《I Became A Vampire In Another World》Chapter 39

Rena woke up feeling a strange sensation of warmth and softness around her body. For the last 5 years, she was kicked awake before dawn to start the day. Today it was sunlight and hunger. She stretched out with a giant yawn before shooting up out of bed trying to catch her bearings. She looked down her clothes where gone replaced by an oversized tee shirt. Then the memories flooded her brain of yesterday's events. Yuuta freeing her, walking around the city buying clothes, and meeting Their friends up until she Stuffed herself with food before falling asleep at the inn. She started hyperventilating having a semi-panic attack. She ran through her memories trying to remember how she got here.
(The last thing I remember was Yuuta carrying me then I don't know.) her cheeks went a little pink at the thought of being carried by the man who freed her. As the second wave of anxiety hit her she heard Ria laughing downstairs followed by yelling. Then the smell of breakfast hit her nose.
She carefully tiptoed towards the door opening it slowly. The door across from he was open and she took a peak inside. The room was a mess covers and clothes were strewn across the room with a weird smell permeating into the hallway.
She followed the smell of food down the stairs being as light-footed as possible. Each creak of the staircase made her cringe a little. She followed the laughter until she reached the kitchen.
She popped her head around the corner and saw Ria cooking at the stove with Yuuta directly behind her whispering something into her ear making her giggle.
"If you keep getting in my way I'm not going to feed you," Ria said teasingly.
"That's ok I ate enough this morning." Yuuta shot back nibbling in her ear making her yelp her face turning bright red almost dropping her spatula.
Rena did a fake cough before entering the kitchen. Yuuta and Ria looked like they had just been caught doing something wrong.
"Where am I? Where did my clothes go?" Rena asked concerned.
"This was our first house together before we moved into the castle. Also, I didn't want you to sleep in your new dress so I took it off and gave you one of Yuuta's tee shirts to sleep in. Did you sleep ok?" Ria asked tenderly trying to keep her calm.
She only nodded her head and looked around like she didn't know what she was supposed to be doing. Yuuta motioned for her to sit down at the table. She complied and plopped down her feet dangling off the ground.

Ria served her a plate and some milk and made one herself before she sat down. Yuuta stared at her dumbfounded pretending to look for his plate.
"Ahem, where is my food?" Yuuta asked seriously. Rena tensed up scared for Ria expecting for Yuuta to beat her for disrespecting him.
"I told you I wasn't going to feed you make a plate yourself," Ria said sticking her tongue.
Yuuta shot up stealing a peace of bacon of Ria's plate. "Hey get your own." Ria barked trying to slap his hand away but failed.
"You're so mean to me you're lucky I love you," Yuuta said teasingly before kissing her in the cheek making her smile and made his way to the counter to make a plate.
Rena was a ball nerves she exhaled loudly she couldn't quite figure out what was happening. Ser Desmir jr. had beaten his wife for much less than what happened here. And he wasn't even a noble, yet Yuuta played it off like it was a normal thing. (which it was) Her exhale caught the attention of both of them. "Is something wrong?" Yuuta asked.
She thought about it a minute before answering. " I mean no offense but aren't you a Lord is she allowed to talk to you like that?" Yuuta started laughing uncontrollably at her question.
Ria just smiled lightly completely understanding where Rena was coming for. "Do you want to answer that Ria?"
Ria nodded and leaned over to explain. "Well, how should I put this? Hmm... I understand what you mean as you know I used to be a slave so not long ago I would have had the same reaction. Firstly when Yuuta freed me he said we would be equals in everything and he's never faltered keeping to his promise. Next, Yuuta wasn't raised on this continent so his homeland is different. From what he's told me his homeland treats relationships and marriage differently. Where he's from women have equal rights across the board for the most part. Meaning they can be leaders like kings or anything else they want to be. Also, like I stated earlier women have just as much say in things as men meaning if a woman is mistreated by her husband she can leave them or even have him arrested. I know it sounds crazy but it's true. Another thing they don't have is slavery that's why he outlawed it in Yuart he finds it disgusting. Anyways I still catch myself sometimes asking myself if I just did that or said that to him but he never minds it according to him I'm the nicest girl he's ever met but I think that's his ulterior motives talking." She finished with a giggle.

After finishing her explanation Rena sat In shock. That country sounded like heaven on earth. It made her want to visit it one day.
"So yeah that's the basics Ria can talk to me any way she wants it's her choice. She could say she's leaving me tomorrow and never wants to see me again and I'd have no choice but to accept it." Ria pegged him in the arm for that comment.
"Don't say that Yuuta you know I would never leave you! Geez, you're so insensitive sometimes it's like you want me to leave!" Ria said huffing folding her arms and tearing up a little.
Yuuta set his plate down and wrapped his arms around her from behind. "It was just an example you know I didn't mean it, my beautiful crybaby," Yuuta said with a chuckle kissing her cheek again. And preceded to have a conversation in whispers that ended in Ria smiling brightly.
Once again Rena was in the twilight zone trying to wrap her head around this. She decided to just eat and not fry her brain. She barely chewed swallowing the food she never ate this good in her life she was going to enjoy this for as long as it lasts.
"Slow down there it's not going anywhere," Yuuta said jokingly.
She forced herself to slow down her left hand guarded her food still like she just got out of jail still. Ria and Yuuta went back to flirting with him making cheesy jokes that she found funny somehow. After breakfast, Ria helped her change while Yuuta got ready for his fight with a dragon.
Yuuta decided to drop the two off at the castle while he and Gildi went back to Rudon. Ria is going to help Rena settle in and introduce her to Milly. He still wanted to hurry for Ria's sake. She tried to hide it but he could tell she was getting anxious to meet her family again and he wanted nothing more than for that to happen. If anybody deserves something good it was Ria.
Opening a gate Ria gave him a hug and kiss telling him to hurry. And he even got a hug out of Rena which was definitely a surprise. Yuuta decided to walk to over to Rohan's to pick Gildi up. Knocking On the door Emmy opened it.
"Hey," Yuuta said awkwardly.
"Hi"
"Good to see you." He tried to carry the conversation.
"Yea you too."
They stared at each other for a moment before she motioned him to come in. He complied and took a seat in the family room.
"Gildi and Rohan went to check out his bar they should be back soon."
"So he actually opened it up that's pretty cool. You must be happy he quit being an adventurer."
"Yea I quit as well and help out at the bar it's nice getting to sleep in your own bed every night." She said with a small smile.
It got quiet again when they both said in unison "sorry". They elicited a small chuckle out of both of them.
"Anyways sorry for walking out like that last time I had a really long day and wasn't in a great mood. It still doesn't excuse my behavior." Yuuta said apologetically.
"No no it's fine Rohan told me what happened for the most part so I understand. Anyway, I was being defensive and kind of a jerk for no reason if you couldn't tell I was working out some issues and took them out on you let's just forget about it and move on as friends."
"Of course we will always be friends that was never up for debate," Yuuta said sticking his tongue out.
After getting past there awkwardness they caught up on what's been going on. Basically repeating what he told Gio. She told him about the bar and her new boyfriend a baker who delivers bread to the bar. After about 15 minutes Rohan and Gildi came back and they all sat around for a while talking about there mission to kill a dragon.
Rohan wasn't much help his skills weren't any use against dragons his trade was being a rogue. Daggers weren't long enough to do any real damage. The most he ever did was sneak up and take one of its eyes out before retreating.
They hung out for a little while longer before saying there goodbyes. Finally, it was time to take on the dragon.

The Emperor's Chef
"Cook like your life depends on it, kid. Because it does." Charles had an enviable future lined up for him. Training from the age of five by some of the finest chefs in the world. Schooling at a top culinary academy in the capital. An honorable position as heir to House Boulier, a line of merchant-lords who have charmed the rich and powerful with their cooking for centuries. And in a single night, it all burned to ash. When the outbreak of war destroys his hometown, Charles is charged with escorting his family’s sacred treasure—a recipe book passed down for untold generations—out of harm's way. But his simple mission grows complicated when he’s captured by one of the most feared battalions in the world: the Spears of Mercy. Life as a prisoner in their war camp is brutal and uncertain. Charles has few allies and even fewer strengths to rely on. Only his skills in the culinary arts, honed over a lifetime in the kitchen, are deemed useful enough to keep him alive another day. But he’s not out of hope just yet. With a dash of wit, a pinch of luck, and some very creative cooking, he might just find a way to recover his family’s legacy and take back his freedom. This project is a food-themed fantasy that centers on cooking and chefs. The setting spans a wide world featuring ingredients/recipes both real and inspired by traditional fantasy. I'll eventually be publishing it as a full-length novel (or series of novels depending on length). These are the first draft chapters. I'll likely be re-writing more than once, then editing before publishing, so impressions and feedback are quite welcome. If you like the story so far and you're interested in being an early reviewer for the final product, feel free to message me. I'm looking for an artist to make some concept art and a cover (the cover shown here is just a temporary placeholder). A stand-alone novel for now, but it may turn into a series down the road.
