《Rebirth: Monarchs》Chapter 51: Natural Enemy

"Ughhh..."
Kai held his head while groaning.
He looked at his surroundings, he was still in the plains. There were no beasts near him and he could see the place was peaceful. The wind was blowing smoothly and the grass was swaying. It was the perfect scene.
...If it wasn't for the craters and rocks scattered around that made it evident that there was a battle.
Kai looked down and saw a note.
"A note? What is this about?"
Kai sat up and took the note to read it.
"I will be leaving for a week due to some matters, use this time to rest. I will be back immediately after that week and we will begin training immediately so don't get used to not doing anything for a week. Turn the note over to head back to your camp, the tiger cub is waiting for you there."
Kai read the note out loud.
Behind the note was a magic circle.
"So I just place my thumb here?"
The magic circle glowed and Kai had to close his eyes.
"...I really teleported."
Kai looked down on top of the area he teleported to. There was a huge magic circle but it was concealed in the thin layer of grass, it looks to be made of ink. Kai could make magic circles out of thin air but he had to structure them bit by bit, it required mana to activate and mana to form so it was inefficient if you had low mana reserves.
But with that, Kai could use magic circles to attack without using it himself. It was very good to use for traps and to set attacks in advance. Just by embedding mana to store inside the circle, it could activate at will. Kai guessed that the old man couldn't do the same but with the old man's knowledge, it was unlikely.
Kai stood up and saw the familiar camp around him, Kira was running towards him with joy evident in its eyes. It was playfully running in circles around Kai. Kai then crouched down to pet it, Kira leaped on Kai and licked his face all over.

"Sorry for leaving you, the old man seems to have left you with food though."
When Kai woke up from his hour break, Kira vanished and the old man told him that the next part of the training may hurt him so he teleported him to the camp and took care of him every few hours.
"Follow."
Kira was scratching Kai lightly to get his attention and ran to a direction. Kai followed him until they were a few meters away from Kai's camp.
There were scorched trees all around the area with scratches but none of them had fallen.
Flames began rising from Kira's paws all the way until it rose above him, it didn't burn him and looked like the flames were part of his aura. Kira roared and the flames began sparking.
"Eh?"
Kira roared more and had a dominating aura around him. The flames suddenly began to turn golden, the heat they produced was no joke.
But yellow flames shouldn't be this hot. White flame should be stronger but it feels like these golden flames are hotter. I've felt the heat of white flames before in my past life but they can't even compare to these golden flames.
But magic does influence the flames here.
Proof of that is that magician's flames can get stronger and stronger with the amount of mana and strength that the caster has. Normal red flames go above a thousand degrees in the celsius scale here but in the other world, normal red flames would only reach a little more than half a thousand.
Kai asked the old man to show him the elements before and he used that as basis.
"But this is at least... over three thousand celsius!"
Kai furrowed his brows. Golden flames were part of yellow flames as far as he knows, magic and science are related but are entirely different.
Can my ice freeze these flames?
Kira roared and raised its head. Inside its mouth, flames began to spark and like a flamethrower; the tiger spat out a continuous wave of flame. It burnt the trees in a cone in front of him. The trees were turned to ash in an instant. The trees that weren't burnt to ash became charred but stood tall.

"...Amazing."
Kai couldn't help but leak out words of praise.
Kira raised its head as if showing off.
Kai held his chin and looked at the trees.
"Kira, can you help me?"
Kira tilted its head.
"I want to practice making my ice even colder than it is now. Right now, I guess it's about at the level where I can instantly freeze water. I want to make it cold enough to even freeze your golden flames."
Kira tilted his head more but then nodded.
Kai jumped back.
"Anytime you're ready!"
Kai's eyes turned cyan and he moved his right leg and positioned it behind him. He crossed his arms forward.
"Go!"
Kira roared and another flamethrower-like attack came charging towards Kai.
"HAAAAAA!"
Kai roared and starting from Kai's position, everything around turned into ice. The floor, the trees, the leaves, and even Kai's body had ice over it.
Instead of being focused in a single direction like the flames, Kai's ice spread around. They moved at nearly the same pace but the flame was a little bit faster.
PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHH
Fire and ice crashed into each other, sound of water being turned into vapor in large amounts spread out. Kira and Kai were safe from the impact because the point of the clash was in the middle. But Kai's ice was several times weaker than Kira's flame.
Kai could hold on for a bit with his advantage in magic reserves but it was evident that he was being pushed back quite a bit.
Kai roared once more.
The ice was melting before it even reached the flames and turning into water. Kai wants to make it so that his ice would be cold enough to not melt beneath the flames and freeze the flames themselves.
Though he's quite far from actually accomplishing this goal, it was progress to see that Kai's ice wasn't melted immediately under flames of that magnitude. Kai would win in an actual fight but he wanted to train his ice attribute.
Kai had trained his darkness attribute longer than his ice attribute, in terms of strategy and power, Kai would be a few levels ahead of Kira but when only judging with Kai's ice attribute which is specialized towards utility and defense, Kira is a step ahead of Kai.
Kai raised his head and shouted.
"Like hell I'd lose!"
He took a step forward.
The ice that was spreading from Kai's body began to solidify the water at the end. The sound of water vapor was still loud but the amount that was burning was several times less than before.
Kai's body began glowing a pale white light. It was white that you would normally see from snow and not from the sun's rays or light bulbs.
The ice, instead of melting and becoming water; cracked. Kai's face had a huge grin. He was sweating profusely, it was evident that clashing against ice's natural enemy would take its toll on him.
Kai repositioned his hands to cover his face and walked another step.
The ice became even colder and froze the edges of the flame.
"YEAH!"
Kai yelled but Kira roared back.
The flames got even higher and overwhelmed the ice instantly, the golden flames reached Kai in the blink of an eye. But the old man's training proved useful, Kai saw it all and used [Ice Wall] and reinforced it as much as he could.
Kira stopped his attack after overwhelming Kai's ice. The [Ice Wall] barely held up and Kai was sweating, he ran out of magic trying to maintain his ice to hold up the flames during the clash.
Kai was spread out on the floor, he was sweating and breathing roughly. Kira ran towards him in worry.
"Haaaa... haa... thanks... Kira. I've gotten useful... battle training."
Kai looked to the sky and closed his eyes. He fell asleep right then and there due to mana deficiency.
