《The Immortal Dragon And Dragon Girl》Chapter - 38

Flying through the sky
Days passed
Weeks
Maybe even months
Unsure of the exact
Time has lost its purpose for me
Being unable to correctly guess it.
I Once could
But that was a long time ago.
When you have lived for as long as I have
Time seems to
Blurr togheter.
One year seeming more like a day
Hundreds of years feeling like a long nap.
But you know
These weeks have not been like that.
No
They have been the opposite
Never ending
Just
Going on
And on
And on
And on
...
Just
Let this pain go away.
I do not want it
Not again.
Have I not been through enough
Why must I live like this
Why do I have to suffer.
Why.
Why am I
Immortal?
As I flew
I found myself trapped.
Trapped inside my own head
I need to escape.
I do not want this.
Trying to flee
I scanned my environment
Flying above, looking for
Something
Anything
To take my attention.
Soon, I found myself above the Fauns city.
High, high above
No mere mortal eyes could ever wish to see me.
But I could see them.
Clear as day
Even as it was night.
The Fauns were moving around wildly
Going from house to house
Never staying outside for long.
Feeling unsatisfied, I searched for that little morsel
That little Faun
No longer little.
The one who had promised me subjects
Something to occupy my time with.
But as I stared down into the still smoking building that housed the chamber
The place where everything had gone to hell
Where she did a horribly stupid mistake.
I could see many elders gathered
And from the way they were pointing
They did not seem to be united
Looking more like the opposite.
At least
The Faun, who were no longer little, was still alive.

The Human seemed fond of her-
...
Nothing for me here
I did say I would give her time
Time to convince her fellow Fauns.
Or did I?
Seems time is not the only thing you forget.
Hmmm
Oh
Thinking about subjects
Was there not a lizardmen tribe underneath that mountain?
They usually came with offerings.
Yeah
I could go to them.
See what trouble I could stir up.
With that, I flew away from the city.
Flying straight towards the mountain.
In my path.
I noticed something
Or rather, I have noticed many things.
I’m not usually this observant
So I have come to see a great many things.
But this “thing”
It was special
This “thing”
Was a writhing, moving ball of rats.
From where I flew, they looked small.
But distance betrayed actual size
As the moving ball of writhing rats were bigger than even the Fauns city
Numbering in the hundreds of thousands
If not millions.
What an interesting sight
I wonder what they are doing?
Maybe I should follow
If they continue forwards, they will arrive at the Fauns city
That would indeed create an interesting situation.
...
No
It would not be interesting enough
It would be beneath me to go back now that I have already decided on a destination.
Yeah
I do not want to go back
I might see the hum-
...
Continuing flying
I was met with flying wyverns
Creatures of respect
Copies of us dragons
Mutated through magic
Evolved through time.
Wyvarn’s lacked many things that we dragons had
For one
They only had two legs instead of our, obviously superior, four.
And sporting wings instead of legs
Where we had four legs and wings.
The other thing they lacked
Was there below average intellect.
I mean compared to us Dragons
Compared to any other creature, they were very smart.
But sadly
They lacked the verbal or telepathic powers to communicate with others
Even so
They were highly social.
Never staying in groups less than four, if possible
Also, staying faithful to one partner for the rest of their life.
I have even heard of empires that tame wyverns
Using their very social nature to their advantage.
Pfff
I spit on such thoughts.
We Dragons would never submit ourselves to such a faith.
Only other Dragons can rule Dragons.
And only Dragons may have a Dragon partner.
Even though there existed
Some...
Let us call them.
Anomalies.
Anyway.
The flying wyverns were following me
Trying to get my attention.
Something that was unfortunately very common
For wyverns lacked one important thing that distinguished them from us Dragons
The one thing that they wished for
The one thing that their forefathers had wished for
The reason that wyverns existed in the first place.
Immortality.
A thought so laughable that even gods felt pity for them
Giving them the gift of undeath
Of age never being a problem
But
You see.
That is not immortality
For wounds can still hurt
Maim
And kill.
A while later
I found myself over the great old forest
A forest older than even me
Existing in the times of gods
Timeless
Undying
Immortal
Just like me...
Or
Maybe not exactly like me
One of those great trees was felled by the human
She holds great power-
...
Huh
Look down there.
The path of the fallen tree has created a big clearing.
Giving us flying creatures a chance to peer down the massive forest
And see something spectacular.
A mass of moving flesh
Of slimy scales glittering in the sun
Of lizardmen marching.
Hey
Is that not the lizards that lived beneath my mountain?
If they are
They have multiplied
Going from maybe a hundred
To what I see now.
The little I can see from the clearing
Tells a story of many
A story about maybe a hundred thousand lizards
All marching
Marching towards the stone lands
And then towards the Fauns city.
Hehehe
Yes
To think that me, merely sleeping, would yield such an army
Yes
I am truly something great.
Creating armies in the dark
Without even knowing it.
Can gods do that?
No they cant
Ha
HaHa
HAHAHA!
Yes, I am the best
The greatest
The most powerful
I can do anything.
I can..
...
Flying past the lizard army
I sped up
Leaving the wyverns behind me.
Screeching and firing their magic into the air
Sounding as if they were in despair.
Flying faster and faster
Untill
I stopped.
Stopping in front of my mountain
A large gaping hole in its side
Big enough for me to fit
And
For a much smaller human.
…
Stepping inside
I huddled up
Head resting on two legs
Curling up into a ball
Letting out a small sigh of fire.
Home
Home at last
It has been a weird journey.
But now
I will sleep
And all the pain will be gone
Centuries will pass
And everyone will be dead.
And I will remain
Yes
That is how things should be
How it should end.
..
..
..
I am sorry Human,
I
...
Liked you, and I wish we could have been
-
Friends.
An eye opened
A thought formed
No
This ca not end like this
This is not the end.
Far from it
Comparing this to all other times
I can still fix this
She is still alive
I can still
…
Apologise.
Oh how I hate that word

Entangled Fates Book 1 - Quantum Beginnings
“By far, the greatest danger of Artificial Intelligence is that people conclude too early that they understand it.” —Eliezer Yudkowsky Hey all, we're moving over to book 2. This content is in a state of transition. The book is now availble on Amazon (includes extra chapters): https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B07W1534R8 Artificial intelligence was nearly mankind’s last invention. AI took off like a rocket, then when it racked up an impressive death toll, it crashed before it could blossom and took most high-tech industries with it. Resistance and fears became deep-set. Two decades after the infamous Rev. 4.6 incidents, humanity hasn’t quit dreaming of the wealth and power that could be at their fingertips. A new generation of mega-corporations rose from the ashes. When one melds a quantum computer to a barely functional mental patient as a PR move, there are those who seek to profit, those who want to destroy it, and Alex. Alex Sage is a typical college student trying to keep up his grades and maybe find a meaningful connection with the fairer sex. Then, an automated semi crashes into his home, killing his family and turning his head into a pin cushion in the process. Alex awakens to find most of his memories gone and an illegal AI hidden in his brain implant. Now the pet project of a tech billionaire and heavily in debt, Alex struggles to stay valuable enough to be kept online. Still grappling with the repercussions of his injuries, and threats from a dangerous anti-augmentation political movement, there are no easy answers and threats loom around every corner. Alex must use whatever resources he can to escape from under the thumb of a ruthless corporation, while keeping those he comes to love safe. Chapters will stay up on RRL until Aug 10. It'll go up on Kindle Unlimited after that. How do you get those extra chapters I didn't have planned for RR? If you want them, they'll be in the published book. Book 2 will still make sense without them - I made sure of that. But... isn't $3 a lot for extra chapters? Think of it as tipping me for a good job and you'd also be getting my eternal thanks. If you enjoyed it so much that the idea of missing out a few chapters haunts you, I did my job as an author and made an engaging story. What's in those extra chapters? Resolving a few issues, set up for the cybernetic revolution, a rather intense sex scene with a new partner, revelations of who's really pulling strings, and a bit of set up for book 2. Complaints that people missed out on it when it was published here won't help (sorry!). I posted this for the folks who helped me shape the book, which is you all! (Again, yay!) But... Why! Why not keep it all on RR forever? My editor likes being paid for one. For two, I'd like the ability to get broader readership. If I break even on editor costs, I'll be incredibly happy. What about book 2? Drafts for Book 2 will go up around Sept 10. My draft of Book 2 is done, and it will be handed to the editor once Book 1 is published. Feedback has been even more positive. Beta readers devoured it and wanted more. I'll add a link to Book 2 once it's up on RR. I'm more or less, using you all for Beta Readers, so you get it before it's "canon" and edited. I invite active and meaningful feedback during this process. In return, you get early access to chapters. That does mean that the book content or plot might be adjusted before it gets published as I refine it. Sex Y/N? Yes. I heard the feedback, 90% wanted it explicit. You all will get the "full" experience. Will I dump all of book 2 here? Honestly, I'm not sure yet. At a minimum, it'll be up to the 75% mark as we collect feedback, much like what I did with book 1. It really depends on how good the feedback is and how nice people are. Lots of support + meaningful feedback to make it better = higher likelihood you get all the book. Will be it up here indefinitely? No, it'll probably go up on KU at some point, but I'll make sure there's enough time for a large readership to grab it here. Then we move to book 3 which already is around 60K words already. What about other adventures in the same universe/characters? Yep. Absolutely. Nothing ready to share yet though. I plan to keep those side chapters and more slice of life stories as RR exclusive. Since I'm carving this off in book-sized segments, I'll have to figure out where those disconnected story arcs belong. I'm open to suggestions.

Sara's (not really) Fabulous System Armageddon, Book I: The World Ended at Rush Hour
Planet Earth, Monday, October 7th, 2019. 18:30 * * On a fateful day, during rush hour in eastern North America, Heavens and Hell crumbled and fell from their higher dimension on Earth. It came from "above" but not the same above we regard in our tridimensional Euclidean reasoning. No, it came from "above" as in from a higher dimension. Bits and pieces of those places fell on Earth from all directions, this time in tridimensional Euclidean space. Satellites, the ISS, and space debris all were wiped clean from orbit. Even those that didn't crash with the falling debris were knocked off orbit by the shockwaves. On the ground, power distribution lines were disrupted and most power facilities were left abandoned by their dead staff. Most of these had emergency shutdown routines that engaged in a few days. Some others had a survivor among their staff that followed protocol and activated their SCRAM switches, stopping the power plant. Long-distance communication disappeared the internet along with it. The world was plunged into technological darkness. Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand human beings perished immediately in the pulse of magical energy from the torn spatial boundary. Spirits were rent asunder and vanished, their fate neither salvation nor damnation, only oblivion. The criteria used for this culling was latent magic potential. It didn't discriminate against education, gender, age, or ethnic group. But of the around seven million survivors, most would meet their doom moments later. Those on moving vehicles, like the ones driving on highways suddenly had to contend with high-speed uncontrolled cars and trucks driven by corpses. Trapped in their vehicles and helpless, they became part of the long snake of crushed metal. Very few survived. Those in the air or out in the sea were alone and probably unable to control their rides. Airplanes crashed, and ships kept their course or drifted away, depending on their autopilot. Several ended their own lives in utter despair after seeing their loved ones die in front of them. Another large group would die at the hands of other survivors. Violence and aggression became the norm. Only a few sparse pockets of not-so-sane survivors managed to band together and cooperate for the sake of mutual survival. The sole survivor in a five-over-one apartment building in Georgia, a girl became the keystone to humanity's survival. Sara's fabulous System Apocalypse had just started. She has only one remark. It was anything but fabulous. * * Updates every Wednesday and Sunday.
