《Era: Dawn of the New Gods》Chapter 200: Low Grade's Perspective

…
Jamal broke his psychic connection as the communication from both sides ended. He was one of the psychics that worked as a server so he heard the discussion between Funmi, Mira and the Emperor along with the other people that made up the psychic connection. His feelings after hearing the discussion was confused.
The Emperor’s views on equality weren’t completely wrong. With the evolutions all men were truly not equal. The things high grade people could bring to the table were way more than the things he could bring to the table. This was truth. But a look at his body would prove that this difference didn’t validate the system of government where absolute power was put into the hands of higher grade members.
Jamal was a middle aged African man with gorged out eyes, no teeth and tongue, gorged out ears and stumps for arms and legs. Unlike the lucky people under Hassan and Salam, he was under a cruel Lord. In order to prevent him from leaking any information he got from the long range psychic communications the Lord had him lose some parts of his body that weren’t useful for psychic communication and living. There were a lot of body parts that met the requirements so he was in this situation.
The little consideration Jamal had towards the Emperor vanished when he looked at the reality that was now forced on him. He thought ‘Combat capabilities shouldn’t be what defines a leader. Human history has already proved this style of leadership is stupid, but here we are evolved backwards! Fuck you emperor and your stupid suffering! Because everyone isn’t equal doesn’t mean a person should be treated like an animal!’
Alas his thoughts remained his own. He missed the days before the apocalypse; before he became a High Human, before all this madness. He had a wife with and two sons. He was a semi successful artist and he had a lot to look forward to. Everything wasn’t perfect for him since his family had excommunicated him because he married someone from a southern tribe and changed religion but it was still fine.

The North was not any easy place for people to live in. If you weren’t born to a family with some sort of influence then you were damned to be a farmer, cattle rearer or join the military since access to good education was limited to those who could afford it. This created a cycle where different classes of people existed: the low class, the middle class and the high class. The family class you were born in completely decided your future except if you were a genius and got lucky to be sponsored by someone.
Jamal came from a middle class family so he had a better education than large population of low class people that honestly believed education was pointless. He was preparing to relocate to Abuja when the monsters appeared. In hindsight the monsters weren’t really as strong as he perceived them to be when they first appeared but it was too late to start farming en-code.
The ordeal showed him how much of a bitch he was. His teenage sons died to the monster’s assault but he never thought of getting revenge for them, he just wanted to live, to stay alive. He and his wife soon found a settlement to live in. They were relieved when they got there but they soon learnt that compared to the people, the monsters were cute in their capacity to bring pain and suffering.
He was forced to fight monsters with poor equipment because the high Ranked people leading the settlement were hording all the good materials and only rewarded people that pleased them with good weapons and armor. They also took a heavy en-code tax to ensure the people remained under their thumb.
Before Jamal evolved one of the favored High Humans took a liking to his wife and started forcing her to have sex with him in their own house. A southern woman was a rare sight in the north so it was only a matter of time before other people took interest in the woman but the people took it to far. It got to the point where the first assaulter would invite his friends and even his superiors to sleep with the woman while he was in the house. They would wake her up from sleep and take her away from their bedroom to the living room and have their way with her. He couldn’t do anything. They were stronger than him so he couldn’t fight and even if he fought and won the he would be killed for his crime.

Jamal grew detached from his wife and soon enough she was taken away from his house and passed around among the high Ranked people that were interested. Now he had no idea where she was anymore and didn’t he care. He fought and strived to please his superiors but the competition was tough. He only got the chance to evolve around the end of the WW3 Event.
During the event he honestly hoped that the monsters would defeat the settlement he was in but they merged with a settlement that had a Primordial Human as the leader. The high Ranked members also didn’t slack and constantly fought to improve their combat capabilities during the Event.
The high Ranked people became high grade after they evolved to Mythical or Ancient grade races. Their cruelty evolved with them too as they devised inhuman plans for their settlements. The human psychic server was one of their projects.
It was also one of the less cruel projects since they had the invention engine which was feared by everyone. Those with high intelligence that didn’t have psychic capabilities were forced to use their intelligence to create new inventions. If they didn’t meet up with their quota they would be skinned. Unlike normal humans, High Humans would survive the skinning feeling all the pain along the way. The punishment could be changed according to the person in charge of the engine’s whims.
The situation got worse when the Event ended and they met the other settlements in Nigeria. With Terrania and the APT completely stopping their expansion, the high grade members had nothing to do. Their race evolutions affected their minds and a lot of them that had a weak conscience exhibited a total lack of it after evolving. They couldn’t see normal people or High Humans as people anymore due to the vast difference in power between them.
The high grade members got bored and started ‘playing’. Jamal was extremely glad that he wasn’t a useless low grade member from the things he felt from the psyche of the people around him. Many people had begun committing suicide so the high grade members had relaxed their 'playing' to maintain the population.
Jamal wondered why such powerful people kept low grade people around. They could handle anything by themselves being way smarter and stronger than low grades. Jamal thought ‘The answer is quite simple. Even with all the evolutions the high grade people are all human. They want to feel a sense of superiority. They wanted to know that they are better than other people. That’s why we’re still alive and that’s why we suffer’.

Map created by Maximeplasse This fiction is based on my play-per-post RP that I've run before but with my own take on summoned characters and dungeon settings. At certain points I'll also allow reader decisions if the story gets popular enough. xD It's unrelated to the D&D Theron setting; Telduria I just liked the name and the map when I started up the RP back in the day.
