《Eating Fast Is My "Overpowered" Ability》Game Start (Chapter 2)

As promised, the Ai logged her out. Mei huffed as she felt regained control of her real body. She braced herself for her head to hurt at any second, but there was no pain. That was a pleasant surprise. Perhaps the helmet took the blunt of the fall?
But more importantly, the Ai had a terrible attitude! She wondered if there was a setting to change the Ai assistant's personality. Well, only one way to find out. She hopped off her bed and walked to her table, grabbing her laptop.
Guugle Search: how to change limitless ai personality
Instantly, results flooded the screen. Forums were filled the united inquiries of thousands of people all asking variants of the same question: 'why is the ai such a piece of trash?'. Heh. Mei smiled. She wondered what the Ai would think if it knew of this. Wait, did it even have the capability to feel insulted? She wasn't sure.
She clicked on the top result which was from the official forum of Limitless.

There have been a few complaints about that but for some reason, the creators of the game refuse to change the Ai or create any alternative Ais.

Well, that was a lot of drama for nothing. Mei couldn't help but be a little disappointed. With nothing better to do, she decided to log back on to the VR.

"Back so quickly?" asked the Ai.
"Yeah, can I start now?" asked Mei.
"Sure." it answered.
Immediately, Mei's vision faded to pure darkness. Seconds later, she felt the vague sensation of falling through the air before she landed on solid ground once again.
Welcome to Limitless!
Your bonus trait is:
Eating Fast!
Would you like to go through the tutorial?
Yes No
Mei was shocked. Such an odd trait? She had already heard of an odd system the game did when one chose a new character: the character would have a random trait based on unknown factors. Oh well. From what she read, most of the traits were pretty useless anyway.
Sighing, Mei hit 'No'. The panel disappeared, allowing her to focus on what was around her. Trees, bushes, grasses and other plants dotted the area. She could hear birdsong from a distance. The sun was starting to set like it was in real life right now. She had spawned in a forest. The next thing that she noticed was that she was only wearing rags. They were uncomfortable and scratchy like potato sacks. And as she was not given shoes, she could feel the slimy mud engulf her feet.
"Ewww..." she muttered.
This was very unpleasant. It just so happened that when she spawned, it had rained a few hours ago. Mei was filled with the desire to immediately get out of the forest and into a town as quickly as possible.
"Map!" she shouted. From watching streamers, she knew most of the commands.
A map popped up before Mei, showing the overhead view of a town surrounded by forest. There was a red arrow on the map, indicating where she was facing. It happened to be pointing towards the town. There, straight ahead! She began to run forward as fast as she could. As soon as she reached the town, she was definitely going to buy some proper shoes.

The distance between the town and the red arrow quickly shortened. The mud of mud caked on her feet only increased, however.
'Yes! I'm almost there!' thought Mei in excitement.
She could see the walls and the gate of the town. Much like a marathon runner nearing the finish line, she began to speed up. More and more mud began to coat her legs but she couldn't care less at that point.
Then she slipped, a common consequence of running too quickly.
"Ahhh!"
Splat!
Mud from the grass was now stuck all over her rags. Mei felt miserable. She had come here to play an exciting game, not engage in 'Outdoor Simulator'! She almost felt regret playing the game. She wiped off as much mud as she could and walked to the gate.
The gate opened automatically with a rumble as she approached. The miserable girl walked in, panting, wondering where she could find a bathhouse to wash away her woes. She summoned the map once again. Now, that she was in the town, the map was now zoomed in closer and showed the names of the nearby buildings.
To her surprise, there was a public shower that wasn't that far away. Which she appreciated a lot since there were passersby giving her a wide berth out of disgust.
"Hot soup noodles for sale! Cheap and tasty!" the voice of an old man sounded out from a noodle stall as she walked past it.
It was at this moment when she realised how hungry she was. As it turned out, players were spawned on an empty stomach. Timidly, she walked toward the store. Perhaps because it was not during meal hours, the store didn't have anyone queuing.
"Can I buy some?" asked Mei. She was a bit worried the old man would chase her away due to her current appearance.
"Ah!" the old man looked shocked. "What happened to you?"
"Uh..." Mei wasn't sure how to explain her current condition. She couldn't just say that his world was just a game and that she just started playing, could she?
"Don't worry!" the old man thought she found the topic uncomfortable to talk about. He looked at her with eyes full of pity. The poor muddy girl must be an orphan beggar, penniless and starving to the point of having to look for food in the forest! To have such a flat belly, she must have barely anything to eat...
The old man took out a piping hot bowl of noodles and passed it to her.
"It's okay! If you get hungry again, this old man here has noodles for you!" he said.
Breathing in the delicious smell of the noodles as she held the bowl, Mei couldn't help but ask.
"How much do I pay?"
"Oh! You don't need to pay! Don't worry, I won't charge even a single gold!" the old man assumed she was worried since she didn't have any money.
"Huh? But-"
"Just eat! I'm treating you!"
So the confused girl was ushered by the old man to a nearby table where she wolfed the noodles at incredible speed. The noodle man felt warm at heart as he watched her devour the noodles. To eat so fast, she must have been starving for days...

Now sold into slavery, the young man must find not only a reason to survive but a purpose to carry him home. The journey has just begun, and the hardest step is always the first one. ~ This is my attempt at both the Xianxia/Wuxia and Portal/Isekai genre of fiction that I love, and the means to provide a story set in such guidelines, while distancing myself from some of the more common tropes. I do hope you enjoy the story I shall endeavor to tell. ~ Average post between 1000 - 3000 words. This is a work in progress, and will be edited and adjusted over time. If you’re interested in something a bit more GameLIT, you might want to check out my second story on Royal Road, “The Dawnfire Archives”. My newest story is a combination of both genres, but with a female main character at the helm. Feel free to check out "The Card Thief of Culnivar"!
