《Live by the Sword》A Very Serious Swordsman - Chapter I: Pissing Life Away (2)

--Zarak cut one of them down. All it got was a mouthful of the girl's white dress. Its blood sprayed in an arc all over her, following his swinging sword. She was terrified. The other one bit his leg hard, and didn’t seem inclined towards releasing it. The wolf pulled on it, throwing him off balance and making his second slash miss. He refused to fall down though. As he struggled to stay on his feet, another beast leaped from the darkness, grabbing his sword arm and knocking him over. Zarak was getting chewed up like a squeeze toy, while Magda helped Sophie climb the wagon. She then started digging through her things feverishly, scrambling to find that trusty old crossbow.
--The wolf holding Zarak's leg pulled his boot off and tore it to shreds; seemingly thinking it was a piece of the prey. Another one ran up to rend his neck, but he grabbed it by the throat with his free arm, as it was closing in. While he wrung the life out of it, kicking and trying to get up, a crossbow bolt smacked the back of the one on his sword arm. It loosened its grip from the shock and he swiftly put his blade to work, slicing the wolf's innards open. He jumped to his feet and cut the wolf with the boot over the snout, but the blade didn't cull it. Seeing that the prey was more than they bargained for, the wolves backed off and vanished like shadows in the woods.
-They're leaving? – Sophie asked in a panicked voice – Are we safe now?
-Now, now dear. Fret no more. – Magda hugged her and petted her head.
-They'll be back. – Zarak said, poking his tattered boot with his sword.
-Do you have to say such things? The poor girl is scared out of her mind already.

--Zarak turned towards them, resting his sword on his shoulder.
-They'll be back. – He took a quick look at the wagon and asked – What've you got in them crates?
-Clothes mostly. Some supplies for the trip. The usual. Why?
-Perfect. Pop one open, we need to make this fire bigger. – Zarak said, now holding his bleeding arm.
Magda hesitated for a moment, but complied. As she pulled an armful of clothes from the chest, she looked at Sophie apologetically – I'm sorry dear. We'll get you new ones.
She sluggishly got off the wagon and walked up to the flames, devoid of her battle fervour. Realizing what's about to transpire, Sophie cried out – No, you can't! Those are my favourites!
Zarak glared at her – Do you prefer to look pretty, or not die?
-Don't you dare talk to her like that! – Magda intervened.
--Zarak rolled his eyes.
Magda turned towards Sophie with a dejected look – Sweetie, we have to do this.
--Sophie gave her the sad puppy look, complete with tears welling up in her big blue eyes, but the old lady remained adamant.
–Can I at least keep some of them? – Sophie asked.
-Whatever, just do it fast, ladies.
--The rest of the night felt painfully tedious to him, as Magda pulled out Sophie's dresses one by one, and the blond girl struggled to pick out the ones which had fallen out of her favour. The fire burned bright though, keeping the wolves at bay. Irked by all the needless drama, Zarak contemplated going out into the night, to play with the wolves some more. Morning couldn't come soon enough.
--The next day, the horses were nowhere to be found. After scouting a bit, Zarak found one of them in the fields. Or what was left of it anyway. The rest of the trip Zarak pulled the wagon himself. The women wouldn't abandon the luggage, and he didn't feel like leaving them behind after all the effort it took to keep them from turning into fertilizer.

My Life is Not a Manga, or maybe...
Xavier had a happy, humdrum life: normal friendships, a normal girlfriend, a somewhat oddball family. Until, that is, he literally stumbled through the fourth wall and discovered he was the protagonist of a manga. Now he's scrambling to maintain any semblance of control over his own life in the face of something he never imagined he would need to contend with: the power of the Genre. Hello, E.O. Tenkey here; thank you for your interest in "Not A Manga"! This was my first serial novel, and I hope you enjoy Xavier's predicament! Familiarity with manga not required (though it can't hurt)! I look forward to exploring the bounds of the Genre with you. (First volume is rated PG-13 for comic mayhem and light profanity—these are high school students, after all. Second volume is rated PG-13 to R for some violence and similar levels of profanity. Tags may or may not contain spoilers.)

The Primal Hunter
Book 1 now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited & Audible On just another normal Monday, the world changed. The universe had reached a threshold humanity didn’t even know existed, and it was time to finally be integrated into the vast multiverse. A world where power is the only thing that one can truly rely on. Jake, a seemingly average office worker, finds himself thrust into this new world. Into a tutorial filled with dangers and opportunities. In a world that should breed fear and concern, an environment that makes his fellow coworkers falter, Jake instead finds himself thriving. Perhaps… Jake was born for this kind of world, to begin with. Release Schedule: 5 chapters a week. Average chapter length: 2500 Tags and content warnings are mainly to give me creative freedom later on. This is my first novel ever, and English isn’t my native language, so go easy on me chaps. Any feedback is more than welcome, of course. Also, this novel is only posted on Royalroad, Patreon, and my Amazon releases, so if you are reading it elsewhere, it's pirated and you suck if you keep reading.

YAOS 1 - Limitless Adventures - Yet Another OP Story Book 1
December 23rd 2018: Book 1 is now up at Smashwords and at Amazon. December 30th 2018: V1.1.2 of YAOS Book 1 is out, some content additions, fixed typos. Amazon's enhanced typesetting now displays tables properly. YAOS is shown through the eyes of some genius athlete getting OP inside a VR, ah wait, Full Immersion game, ?F.I.O?. Not a Hero, not a Nerd, just a driven individual paying for mistakes made, biding time until he can return to the Real World. He isn't defined like you'd normally do it, you can pick his looks and name all on your own, just like you do in video games. Believe it or not, keeping his looks undefined is harder than you think. His backstory isn't expounded in detail, but it drives his choices. Book 1 isn't about depressing sob stories but about fun and rushing forward, pursuing new horizons. Oh, and you'll end on a cliffhanger! Well, most serials do, so you will probably expect that without being told explicitly. But it isn't that bad, there's a lot of reveals and more to come once this book, that is the first in a planned three-part series, is finally ready for release on amazon et al. The published version will have: 1.) Godawful speaker tags, I hate them, they make you stop thinking and speed up editing so much. In hindsight they should have been in to begin with. But I stand by my goals proclaimed earlier. You guys should think while reading, that is the whole point of the exercise. Apply the knowledge and ideas, improve yourself, get creative! 2.) Pretty colored tables, the damned blue boxes, a lot of work, 69 in one book. Finally fixed amazon's centering issue. Can't say I liked the hours needed to debug that. 3.) The promised Mitara chapters. 4.) A cover! 5.) And lastly, updated polished versions of several chapters. MC shares more of his past, some terrible chapters (esp. 32) finally work. Some new scenes, minor rewrites in parts. Text flow and other issues. The current challenge is to maintain essential ambiguity while satisfying people wanting to know more without thinking three steps ahead. Balancing one with the other is tough. The smut which was in remains, but the story told is not to be superseded by it. A 15+ rating for the first book is also important, not to mention, YAOS wasn't meant to contain any smut to begin with. If the Author can turn to writing full time his output should increase, so please support YAOS #1 once it does finally release. ~Thank You~ No maps so far, that should be in, but is really hard to get done right. Again, tips are appreciated. Update September 2017: Stubbed chapters, sorry guys, currently don't have time to upload them elsewhere, polishing book 1 and 2, writing 3, takes precedence. Book 1 is in heavy editing, too much to keep synced and continuing editing. I'd need a site which offers JS-free rapid managing of chapters and comments. Coding one myself or setting a premade up is out of scope until I'm done with the books. RRL-old offered that, nuff said. This is only here because the author believes in fairies, nobody reads this, most likely. October to December 2017: Life threw some curveballs. February 2018: Book 2 draft 1 completed, at ~150K words. Book 2 is fairly epic in scope, requires 1 rewritten chapter, some editing. Tables and miscellanea are in, but needs at least a grammar pass. March 2018: Book 3 at 28k words, first arc, rest needs serious planning for spin-off and satisfying conclusion. July 2018: Yet another proofing/editing session of books 1-3, 101+ chapters, ~300k words. B3 at 48k, starts out great, but no ETA, no wordcount limit, in flux. But prioritizing my writing cannot be done, I hate the delays as much as you, but you will prefer the whole released in a timely fashion rather than wait. Knowing myself how excruciating waiting can be, at least you'll get significantly polished versions and an ETA on book 2 by release of book 1. December 23rd 2018: Book 1 is now up at Smashwords and in the process at Amazon et. al.. . To all who wait patiently, offered feedback, thanks again!
