Waking up to find himself lying on the hard rocky floor of the cave wasn't the greatest start to a day Daimon had imagined. Thinking about why he was lying on the ground was a different story altogether, as he had fallen asleep on the spot after training yesterday. In a complete rush, Daimon jumped off the ground and looked back over his logs to make sure he didn't dream about the amazing rewards he had just received.
And sure enough there they were.
Level 1 Mana Manipulation skill acquired; Rank - Rare - Able to use Mana freely outside the body 10% boost to maximum mana stored in the user's core.
Ding!!!
Congratulations on being the first competitor on your planet to gain the mana manipulation skill.
Congratulations on being the first competitor on your planet to obtain a rare skill.
Calculating rewards......
Rewards judged and combined 1 roll off the pet wheel granted. Chance to obtain a Rare - Mythic pet granted may luck be with you.
New stat Unlocked Intelligence + 3
He was overjoyed. The rewards seemed amazing, however, a more in-depth look was required. As he was about to check what the new intelligence stat did, his body cried out in protest. Suddenly remembering that he didn't eat the night before due to collapsing, he decided to have breakfast before looking over his rewards and the gains from training.
Filling up his water bottles from the pool of water at the back of the cave, he grabbed some of the bread from his backpack, Daimon walked over to the cave entrance and sat down close to Albert who had been floating there. Finally taking notice of Daimon, Albert spoke.
"Congratulations you learned how to control your mana rapidly, I am impressed. I'm sure you have received some amazing rewards considering you're the only person outside of the tutorial village. You should carefully think about the rewards you have gained through".
"What do you mean?" replied Daimon
Advertisement
"Well you gained the rewards as everyone placed in the training village will all be reset to level one with no skills when the tutorial ends. This will however regain the knowledge of everything they have learned. However, this doesn't apply to you as you are not in one".
"What about the rewards though?" questioned Daimon.
"Just because you have a reward, doesn't mean you should use it right away. For example, gaining a chance to roll the pet wheel at this stage while you are still weak. Even if you gain a legendary pet, can you protect it and train it?".
"If I was lucky and got an amazing pet surely it could protect me?" questioned Daimon.
"Like all other lifeforms, the pet will start at level 1," said Albert. "Even if it is legendary, it won't be super strong when it is born".
Saddened by the reveal, Daimon agreed that he should get stronger before summoning a pet in case it died. However, he was happy to learn that pets could be kept within his inner world, although most pets needed to battle as they could become unhappy and potentially break the bond created during the birthing process if it did not fight and battle before the bond grew stronger. Albert also kindly informed him that beast taming skills were available, but didn't inform him about the skill rarity.
Daimon was annoyed by the changes and decisions he was being forced to make. Life before this was simple all he had to do was run and success would follow. Now he had to question a crazy floating orb whose answers constantly led to more questions which could not be answered. Deciding that a few more questions wouldn't hurt he moved on to something even more shocking.
Checking the rewards again Daimon was extremely confused. What did it mean by congratulations for being the first competitor on your planet? "Albert, why does the system refer to me as a competitor? Looking stunned Albert replied " I really can't reveal this as technically you shouldn't be here so you should not be aware of this right now. However, I can inform you that when the tutorial ends you will all be made aware".
"So from what I can glean from the notification is that the other races and humans will compete with one another, otherwise we wouldn't be known as competitors, or is it every man for himself?" Albert remained silent.
Focusing on the last reward New stat Unlocked Intelligence + 3, a new message appeared unlocking the Intelligence stat, Daimon suddenly bent over and exclaimed in pain. It felt like his brain was being ripped out of his head. Not knowing how long the excruciating pain lasted for he finally stopped withering about on the ground in agony as the pain suddenly receded. " What the hell was that Albert" whimpered Daimon.
"Oh, nothing just some new nerve ending being fused with your brain and blood vessels expanding among a few other things". Giggled Albert hapilly.

"Well, you could have warned me" replied Daimon furiously.
"Move on and quit whining, in the end you benifited greatly from this, it usually takes even the most outstanding lifeforms years before they unlock extra stats and most never do" shouted Albert coldly.
Sensing the changes in his brain Daimon learned that the intelligence stat increased his brain processing speed. Albert revealed that this stat would make him smarter, process thoughts quicker and it would increase his reaction speed to a certain degree.
With the topic of stat points mentioned by Albert, he realized that he hadn't looked at his stat gains for the training he had done. Pulling up his status he was shocked to see just how many stats he had gained.
Strength + 10, Agility +9, Constitution +9, Will power +10, Luck +2
It looked incredible. He had more than doubled his stats by training for more than a few days. Asking Albert if this was good, he was pleased to learn that it was beyond good for four days of training.
"Your training was great. You gained way too many stats, however, your dedication and hard work paid off and affected the results. I should inform you though that your body has a limit and the amount of stats you receive from training will slow down once it nears that limit. The limit however can be broken through".
Unhappy at this reveal he asked what the limit was and how it was broken through. He learned that 75 was usually the limit and it was controlled by the stage of his core. Unfortunately, Albert refused to speak about what was needed to upgrade his core. Fortunately, he noticed that his core now had a level and rank so it shouldn't be too hard to figure it out.
Finished with the rewards yet still somewhat unhappy about not getting his pet, he began to plan the last 2 days before the Tutorial ended.
First, he decided to learn the mana arrow skill, which shouldn't be too hard considering his current accomplishments. It was a simple process. He guided the mana out of the core, through his hand and shaped it into an arrow. It was a simple process thankfully and the mana manipulation skill helped out a tonne. Creating a new skill however still took a few tries until finally, he guided the mana out of his core, through his hand, and shaped it into an arrow.
Skill Created Level 1 mana arrow - Uncommon
Ecstatic by the results he pulled out the bow and once more checked its stats.
Grade - Rare
Compound bow of agility Skill required to use Mana Arrow
Abilities
Mana Shot / Imbue law
Description
A compound Bow that uses mana arrows as ammo, Can imbue Laws into the Arrow to create a variety of effects
He was happy to learn that he had met all the requirements needed to use it.
The only problem with the skill was that he could only summon one arrow at a time and it took roughly 15 seconds to summon the arrow. Picking up his compound bow he aimed at the cave's mouth and began casting mana arrow. He noticed that the bow somehow helped guide the mana into the shape of an arrow, which reduced the casting time down to 12 seconds, not much of an improvement but it helped.
With the arrow finally formed, he pulled back the bowstring and fired. The arrow flew true and zoomed straight out through the opening and into the forest below.
With a deep sigh escaping his mouth, Daimon stared at the position the mana arrow landed and looked exasperated. It still wasn't good enough the distance was way too short to be effective in combat, the wind affected the arrow, and the control needed to keep the arrow stable slowly dwindled the longer he took to aim. Upon realizing his deficiency when it came to control and power, Daimon began to rectify the issue. 2 hours later a lethargic daimon fired an arrow which brought his mana reserves down to a minuscule level. Dropping to his Knees he watched as the arrow flew exactly where he wanted it. He was rewarded by the sound of the system.
Still gained Level 1 Archery Mastery + 5% to Ranged accuracy and damage.
Albert giggled "That should help you somewhat".
Sighing at the crazy orbs laugh, Daimon took a short but much-needed rest and began to prepare for the next stage of the plan, exploring and defeating monsters. It was time to get stronger through battle or become a snack trying.
Many thoughts of the journey ahead ran through him. The fear affecting him most of all however he was slowly coming to terms with his situation. The fact that he could feel the raw strength coursing through him helped. Ideas began to take shape one by one however, in the end, he chose to go with the simplest option and decided that he wouldn't range too far away from his cave home today as he planned to continue using the cave as his base.
And so after leaving the tent in the cave with the food and water placed securely inside, he turned his backpack into a makeshift sling which he used to strap the bow to his back. He picked up the knife he had inside his backpack from before the assimilation, He then placed it within a strap he had made at his waist by using rags left over from the clothes he wore while fighting the rock giant. Checking its stats he learned that it was only a common ranked knife however it would have to do.
Fully prepared Daimon began scaling the cliff once more however this time there was no fear present. What remained was one single goal; get stronger through battle.

The Granddaughter of Time
Teresa Hargrove was okay with giving up. She knew the Earth was doomed and there was nothing to be done about it. What she was not okay with was the Future, an enigmatic woman nearly fanatical in her devotion to making a difference, dragging her along — seemingly, to prove her wrong. It turns out though that the Future is very hard to understand. This story contains heavy themes, including mental illness, existential crisis and death. However, I still tried to eventually convey a message of hope. Several mythical and metaphorical beings in the shape of humans will appear in most chapters. However, they are not meant to be of a specific ethnicity or social background and are instead perceived differently by people around them. For your reading pleasure, feel free to imagine them any way you’d like, even if your imagination contradicts descriptions from the story. Enjoy!~
