《Rebirth: Monarchs》Chapter 49: Perception Training (1)

Even more hours passed and Kai has been continuously healing himself. Of course, Kai wasn't immune from the pain. Every pebble that had hit Kai has been felt and healed.
Naturally, Kai was running out of mana. Even though he has only been healing superficial wounds and he had a huge amount of mana compared to his peers, he has still been using healing magic at a continuous pace.
Kai's face was pale and the bruises on his body were visible. He had decided to use only half as much healing so he wouldn't run out.
"Can't I... take a break?"
Kai was breathing roughly while dodging a pebble.
With all the training, Kai could still dodge pebbles even while exhausted but of course, he's more than tired. He can heal wounds but his stamina won't come back.
Then, the old man used ten pebbles. Kai managed to dodge the first two and got barraged by the rest. He then used the last of his mana to heal up.
Naturally, with his mana exhausted; Kai's skin was even paler. The old man clapped his hands together and dropped all the pebbles.
"Alright, that's it for our first day with this. We'll start immediately after you get enough rest and recover your stamina and mana."
Kai groaned.
Give me a break...
With that, the restriction on Kai's attributes was released and he was able to use them normally. He made a blade of ice and made a makeshift bed to sleep in.
"I can finally sleep!"
Kai laid down on the bed and slept for at least half a day. Naturally, he was woken up life before; kicked in the gut.
Kai was dragged to the training ground much to his displeasure. The old man immediately began throwing pebbles but Kai's rest worked like a charm.
Kai dodged one, three, five, ten, and even twenty pebbles in quick succession. He had to break a few of them and caused damage to himself but he managed to do it. Even if he could only barely do twenty pebbles, he still has improved a whole lot compared to yesterday.
The old man then raised his hand higher and all the pebbles around Kai began raising themselves up and going in a circular formation.
"This is going to hurt."
Forty pebbles went towards Kai, though it wasn't simultaneously, the gap between each pebble was about one-fifth of a second.
He could dodge pebbles until about the tenth one before one of them had connected, he may be able to react but his body wouldn't be able to turn that fast.

Dodge, dodge, hit, dodge, dodge, hit. This repeated multiple times until the barrage was stopped. Kai dodged at third of the pebbles but was hit by the rest.
"You improve at a frightening pace."
The old man told Kai honestly.
"What?"
Kai asked, he felt like his progress was too slow.
"I don't think you've noticed but your training ability is... abnormal. You go about the wrong methods but with the right training, you would be many times stronger in the near future. I expected this test to take you at least a month before your body would get used to it but at this rate, you'll finish in one week tops."
Kai scratched his head.
"Well, thank you for the compliment. But this much training and power is insignificant towards my goal. At most, I could say that it's a step forward."
The old man rubbed his chin multiple times.
"That must be quite the large goal, do you plan to rule a country- no, a continent?"
Kai smiled wryly.
"Something like that."
I can't say that a single continent is only my stepping stone. I plan on conquering all the Supreme Beings. I can't say that. Not like he'd understand what Supreme Beings are.
"Well, let's continue."
"Yes!"
A couple of days passed as Kai continued to train. He could perfectly dodge forty pebbles and only had a tenth of the eighty pebbles left to dodge.
Kai challenged himself from time to time to dodge only and no punching. Of course, Kai's prowess in healing had also improved. Having to heal himself continuously for as long as he's awake would definitely force him to improve. Frankly, anyone who saw this training method would think it's absurd and even curse when placed under this much pressure day by day.
A few more hours passed and Kai finally dodged all eighty pebbles without breaking any with his fists.
"...Forget a week, you did it in three days. You little monster."
Kai was sweating and sat down on the floor.
"Glad to have exceeded your expectations."
Kai said sarcastically.
"Well, I won't be so cruel towards my own gran- disciple."
Kai felt like he heard something but he only knew so much of this world's language and didn't understand what the old man had said.
The old man's back was drenched in cold sweat and began to change the conversation.
"Anyway, you should go rest. I'll give you a whole day this time."

Kai stood up and yelled.
"YESSSSSSSSSS!"
He then immediately began making preparations to rest.
==========
Kuroshi Clan
Yoko, Akane, and Erina were sitting on the paved area in the backyard of Kai's house.
"Hey, you two."
Erina suddenly called out to them.
"Have you ever wondered what kind of training Kai is doing?"
Akane and Yoko looked at Erina then looked up.
"I guess it's something like doing push-ups, sit-ups, and running daily? I feel like that would be a good way to train his body. I guess he trains magic by expending it all and regenerating it?"
Akane looked to Yoko for confirmation.
"I believe he also punches trees and rocks to train his body. For magic, I guess that's what I think too."
Erina scratched her cheek.
"Or he could be meditating under a waterfall, hahaha."
Akane and Yoko looked at each other, sometimes their friend would say some weird things just like Kai.
Little did they know, Kai actually did that to train with ice. And his body training is even more severe than what they could imagine.
Erina stood up from her seat.
"Well, I'll go and train now."
She stretched for a bit and bid farewell to Akane and Yoko.
Akane and Yoko looked at each other.
"What kind of training does she do?"
Yoko asked Akane first.
"I don't know. But it doesn't seem easy if she's that strong."
Yoko nodded in agreement.
==========
patriarch's Mansion. Courtyard.
Erina was sitting in the middle, near the fountain.
Erina's black hair had strands of cyan hair though they may number only in the dozens. There were also white hair strands as well but they numbered more than the cyan. Still, at least ninety-nine percent of her hair was still black.
Her face was a bit contorted as she was trying to resist the pain. She had a book in front of her with a black cover and pages that looked like they've been made in the medieval times but several times older with all the torn and burnt pages.
She was concentrating but it was stopped when she felt a familiar presence near her.
"Oh, you're here."
The white and cyan hair strands on Erina's hair faded back into black and the pain she felt was relieved.
"You're still practicing that book? I thought I told you that it would be dangerous to your lifespan."
Erina looked down.
"I have to, it's the duke's order."
The old man snorted.
"You can't die before you fulfill your goal, your life is not the duke's nor yours to decide. It's his, the man you owe this second life to. These were the words you told me."
Erina raised her head.
"And I think that I may have already met him."
Erina told the old man beside her.
"I have as well. And unlike you, I am certain that he's the one you're searching for. And coincidentally, he's also someone related to me. That means you'll be my granddaughter-in-law in the future."
The old man smiled and instantly appeared next to Erina.
"And that gives me even more of a reason to not let you die."
Erina instantly held the book in her arms.
"Even if you're the Goddess of Frost, I am in no obligation to follow your command, it's only because of the prophecy after all."
Erina glared at the old man- no, Goddess.
The figure of the old man vanished and what replaced it was a woman that looked to be in her twenties wearing a blue robe. She had white hair and cyan colored pupils, she was quite tall compared to most women but slightly shorter than the adult man. Her skin was flawless and had a skin color of porcelain. Without a doubt, if the robe was removed and she wore normal clothes; any man would fall for her.
If any man was asked to grade her looks with no bias, she'd get a more than perfect score. This was the Goddess of Frost, one of the three most beautiful Goddesses in the world, a match for the Goddess of Light, and the Goddess of Flames.
Though she may hold a secondary attribute, unlike the two other Goddesses; she also rules over water. She had defeated the previous Goddess of Water and had assumed her position.
The Goddess of Frost held Erina's face and stroked it.
"Until you are fifteen and have been rescued by that boy, you will have to suffer a bit but do endure. I promise that I'll even gather many big names for your wedding."
With that, the Goddess of Frost vanished from Erina's view.
"It looks like our marriage is set in stone before I even knew it."
Erina smiled wryly.
