Misty mountains
Tiberius POV
Watching the ongoing battle I ordered the reserves to quickly reinforce any gaps in the formations. Looking at the legionnaires I nod in approval as they were able to hold off the creatures and even started to push them back. The men slaughtered the ugly creatures with little difficulty and minimal losses when suddenly I spotted Garen and a black-haired midget standing behind him as they were surrounded by those creatures from the distance.
Looking towards them I see them barely holding off as more of those creatures arrive.
"To me men!" I screamed towards Darius and the praetorians and urged my horse towards their location.
Darius yelled while raising his axe as he followed me. "Haha finally some action! Taste my axe you filthy creatures!"
Darius swings his axe and decapitated the heads of the creatures that were in our path. Some of them even tried to jump on him trying to let him fall off from his horse but he quickly cleaved through mid flight.
Looking at him I shake my head. "What a battle maniac."
As I got closer towards their location I tossed my javelin behind Garen as one of the creatures tried to jump on him managing to saving him in time. Unsheathing my blade I urged my horse faster as it trampled the creatures with its hooves that were stupid enough to stand on its way.
Darius and the praetorians arrive not long after me and we quickly cleared the surrounding area. Watching them guard our surroundings I dismount my horse and walked towards Garen with an angry expression.
Glaring at him I yelled. "Why were you too far out?!" I point my finger. "You of all people should know that soldiers should always stay within formation! Especially you being their commanding officer!" Frowning at him I yelled. "If your father finds out what you did today he would spank your head and send you back to the Academy."

Garen bowed his head as he responded. "I, Im sorry I was trying to protect the dwarves and got carried away."
"Dwarves? You mean those midgets?" I asked him
"Hold your tongue lest you loose it human." Threatening me was the black haired dwarf beside Garen.
Hearing the threat my guards pointed their blades towards him. I raised my hand before they attack the dwarf. "Stand down and secure the surroundings" They lowered their blades and eyed the surroundings.
Darius laughed as he mocked Garen. "You're not so perfect after all Garen"
"I never said I was hmpf. By the way you're majesty this man here is Thorin Oakenshield" Garen points towards the dwarf.
I looked towards the Dwarf named Thorin and question him. "What are those creatures? Why were they chasing you? Why did you lured them to us?"
"Too many questions." The dwarf points towards the mountains. "Goblins are coming, I will explain it later for now we need to fall back before they surround us.
I raised my brow. "So they're called goblins huh."
Observing the mountains I feel the ground shaking. "Something's coming let's go."
I mount my horse with Garen sitting behind me while Thorin rides with Darius. As we ride back towards the legions I heard screaming behind me. Looking towards the mountains I see more of those creatures called goblins rushing out from the cracks of the mountain.

Homecoming | A Chronicles of Ascension Story
When Jethen was captured by slavers, his childhood was torn from him and left shattered half a world away. When he finds himself back home decades later, by methods he does not fully understand, he finds that the life he has lived has changed him far more than he knew. In a home he no longer knows. Places and people at the same time familiar and foreign, he must decide - stay and help with his parent's business, or return to the land that remade him and the family he made there. --------- Homecoming started as just a short story to break an episode of writers block. It has since morphed well beyond that into a novel in it's own right, and may well end up with a sequel. The writing of Homecoming became a bit of a self induced challenge to improve my initial, first brush, writing quality. Each chapter was written raw, given a once over read and edit, and then posted. In this way I am forcing myself to write better from the start. I do hope you enjoy the story and will leave a comment or review, and if you see an issue, feel free to let me know as well. I know it is not nearly perfect, and it will get a full and proper edit once I am done. Never hurts to fix things along the way though. As an additional note. The story has undergone a structural rework and has been reposted in an updated structure and sequence of chapters. If you have read this story already, I invite you to do so again in this new structure.
