《Black God of Lightning.》47. The Training Area

When they saw his reaction they all thought that he was probably some poor person from the sticks. At that moment everyone looked at him with sympathy but also with condescension.
" Don't bother with this low-life. He doesn't understand. Look he still has all the mud stuck on him." The boy said while tapping the girl's shoulder. The girl let out a small chuckle. Afterwards, the boy looked at Lucas and smiled smugly with his hand still on her shoulder.
For the first time, Lucas was triggered. But he quickly regained his calm. He then said, " Actually this is how I was born..."
" I see, so you are born in the sticks. And you look like the sticks. Your mutation is an accurate description of your place in society. You are fodder, you are the mud we use to make stones. So that we can step on you. You will never amount to anything. This is as good as it gets for you so your positive outlook actually serves you well " The boy said and then laughed. This time both girls joined in and laughed with him.
Lucas looked at him with his eyes dimed contemplating if he should retaliate. But in the end, he decided not to. It was clear this boy was using him to increase his social standing with the girls. Also, they were using him as an outlet for their own frustrations. So Lucas decided he would leave the room. And leave them be.
So Lucas opened the door but when he did the boy said, " Hey, where are you going? I'm not done talking to you!"
Lucas just looked him dead in the eye and then closed the door on them. The boy's face turned red with embarrassment when Lucas ignored him. As the girls were looking at him.
Lucas decided he wanted to tour the place. So he walked down the path. At this time many other people were trying to get inside their rooms. So the passage was a bit crowded. But Lucas wormed his way around them. And then walked to the end of the passage. This is where the bathrooms were. On the left was the male's bathroom and on the right was the girl's bathroom. So Lucas walked into the male's bathroom and saw that it looked like the common male's lockers at schools. There were showers but they weren't separated by dividers. There was also a numerous amount of sinks with a mirror. And then the toilets. At least the toilets were separated by a divider. Once Lucas came to terms with his environment he was a bit bothered. He wasn't feeling comfortable showering naked in front of a bunch of other boys... He wondered if the girls got the same treatment. Because in his world the girls always seemed to have better bathrooms.

After Lucas had finished checking out the bathroom he decided to go to the training area. So Lucas left the dorm and walked to the training area. The training area was in a separate place from the E rank dorms. Unlike the C and D rank dorms which had training area's inside the dorm itself. The training area was one massive building. It was very futuristic. The doors were powered by some energy source so they opened without having to push it open. Lucas walked into the building. Once Lucas got there he saw that there was a lot of people here. And that made sense since they wanted to practice their spells. The training room had hundreds of booths where you could train using simulations. There were also multiple areas where you could spar with students. There was also an area that had simulated targets to practice the accuracy of your spells. And Area's where you could do physical training. Each of these areas was private unless set to open. When open everyone could see what you/s are doing. There was area's where you could buy stuff like food, water mana replenishments before, during and after training.
Once Lucas had finished touring the place. He decided to go to the sparing area. He was hoping that people would be sparing so he could see the general strength of the student mages. But of course, nobody was sparing on open. As that would be stupid given that tomorrow you would be battling it out with your fellow students. No one wanted to have their moves exposed so early. When Lucas saw that it would be pointless to wait for a battle he decided to go to the simulation area. He wanted to check his battle prowess. But many other people felt the same way and the line was very long. Each student only had 15 minutes in each area per day. To make sure that everyone else had a chance.
After 2 hours of waiting it was finally Lucas's turn. So Lucas stood in front of the booth. It then scanned him and his badges. And then the door opened. When Lucas walked inside, the door closed. Immediately the lights turned on. He was now standing in a room with blue neon blocks everywhere. The room was also much larger than it appeared it would be from outside. When all the blocks were fully lit up a holographic tab appeared in Lucas's view. It was much like Thea's notifications when she wasn't speaking to him directly. Lucas looked at the tab. And on the tab, it was giving Lucas various locations to choose from. The forest, the desert, open land, the sea on a ship, in the mountains and more. Lucas chose open land as that was the easiest for him. Then he chose sunny as the weather. And afternoon as the time of day. And lastly, he chose Rank F monsters to spawn. Once the system had computed his request. The whole place turned dark and then all of a sudden he was standing on an open plain. The monsters haven't spawned yet. So Lucas decided to check his stats for the first time in a while.

Lucas gave his stats another once over and saw he had increased from level 15 to 17. That's because he had been training with Layla Palmer and killing creatures daily. But that wasn't the only thing that increased. His attributes, ability points and skill points had also increased. Once Lucas understood his stats. He was ready for the fight.
When Lucas was ready a monster spawned 5 meters away from him. It was none other than a slime. Above the slime was its hp. Lucas looked at the slime as it bounced towards him. Lucas didn't waste any time and extended his hands and fired an arcane ray at it. The arcane row appeared and flew and pierced the slime. The hp bar was depleted instantly and the slime died.
" Aaah flip. I'm supposed to use elemental spells." Lucas thought to himself. After that, he looked above to the right side of the room and saw he had 13 minutes left. It was then that Lucas realized he had no time to play. He only had 13 minutes to test his strength. He didn't want to keep fighting slimes all day.
Soon 3 medium sized slimes spawned. The second they appeared Lucas cast his fireball spell. This time the focus was purely on reducing cast time and increasing the speed of the fireball. 0.7 seconds later a fireball was fired at one of the slimes. And 1.4 seconds the other two slimes had been killed by Lucas's fireball.
After they died 5 large slimes appeared but in 3.85 seconds they died. A notification then popped up in Lucas's view from the simulation booth. Asking if he wanted to increase the difficulty. As it registered how quickly he had been killing the slimes. So clearly he is put on the wrong level.
Lucas looked at the options provided and saw that his recommended monster level was F Rank Omega, E Rank Alpha and E Rank Mu. Lucas decided to go with the safe option and chose F Rank Omega
Once Lucas had selected his option the tab disappeared and a creature spawned.

Points of Light - An Oral History of the Collapse
Humanity endures. The phrase is not only an informal slogan of the reformed United Nations, but a rallying cry the world over. Even in the face of extermination, we struggled, we fought, and we endured. But just how close did we actually come? In our darkest hour, how many steps separated our species from oblivion? And are we even safe now? Were the mistakes made by earlier generations really so obvious? Or are they only so blatent when we look back with the advantage of hindsight? If so, what horrors might be staring us in the face even now that no one has the foresight to prevent? Drawn from thousands of interviews, as well as uncorrupted contemporary recordings and source documentation dating back to the early 2000s; Points of Light is a definative look at the last half century of upheaval, prosperity and carnage. It tells the tale of what happened, how it happened, who was responsible and most importantly, what we might be able to do to prevent it from happening again. This is a rewrite of a previously started fiction under a pen-name. Chapters will be updated every two days at 6:00 EST.
