had suddenly become.
Seductive. That was the only word Fenglong needed to describe Baihe at this moment, but the next second, he feared something was wrong with his perception of aesthetics. With the way how Baihe looked right now, she was nothing short from a dirty vagrant and a far cry from those noble ladies.

Yet, in his eyes, she was beautiful. Fenglong finally understood what beauty is in the eyes of the beholder meant.
Once again, Fenglong averted his gaze, gracing Baihe with his strong and muscular back. Baihe did not expect this shameless man to actually feel bashful and shy to the point of turning away from a free show. How innocent!
Unfortunately, Baihe’s speculation was too far off the chart. The reason why Fenglong averted his gaze and turned away was not because he was innocent or shy, but because he feared he would devour Baihe right then and there. He did not expect the woman to be so bold as to casually undress before another man.
Fenglong could feel his control slipping away and his hands were turning numb from being clutched too tightly that veins were popping out.
Deciding she had enough fun for now, Baihe quickly removed her dirty robe and dipped into the refreshing water fountain. It was not actually proper nor ideal to bathe oneself in a water fountain, but she had no choice and can only make do with limited options.
While cleaning herself, Baihe was in an exceptionally good mood, especially when she recalled Fenglong’s earlier expression. As such, Baihe couldn’t help herself from laughing and giggling foolishly as she splashed about in the water. Only when she realized what she was doing, did Baihe finally stop.
Her willow brows creased and her dark eyes turned pensive; Baihe was troubled. She did not know when she’d such a childish side to her nor did she expect to one day be able to laugh so carefreely like a kid. Remembering her earlier behavior, did that count as her throwing a tantrum?
Confused, Baihe looked toward Fenglong, but all she saw was his rigid tall back. A complicated look flitted across her dark eyes before Baihe quietly returned to the mundane task of washing her hair and cleaning the dirt off her body inside a fountain of rose petals.

Surprisingly, the products Fenglong gave her was actually capable of taming the frizzy black hair back to its original state — long, silky, and straight. Drying off her body, Baihe slipped into the new robe and shoes; the royal blue dress was formfitting and comfortable, molding to her body perfectly without being restrictive.
Baihe was very satisfied with her new attire, but an absurd thought crossed her mind. Did the bipolar man specifically prepare this for her before their journey? With such thought, an involuntary blush crept up her neck and spread to her face, turning her cheeks rosy.
When Fenglong no longer hear the splashes of water, he turned around and was greeted with a bewitching sight. Long wet hair draped over Baihe’s delicate frame; thick lashes framed a pair of autumn limpid eyes; flawless skin, smooth and milky; and a peerless face adorned with rosy cheeks and lightly parted red lips.
Suddenly, Fenglong found it hard to breathe. Her clothes accentuated her slim figure and assets in all the right places. Enchanting and noble at the same time. For a long period, no one spoke. Perhaps his gaze was too intense, as if he were eating her alive with his eyes that Baihe finally took the initiative to break the silence.
“D-did you specifically prepare these for me?” Baihe asked. Her usually cold voice was a bit uneven with a hint of sweetness that was hard to detect unless one paid close attention.
Fenglong remained silent; he felt as if speaking was an immense effort. Only when Baihe began to squirm under his hot gaze, did Fenglong release a few words in a hoarse voice.
“We should get moving,” Fenglong grunted.
Baihe pursed her lips. Since the man refused to answer, there was nothing she could do. Thinking he was shy again from being confronted, Baihe acquiesced and followed Fenglong into the teleportation array while also finding this side of him sort of cute. A trickle of warmth settled over her heart.
Unfortunately, Baihe’s thoughts were once again not aligned with his. Fenglong didn’t answer her question not because he was shy, but because at that moment, he had lost the ability to speak and her question had went in one ear and out the other.
The interspatial ring was a family heirloom from Fenglong’s deceased father and the feminine objects stored inside was because of his departed mother; both parents had died due to an insidious plot — his father killed before he was born and his mother murdered shortly after giving birth to him.
Perhaps, his mother knew she was going to die soon and had started making early preparations. During the time she was carrying him in her womb, his mother spent her days personally embroidering multiple sets of robes, shoes and undergarments as well as collecting various miscellaneous items to be given as betrothal gifts to her future daughter in-law; the one she would never live to see.
In the end, a heap of goods ranging from precious treasures to everyday objects were stored inside the interspatial ring for his future wife by his deceased mother. The only thing left for Fenglong was the interspatial ring attached with a letter inside; the paper he had read many times over until the edges were curled and the sheet had turned yellow.
The same paper that had forced Fenglong to mature quickly at a young age in order to survive within the scheming imperial family. In black and white, the truth behind their death was laid bared.

Rogue Dungeon: A LitRPG Adventure
From James A. Hunter, author of Viridian Gate Online and War God's Mantle! Check out my first attempt at a Dungeon litRPG Novel! Roark von Graf—hedge mage and lesser noble of Traisbin—is one of only a handful of Freedom fighters left, and he knows the Resistance’s days are numbered. Unless they do something drastic … But when a daring plan to unseat the Tyrant King goes awry, Roark finds himself on the run through an interdimensional portal, which strands him in a very unexpected location: an ultra-immersive, fantasy video game called Hearthworld. He can’t log out, his magic is on the fritz, and worst of all, he’s not even human. Now, he’s a low-class, run-of-the-mil Dungeon monster. Some disgusting, blue-skinned creature called a Troll. At least there’s one small silver lining—Roark managed the grab a powerful magic artifact on his way through the portal, and with it he might just be able to save the world after all. Unless, of course, the Tyrant King gets to him first …Hey everyone, so as most of you know, I write books for a living, and I just put this title up on Amazon (and enrolled it in KU). Because KU requires exclusivity as part of their terms of service, I have had to pull the majority of the content from this site. I left the full novel up for as long as possible, so I hope everyone got a chance to read it. If you haven't had a chance to read it in its entirety (sorry!) you can pick it up on Amazon. Thanks again for coming on this journey with me, and I so hope you enjoyed it. The book will be out on Tuesday July 24th. Best, James Hunter
