《Known Danger System 42》Chapter 10 - En Garde, Draconic Jousting

Glaring at my defeated foe I pause to consider my fortune in ending the creature. It was certain that if I had met it before I had leveled then I would be dead right now. At a height of 5'8 with short cut, dark hair and a lean build I suppose I am neither what most would consider tall or short but certainly around average for a guy my age. Not exactly physically imposing when compared to the beast that is now dead at my feet. Maybe I need an extra dose of imposing? I give the corpse an inspired and perhaps even slightly maniacal grin.
Grabbing one of the excessively sturdy eggs I walk over to the elite giving it a short evaluation before I start bashing its face in with the egg until knock loose a larger jagged tooth roughly half the length of my forearm. Now the body was more or less a mess with its head completely turned into nothing short of a ruin, but I am not done yet. Taking the tooth I had gathered I use it to pry loose a scale off the beast’s spiked and armored tail and set to work sawing back and forth into its flesh with the tooth until I hear a snap and manage to break a huge section of armored tail off the main portion of the body.
‘Ha! Just like in a souls video game I used to play.’

Hell yea! This thing was going to be my new club and oh what a weapon it is, the horrors of this place would think twice about charging me now. There was no comparison to my previous weapon, this thing is in a league of its own. I give it a few practice swings in each hand before going two hander on it testing it against the stone wall where it leaves a noticeable crater against the stone. Finally! A tool I could really use.

Still I am getting hungry and it feels like it’s been forever since I have had a real bite to eat. I quickily decide that perhaps I might be able to make this dead critter of mine into a meal, cooked with my brand new ability. Feeling both hunger and anticipation I mentally prepare myself for monster barbecue. I will cook it with my flames and tear pieces right off the body, just like a piece of chicken. Preparing myself, I take a deep breath and try to will flames into the air as I blow in the direction of my dead foe turned soon to be meal.
Nothing happens.
I pause for a moment and review the cursed notifications trying to find out what I did wrong, finally deciding it was my method of use by noting that the ability had changed from breath to psychic. Bringing my hands to my face to rub my eyes in irritation, I take a moment before starting again; focusing on a spot in the air several feet up in front of me I will flames to appear as I mentally activate the ability again.
With no delay blue flames with hints of orange appear, casting a light that makes shadows dance along the walls of the cavern. Victory!
Willing the flames to spread out and cover the elite’s body, they fly into motion slowly engulfing the body. As I wait for the meat to cook I notice something is way off. Having cooked plenty of small game animals over a fire I know what a critter should look and smell like when being burned, yet I could not sense any sign of this thing actually being cooked.
Ending my abilities use I give the body a moment to rest, and then I check for heat by pressing the back of my hand to it for a moment before pulling my hand back and looking at it. It has not gained any heat and my hand is certainly not scalded and the body is not even hotter than it was when I started. Looking from my hand back to the body I focus on it and get a new notification.

Elite Draconic Ratkin Identified
Status: Deceased
A rare sub-breed of chimera, usually found in the uninhabited wilds, these creatures are predominantly nocturnal and live in subterranean areas. While most species of chimera cannot breed or multiply without assistance, this breed is an exception in that each Draconic Ratkin that reaches maturity can both lay their own eggs and fertilize them. During periods of breeding or when excited their tails will seize up and lock into place, remaining rigid even after death. This enables the creature to complete its breeding cycle by covering their clutches of eggs with their bodily substances that are secreted via the end of their tail.
As I got finished reading the notification it occurrs to me that the identified status and subsequent block of notification text was probably due to the flames I had just doused the body in. Looking at the notification again and with no small amount of dread, I summon the flames again and will them over my new weapon, only to find as the blue flames covered it that I received a new notification showing that my items name no longer had question marks, the damage stats on it had changed and the weapons details now had some "flavor text".
Draconic Oosik
Force: Blunt
125-150 Damage
The more you know.
Well, at least I was not wrong about finding a "tool" I could use. Still, a weapon is a weapon. If anything comes at me then I will just smack them around with it until they are dead and that will be that.
Still it appears that I will not be able to cook the monster, but atleast I will still get to have some eggs.

Stairway to Heaven
Humans are complicated, awfully fragile beings, far too weak to survive amid the other extraterrestrials that lie dormant across the galaxies. Instead of physical altercations, they would rather engage in verbal abuse, breaking an individual's psyche as a hobby. They excel at deception and manipulation, far too interested in bringing their brothers and sisters down and reaching for the top of their self-made hierarchies. Beyond their questionable nature and moral compasses, they long to find meaning in their lives and put names to the feelings that drive each passing moment. They are insatiable—far too greedy for more knowledge and a supposed understanding of their lives. It's pitiable, really, the way they struggle to find themselves while ravaging their kind through petty wars and conflicts built off of misunderstanding. Humans are complicated, awfully fragile beings. They created words and languages to fill the holes that lived inside their souls, desperate for ways to find meaning in their incredibly short lifespans. They'll waste their entire lives trying to find their so-called passions and reasons for living, acting as if they truly rule the way their lives go, supposed "controllers of their own destiny." Yet, they cannot evade the inevitable visit from death, who stands next to them, ticking the seconds down until their demise.
