The Great Escape

Poe entered the final dimension that held the final candidate for the Invigilator. He was surprised to find that he had arrived only to discover that the world had already been destroyed. This meant that the Invigilator had gotten his little soldier for his war against life. He drifted through the debris, occasionally reaching out a boney hand to grab a hand-sized chunk of the former Earth as it drifted by. He was very disappointed in himself. He had thought that this version of Declan Mason was the least likely to have been chosen. He wasn’t nearly as impressive as his counterparts, but there was something that he’d missed when he had evaluated them. There was something that the damned goliath had noticed that Poe hadn’t about that version of Mason.

No point in worrying over spilled blood. He could still try to convert the man, or, failing that he could simply kill him. It really didn’t matter either way. He hoped that Mason would join him, as it would expedite things and would be a boon if they could the Invigilator together. He stopped his hover bike and began gathering energy. It would take him some time, but he would be able to reconstruct a photonic replica of everything that Mason did. This would allow him to observe the last few hours of Mason’s life prior to being grabbed by the interloping alien. He did this for no other reason that he would be able to make some determination about Mason’s skills and abilities without ever putting himself in any kind of danger. More importantly, he might be able to find some weakness, some chink in the man’s armor that would open opt options that Poe currently did not have available to him at the moment.
