《Forsaking Reality》Chapter 132: The Four Moons

Akata stood in the desolate field thinking of ways to take control over the azure vine. The vine seemed to dance around the field as it ‘moved’ with Akata’s will. Given his strength as a plant cultivator, it should’ve been an easy matter for him to take control of this plant. The only reason it wouldn’t follow his orders would be if…
“This… this vine must be stronger than I am. Considering the strength that it let out before I can believe that. But… just how strong is it actually? Will I ever be able to control this power?” Akata mused to himself with a solemn look on his face. If the vine was much stronger than himself then it wouldn’t want to listen to his commands. The only solution he would have would be to get stronger. After a bit of thought, Akata decided to try other things as well.
‘Humph. We’ll see then.’ He snorted and his eyes became cold. Once Akata found disgust in something, it would be easy for him to become cold and merciless. He was going to attempt to force this vine to submit fully to him, and to do that he needed all of his power. The disgust he found was the way it destroyed all of the vegetation in the previous battle.
A cold air began to rise in the desolate arena that Akata was in. It seemed to penetrate everything but in reality it was focused on the azure vine completely. The vine felt this and went stiff for a moment before finally spreading out and attacking Akata head on. It was actually going to fight back!
Akata raised his hand as a gold and crimson light shone in it. “You’ll follow me one way or another.” Akata said coldly. He then threw the ball of light towards the vine. At the same time, the vine emitted a weird shrieking sound that shook the land that it was on. The ground crumbled and was consumed. It took in that energy and began to shine with a bright azure before charging towards Akata’s figure.
Boom!
Peizhi Xiuying was walking through the sect. It had been a couple of days since the battle with Akata, Pulong Chu, and Jiandan Fuza. She had been in the Tower of Clouds for a while and decided that it was best to rest up. In these couple of days, she had visited Misty Forest and meditated on the various plant life that dwelled in there. Given her strength, she was able to easily traverse the forest, yet, only to the Middle Ring. Surprisingly, the beasts in that forest were still too tough for her. She still didn’t know what was in the center of the forest. She couldn't make it to the Inner Ring let alone make it to the center.

‘One day I want to go to the very center of that forest just to see what it holds.’ She thought to herself as she walked through the sect. It was noon and the setting sun made her jade skin seem especially beautiful.
As she was walking she heard a bit of a ruckus by the entrance of the sect. Disciples even started to run over to see the commotion. ‘What’s going on over there?’ She wondered to herself. She walked slowly and flawlessly, every step taken by her looked to make her glide across the ground.
‘Eh?’ When she looked at the entrance she could easily make out three figures in the distance that were imposing. They all wore armor and were clearly not from the sect. ‘Who are they?’ She got a bit closer and once she did she could recognize the attire they had on. They all had on white armor and each of them had a moon insignia on their chest.
‘They have the same armor as that person from before. Could they be here to get him back? Or is it something else?’ Peizhi Xiuying’s mind fluttered. Even though she had gotten much stronger, she knew that she was definitely not a match for the people right there.
‘Should I go and ask an Elder for help? No, they should already know what is going on.’ Her mind raced and she couldn’t think of what to do at the moment. ‘I should at least try to protect the disciples until the Elder’s arrive.’ She thought to herself. With a cold look on her face she made her way over.
“This trifling sect is nothing, simply trash. Where the fuck is your Sect Leader at? Get your ass out here! Bring us Jiandan Zhou and we’ll maybe consider letting your sect off easily. We’ll only kill around fifty or so disciples. Hehe. We do have to wait for the war so we can’t destroy everything by ourselves.” A loud booming voice echoed throughout the sect and Purple Sky City. It alerted many residents and all of the disciples in the area.
The man waited for a moment but no response came. “Eh? Still not coming out huh? Well we can just begin the annihilation now then. Third Moon, take them out.” The man looked over to one of the people behind him and said.
The man called Third Moon nodded his head and raised his hand into the air. A silver light began to coalesce inside of his palm and shine out. The sky above grew darker, as if night was approaching at a fast rate. The silver light turned into the image of a half moon. “All of you can die now. Lawless Ni-”

Before the man named Third Moon could finish his words, he came to a halt. His eyes constricted heavily and he didn’t speak any further. He looked around at the crowd and then to the man that was speaking before.
“What? Continue you imbecile.” The man said with a displeased look. “Hurry up and…” Then his eyes went wide as well. Third Moon slowly sank to the ground as his head fell from his shoulders. As soon as his head fell to the ground, the rest of his body broke apart as well. Literally. Millions of pieces of his body just dropped to the ground as if it were chopped up. There was no blood as it looked to be completely taken away. He had died in an instant.
“Third Moon!” The two men called out simultaneously as they watched their companion die right in front of their very eyes. Their eyes became bloodshot and their energy spiked up instantly. They put their cultivation base level on full display at this moment and scanned the crowd with their eyes and divine sense.
“Who the fuck did that?! Get out here so I can personally rip you apart with my bare hands!” The man that had yet to speak yet was furious. He had grown up with him and together they had experienced many moments of life and death. As soon as he saw him be killed, a cold merciless aura erupted from his body.
“Second Moon, we are going to slaughter our way into this sect. It doesn’t matter if we die in the process, I want to kill as many of these people as I can. First they took Fourth Moon and now they killed Third Moon. It doesn’t matter what happens to me now, I will obliterate this sect. And what I can’t finish, our sect will finish the job once I’m gone.” The man from before said in such a cold voice that the sky seemed to tremble.
“First Moon. We will slaughter everyone in here. We are the Four Moons of the Jiandan Clan and they dared to provoke us. They will die.” Second Moon ground his teeth at the end and unleashed an attack with lightning speed. A beam of silver light shot out of his hand and into the crowd before him.
Before it could touch the first person, however, a beam of red light clashed with it in midair. In the same instant, a barrier was sprung up and covered over all of the disciples in the area to shield them from the blast.
Bang!
The two attacks cancelled each other out and created a blast that made dust billow out everywhere. The dust covered the field and made seeing very hard to do with the naked eye. But divine sense was easily able to make its way through. First and Second Moon were able to locate several figures in the distance that were rushing to make their way over. However, only one figure would actually be able to match them.
“Humph. I’ll take them on, you handle the disciples around us.” First Moon spoke and then disappeared. When he reappeared he waved his hand causing the dust to be wiped away. The sky in the area quickly became dark as it looked like midnight had suddenly arrived. Two moons rose in the sky, one was a crescent moon and the other was actually a new moon. The two moons hung in the sky shining silver light on everything in the area.
Each of the members of the Four Moons had a Night Moon Domain which would turn the sky dark and erect their own moon. This domain, like any other, would increase their own strength while suppressing others.
First Moon glowed with a silver light that acted as a barrier as it took on multiple red beams directly. He gave a snort and then punched out with a bright silver fist. His fist collided with the fist of another. This fist happened to belong to none other than Fourth Elder!
Fourth Elder looked at First Moon in the eye. His face looked drunken but his aura radiated a pressure that was equal to a 4th Grade Second Ranked cultivator. “You’re going to die.” Fourth Elder said calmly.
First Moon looked at him coldly and said. “Trifling 4th Grade.” He then pushed his fist out and that caused Fourth Elder to be pushed back by ten steps. “Before I die, everyone here will accompany me!” The new moon in the sky twinkled in the dark and emitted a strong silver light. “You don’t qualify to contest against me.” Pressure exploded out that threw everybody back. Surprisingly, he was at the peak 5th Grade of the Second Rank.

Edge Cases (Book 1 Complete!)
Rare classes and powerful skills are helpful. Too bad the system doesn't seem built to handle them. What even are all these errors? Our team of outcasts and adventurers will have to rely on their trust - and the bane of all stories, healthy communication - just to survive, let alone understand what the system is doing. Because they're quickly realizing that it's doing something; to people, to monsters, and maybe even to the gods themselves. And their goal isn't just to survive; it's to make things better. It's a good thing they're not doing it alone. --- Edge Cases is an attempt to take the LitRPG genre and the overpowered MCs trope and write a story where numbers aren't everything. Sometimes it takes trust, support, and just a touch of being very, very clever. Expect a mix of action, slice-of-life, friendship, and ominous worldbuilding. Updates M-W-F at 6pm EST. Cover art by Alovck of Artstation, and typesetting by jessessey right here on RoyalRoad.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
