《Rebirth: Monarchs》Chapter 83: Gathering Attention

Like the first day, Kazuki also attracted quite the amount of attention. He also had an intellectual talk with the professor like Kenji. And this time, Kenji and Haru were the only ones who could keep up with the lesson. Next was lunch and then practical training afterwards. But with Yoko gone and Erina not interfering, lunch peacefully passed by with Kenji and Haru eating together. Then, it was practical training.
This practical training consisted only of magic training.
The instructor wore mage robes and had glasses on.
"Alright, listen up! Physical training is important for everyone but we must never neglect training magic! A person with not enough knowledge with magic can cause accidents not only to himself but to his surroundings too!"
The instructor was a bit fired up.
"Alright, we're going to be casting practicing an intermediate level spell today! According to your attributes, use an intermediate level spell, I don't care what it is whether it be defense, offense, or utility, just use one."
Beginner, intermediate, and high level spells. The line between each wasn't clearly defined but beginner spells can be used by almost anyone, intermediate spells can only be used with a bit of practice and high level spells can be used by only the best. The rough estimate is Beginner (E to D-class), Intermediate (C to B-class), and High (A-S class).
Kai's [Rend] could be produced while Kai was at C-class but a technique that gets stronger depending on your power is definitely a high level spell. A [Fireball] produced by an E-class and an S-class were at entirely different levels but a beginner spell has its limits. If two people at S-class were to fight and one of them were to use [Flame Cone] which focuses the power of flames in a cone shape in front of the caster, an intermediate level spell and the other were to use [Fireball], a beginner spell, the one using [Flame Cone] would win.
Everyone in the Royal Magic Academy has to produce results and everyone who has at least a year of experience has to be able to use an intermediate spell. The academy also weeds out the ones who don't have any talent, it'll only be a waste of time to train those who couldn't improve.
Although this was a harsh assessment, a year of training was more than enough time to train for that. But not everyone can improve in that time, no small amount of people were forced to drop out because of that rule over the years.

"[Flame Pillar]!"
The targets were burned by a giant pillar of flame. Pillar attacks were actually common intermediate spells because they produced many times more than normal beginner spells like [Fireball].
"Amazing!"
"He actually produced that much power?!"
The dummy was burnt and the outside cover was gone in several places but it was still fixed.
Kenji closed his eyes.
How much power should I use? If they were impressed with that much power I need to suppress it to ten- no, five percent? I think it's a little too high but if I go any lower I may fail... Hmm...
Kenji didn't want to stand out now. He was keeping his identity. Not holding back would mean gathering attention and gathering attention would mean being scouted by the crown prince and that wasn't good. If he were to reject the crown prince's invitation, it'll be all sorts of trouble.
Haru who was already on top of the school didn't have to care but the crown prince was here and she had to restrict her power as well.
"[Wind Blades]!"
Two sharp blades of wind traveled from Haru's chops. They cut the dummy apart.
"I used too much power...!"
Haru drooped down and was downhearted.
Although everyone was bewildered with her attitude and power that was many times less than usual, they decided it was best to ignore his attitude.
It was the crown prince's turn and the attention that was focused on their own attacks was unknowingly focused on him.
"[Squall]!"
A large gust of wind launched from Kazuki's palm and blew away the dummy and when it landed, it was in several pieces.
Kenji was too focused on calculating the amount of power he needed to use.
Then, I should do at least a little bit weaker than Haru.
"Hey, Kenji was it?"
Kenji turned to face Kazuki.
"[Combus-Ah?-tion]."
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
When his spell launched, his eyes widened. Let alone a dummy, the surface itself was gone. A huge crater was in place of the dummy.
The whole room fell silent.
Kazuki had to rub his eyes several times but when he opened his eyes, Kenji disappeared and was sitting down as if he was waiting for his turn.
"No, no, no, you can't just act like that didn't happen!"
Kazuki massaged his temples while looking irritated by Kenji. Not everybody saw Kenji launch his attack but most of the class had. Now, everyone's gazes were focused at Kai.

It wasn't as if everyone in the Royal Magic Academy was strong. The average was C-class but the power they produced was many times less than Kai at C-class. The dummies were also enhanced to withstand magic and so if one were able to break it, they'd be one of the best in their class.
But not only were the dummies fortified, the walls and floors were even more fortified. A normal C-class would only be able to scratch them even with all of their mana. The required power to break the walls and floors would be B-class but even then, the amount they could destroy would only be a few inches. But to create the crater that Kai had just made which was almost half a meter deep, one would need the power of A-class. Compared to the dummies which only need the power of C-class, third step or a bit more to break it, the walls and floors were a lot stronger.
If Kenji's attack had destroyed only the dummy and grazed the floor, they'd be surprised but it won't be to this extent.
Even though Kazuki was trying to regain his calm, he was still as shocked as everyone there. But there was one different person, it was Haru. She was panicking.
"K-Kenji, c-can I talk w-with you for a second?!"
Despite stuttering while trying to ask him, Haru pulled his arm and dragged him outside.
"Ah... oi!"
The instructor stretched out his hand to the skipping students but he couldn't move. He was as shaken as the students.
Kazuki was left there speechless.
That voice...
Kazuki furrowed his brows as he looked at Haru's retreating figure.
They were talking at a hallway used by only a few.
"What are you doing?!"
Haru punched Kai's head as she said this.
"Ow. It was an accident. Besides, why are you punishing me when Kenji was the one who did it?"
"You share sensories and thoughts! Your only difference is your personality!"
Kai clicked his tongue when his obvious bluff was seen through.
"So, why did you break not only the dummy but also the floor?!"
Kai covered his ears.
"Stop shouting. It was an accident."
"Even if it was an accident, what's the point of concealing your identity?! At first you had beaten Yoko and that already caused quite a stir. Then all of these rumors are popping about you having a date with the Snow Princess and secretly having affairs with Yoko, Umi, and me! Now, even the crown prince saw that you are a lot stronger than him!"
"In my defense, only the fact that I beat Yoko, had a date with Erina, and used that magic was real."
"Those are still the ones that require the most effort to hide!"
Haru had both hands on the floor as if giving up.
"Look, Kai. I know you said that you're going to reveal your identity a week after the Snow Princess' birthday to everyone, including the school but you won't make it at this rate..."
Kai sighed and stroked Haru's head.
"Look, I'm sorry. I know that you're concerned with the looks everyone will give me if they find out who I am but this is my problem. I know that you feel responsible because I had to assume the role of your guard because of your circumstances but you don't have to protect me to that extent. I'll deal with your brother myself."
Haru took Kai's hand and shook her head.
"Still treating me like a kid?"
"You are a kid in my eyes though."
Kai stood up and was about to head back with Haru.
"Takamiya Haruka, I have fallen in love with you. Please marry me!"
Someone appeared in front of them and was kneeling down while holding Haru's hand. And the one holding that hand was someone who shouldn't even be doing that position unless it was a royalty, Alteria Kazuki.
"Eh?"
"Huh?"
Haru dumbfoundedly looked at her hand that was being grasped by Kazuki.
'Her voice and personality is just like my sister. I know that I must not lay my hands or even have looks towards my little sister but Natsumi is comparable to a precious jewel that must not even be shown to the outside world. If this woman were to give me the same satisfaction of being by Natsumi's side and remove my desire for her, then I will cultivate this love!' is what I bet he was thinking.
Unfortunately for Haru, Kai was spot on. Word by word, those were Kazuki's own thoughts at the moment.
"Ehh?!"
Haru was shouting in both mind and in reality.

About the Author This is my first novel or any attempt to write something so I'm pretty much a newbie trying to pen down the fantasies rolling in my mind. English isn't my First language so brace yourself for some grammatic potholes. But I'm genuinely working on improving my English but it won't be happening overnight as it's a process, I guess. (for the time being, I'm trying to make it readable with some Grammar checking software) Moreover, I wish to improve my writing skills as the story grows and readers help in spotting mistakes or critics might turn it into a reality.
