《Era: Dawn of the New Gods》Chapter 4: Prision Break

The first undead entered “PEW”, the shot sounded pathetic but it was quiet, the undead dropped to the floor face flat, the one behind him ran on its dead comrade to… get revenge? It dropped to the floor the second it ran past the entrance, a bullet hole running through its fore head and out the back of its head; it had turned toward Jade who was beside the entrace.
The other undead ran into the room but they’re bodies kept piling up at the entrance as only 2 could squeeze in at a time, one shot piercing both heads in a line. Jade kept shooting until his clip ran out, the sound of footsteps increased as the undead that were farther away were attracted to the crowd of undead that had begun heading in his direction.
2 undead had just squeezed through the entrance when he armed the assault rifle he left the side of the entrance, facing it, and began shooting at the crowd of undead. “PEWPEWPEWPEWPEWPEWPEWPEWPEWPEWPEWPEWPEWPEW” the assault rifle was louder than the pistol, but it got the job done quicker.
With his left arm he was firing the assault rifle, the accuracy greatly reduced, and with the other arm he loaded the pistol with practiced motions that involved him throwing the pistol in the air after removing the empty magazine and placing a new clip inside as he caught it, after which he holstered the pistol and focused on the assault rifle.
After 7 minutes of constant fire and reload, the dead undead (I know, I know, what else do you expect me to call them) filled the space of 5 meters around the entrance of the storage room. Jade walked over their corpses cleaned his legs of their blood, which was a green puss, by wiping them on the floor, and went to check the remaining rooms.

Jake entered the room on the left side of the storage room, an office, he found nothing ‘As expected if they were here, the sound of the gun should have attracted them’. He entered the room on the right, the toilet, to his surprise there were about 27 undead, it was crowded, the undead were all eating the corpses of some soldiers, 5 in number, approximately 5 undead to 1 corpse.
He thought 'Didn't they hear their colleagues coming towards the storage? Why didn't they follow?' after which he immediately shot the closest ones as fast as he could, but the others didn’t get up they just kept eating, he shot the rest but throughout none of them got up, even when he was reloading.
As he checked the remaining rooms, he noticed that the empty ones where the ones without corpses while the ones with corpses had undead eating them with so much gusto. The undead were so wrapped up with eating the corpses that they didn’t react when Jade shot those beside them with the silenced pistol; they just kept eating as fast as they could. Jade took the advantage of their mental state to kill as many of them as possible ‘The poor guys, they must have been starving’, Jade thought as he went to his former cell’s section.
The section was filled with the sound of crunching and tearing as this place hosted a good number of corpses, what was different was that some of them were finished, they stood in the hallway of the jail section watching their fellows eat, their eyes wide open, unblinking, even with their distorted expressions, they’re bodies covered with pulsing veins.
The moment Jade entered they all turned to look at him, about 50 of them (it was crowded), and ran at him, their speed was much better than the previous undead and their coordination was better as they didn’t stampede.”Shit” On seeing their physical capabilities, Jade hurriedly armed the assault rifle and started a slaughter.

‘They’re faster, probably stronger than the hungry undead… but they’re still dumb’, Jade thought as they bravely ran toward Jade even as he put down most of them with a shot, ‘If I don’t hit a part of their CNS (central nervous system; brain and spine) they still struggle to get here; they have more stamina’, he observed ‘and their grey sludge is less than before… are they recovering!’.
As the last one approached Jade shot it where the grey sludge was, on the left side of its abdomen, the sludge scattered as blood, puss and organs that were covered in grey sludge, flowed out. It fell to the ground, twitching, Jade closed in and shot its head, grey sludge, puss and blood flowed from its head. He noticed the other undead corpses had grey sludge flowing out with blood and puss also ’hmm’.
He proceeded to kill the remaining undead that were still eating, ‘hmm, I wonder what happens if I don’t kill them in one shot’ he thought as he shot a feeding undead on the leg, It turned around and started limping toward him, its facial expression, a mischievous grin, unchanged, he shot it in the head and continued killing the others.
‘The undead that were eating didn’t have as much sludge in their body, and the undead I had killed earlier only bled puss, not blood or sludge. The grey spot is they’re weak point. The more they eat the stronger they are and the more grey sludge and blood there is, the secret is in the sludge! And also, it’s not that they don’t interrupt they’re meal for any reason; they just don’t do it until they’re triggered by enough stimulus’ he concluded as he finished killing them.
“Phew! What a chore” he said as finished off the last undead in the prison. He went to the weapon storage room again, He put a wide variety of weapons, as many weapons as he could fit in the two traveling bags he took from the miscellaneous storage room where the soldiers kept the belongings of those they arrested, he took some clothes, a round neck shirt, a hoody and a pair of shorts and he wore them under a bullet proof vest and a police helmet.
He proceeded to the other sections and killed the remaining undead he found there, the lion had killed everyone in the prison and those who managed to survive the lion met the undead. Jade spent about 3 hours killing the undead.
After killing the undead Jade showered, and took the first aid kit from the medical center of the prison. He strapped the box of the sniper to his back with the box’s straps, he then went to the offices of the prision, searched all the drawers for the keys to the vehicles in their park, when he went to the park, he tested the keys till he found the key for an electric bike, he strapped the traveling bag and the first aid kit to the back seat after testing the bike.
He opened the gate and with the smile of a child on Christmas morning, drove out into the streets of eastern Lagos, Nigeria. Jade, for all the crimes he committed spent only a week in prison.
