In the middle of the ocean, far off from any other continent lies a large island. This island, which is surrounded by a chain of smaller islands, is known as the Andros region to humans. One of the few uninhabited regions left over on the planet, the Andros region is known for its pokemon which remain feral, and its diverse landscape, ranging from a normal lush forest to a desert and even a tropical rainforest. It is believed that the Andros region broke off from a larger landmass thousands of years ago. As a result the species of pokemon there are very diverse. Researchers who have started to research the Andros region speculate that this diversity of plant and animal life may be the result of a legendary pokemon living on the island.

And yet, all of this remains unknown to the island’s actual inhabitants, who spend most of their time either hunting or sleeping. In the Andros region, nature takes its course, uncaring for the world beyond it.

Inside of a cave, near a small pond there lies a cluster of eggs, each about the size of a football, with one standing out because of its slightly larger size. This larger egg is also the first to start moving. First a small wiggle, then a furious shaking, until a small crack appears in the egg. A little while later the egg breaks entirely, revealing a small, black on green creature. This little one has 4 legs, a small body, with a neck that extends into a head covered by an unflowered bud-like crop of skin, which ends in a small horn. Standing at about 0.4 meters, humans would describe this scene as the hatching of a deino pokemon, one of the shiny variety. A god would, on the other hand, describe this as reincarnation.

‘Where … am I? I thought I died, but her I am. Could it be? The promise? Maybe I got a second chance! But … I feel … strange… as if my body isn’t my own. I can’t move, nor see. Is this the time to panic? So … tired… so hungry…’

Felix couldn’t see nor feel, but still the hunger took over. Out of pure instinct he began biting, eating and crunching everything around him, which turned out to be a smart move since his eggshell was edible. After finishing every piece, he collapsed.

A few moments later Felix blacked out, falling asleep from exhaustion. Breaking out of an eggshell is no easy task.

A couple of hours later, Felix woke up. Unfortunately, he didn’t wake up quietly. No, he woke up in a panic, with a pair of jaws firmly attached to his short tail. Felix didn’t sit still, however. With newfound strength after waking up, he threw the attacker against the wall by swinging his tail. The attacker let go with a whine and slumped against the floor.

Congratulations! Felix grew to level 2!

A window popped up, and yet Felix did not see it due to the fact that he was blind.

After backing off a little, Felix took a moment to collect himself and then ran over to the attacker, trying to pin him down with his wait. After succeeding in this task Felix realised two things. One; his body was now more than twice as big after his powernap, coming in at 1.2 meters tall, although he couldn’t quantify his height himself yet at the time. Second; the identity of his attacker: His new born sibling! Or at least, that’s what it seemed like. From feeling around the little one had seemingly the same body structure as Felix, albeit way smaller. The little one was only 0.3 meters tall; even smaller then when Felix had been a new born a few hours ago. It was only after these two revelations that Felix started to understand his situation.

‘I’ve reincarnated into an animal! And yet I still can’t see. Maybe it’s because I’m a new born? I suppose there is a reason why they say “be careful what you wish for!”. Being blind wasn’t really my idea of a second chance, but it’s better then nothing. I wonder if I can still talk?’

Attempting to say his name, only a shrill scream came out. A scream he damn well recognised! It reminded Felix of the base form of his favourite pokemon: Deino!

‘It can’t be! I’ve reincarnated into a pokemon!?’
