《Orb Of Oblivion [Dungeon Story RE-WRITE]》Chapter 7: Newbie Dungeon Part 1
Advertisement
Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.
Marcus Annaeus Seneca
In a desolate forest full of where there should be hardly any activity, was a newbie dungeon, and a few tens of people camping around for the time being. There were noticeably young people all dressed up in combat uniforms, between the age of 10 to 14. David was not only 18, but the oldest participant of the dungeon expedition there, some people mocked him for being so but after finding out his name, they quickly quietened down.
One person kept looking at him, he was a young person around 12 who wore a full red robe with a red wizard hat, he also had a long wooden staff with a red ruby gem implanted at the top. This kid annoyed David for some reason because he could sense the immense jealousy in his eyes.
The dungeon should open soon enough as the forcefield surrounding the entrance was weakening. And as he was waiting for the opening, he briefly saw two familiar people. He grinned at them both before welcoming them to his camp.
“Damn, David what is this awesome armour?” Malcolm said in awe, he was only wearing a half-full suit of armour that looked to be a little old and decayed while holding onto a familiar short sword, the sword that Malcolm used to threaten David when they first met. The armour only covered his head, should, arm, waist, legs and foot. Leaving a few empty spaces such as his torso, but Malcolm was wearing a black full sleeved shirt and pants underneath the armour to cover his skin.
Malcolm admired David’s lizard armour as it looked not only strong, but fashionable. Maggie looked to be in a daze as she saw David’s handsome visage, he too saw her and they both smiled at each other, looking at each other’s eyes as if no one else exists. But unfortunately, that moment was ruined by the nagging of the younger boy, Malcolm who hates to be ignored.
Over the one week of his training, he had visited the Faeris twins plenty of time. He had told them his secret, that he was adopted which helped clear out any misunderstandings that he was a noble. Even though he had a title, he didn’t grow up in a noble house which made Maggie sigh in relief. After that moment they both began to grow closer and closer. She even gifted him with some pairs of warm socks that she made just recently, he keeps them close to himself, in his bag because it was a precious gift from his crush.
Wooooosh
The force field had suddenly disappeared, this caused many people to cheer loudly, edging on their young ones into the dungeon. Most participants had a lot of their close ones gather because, sometimes it’s usually the last time they see them…
The Dungeoneering Guild members had all planned for this, calmly letting around ten participants inside. Two of which were David and Malcolm.
‘Ok, this is it...’ David thought nervously.
The participants all disappeared into the dark gloomy cave, where cold wind had brushed pass their skin, giving them goosebumps all over.
Walking into this Dungeon felt like descending into another dimension, the air felt off, making it hard to breathe, but after a few minutes of walking through the dark cave, David got used to the environment. He looked behind him for a moment, to see that when the last person walked in, the entrance had disappeared. They were no longer able to exit and must continue onwards.

"My name is Darius Firoach, I am a level nine mage, I specialize in fire spells" A familiar boy said, the one with the red robe and staff. There were a few mutterings here and there, this boy must be quite famous.
"Well, it's best to introduce ourselves by telling our names and classes," Darius said, with an air of supremacy, to which David rolled his eyes at.
"Katniss Pritchard, level Seven Archer" She was a cold looking girl, black leather armour with a thorny bow.
"Ned Whiker, level Seven Rogue" A shifty looking kid which a bone dagger hanging from his waist.
........
........
"Malcolm Faeris, Level Six Warrior"
They kept calling out but their names and class until only three were left, the next two had stood out like the fire mage.
"Zhao Yin, Level Nine Monk" He was a bold headed teenager dressed in an eastern monk’s attire, he had a prayer bead made from bones from an unknown source as a bracelet and a pitch black wooden club.
"Alfred Morningstar, Level Eleven Appraiser" Everyone had briefly gone into a state of shock and awe when they heard his level, but once the class was mentioned they all sneered in disdain, a non-combat class was looked down by many people, this guy has a scholarly vibe, dressed in a formal uniform and glasses, dark hair and brown eyes.
All eyes landed on David when it was his turn. He gulped down saliva due to nervousness, but he had managed to project his voice out.
“David Lee, Level One... Sphere Summoner" David said embarrasely because he had yet to gain any exp in his class. He hasn't gain any exp in it yet because he hadn't killed any creature yet.
Heh...
They all began to whisper to each other, some mocking, some unsure how to act, but nobody was happy to have two useless people, the appraiser and this level one guy.
Darius always had to be in front, strutting like an exotic peacock and leading arrogantly. The group had then all stumbled upon a wide-open area which were filled with thorny jagged rocks, with a bunch of wooden torches all lighting up the area. As water sprinkle softly from the ceiling, David gulped saliva down his throat, gripping his hands as he saw the sight.
The wide-open space was filled with dozens of spiders, the size of a human head. The spiders looked like huntsman, they were brown and hairy, webs covered a fair bit of the area, but it wasn’t too much that it restricted their movement.
"It’s ok, they are only green ranked," Alfred said confidently, pushing his glasses up with a finger, looking boosting his scholarly vibe.
"We don't need an appraiser to know that, hummpft, useless trash!" Darius said viciously before adding in.
"Watch this...The God of Inferno, Grantus, lend me your power, I summon thee fireball!"
A small ball of flames, moving not too fast or slow, smashed into a roaming spider, burning it into ash. This caused the other spiders to go into a frenzy, teaming up in a swarm before rushing towards the group.
Everyone took out their weapons in preparation, but David had quickly chanted, pointing his palm towards the group of spiders.
"Fireball"
Everyone watched in shock as a similar ball of flame shot into the swarm of spiders, it took out around three of them before dying out onto the ground into a pile of black patch of ash. David simply smiled towards the arrogant fire mage who was just standing there shocked. The appraiser then smiled in satisfaction as the supposedly fire mage had his face slapped because David had a much shorter chant using the same fire ability as Darius whose specialty is fire magic.

A holographic note had popped up in front of David, shocking him.

"Wow, that was awesome! You don't even need a staff to assist you, or say a really long chant" Alfred said, passively throwing in some shades towards Darius who had a dark face. Alfred and everyone else thought that David was a spear summoner, but Malcolm corrected them by yelling out the spelling.
“S P H E R E Summoner!”
To which the annoyed and pissed mage snorted with disdain calling this class lame, but you could see the hint of jealousy in his eyes.
The swarm of spiders was quickly eradicated as it was only the beginning and weakest part of the dungeon, David had used another fireball, but it only killed one spider which gave him a small amount of EXP. And after finally settling down for a break, they moved on to the next phase.
There were two entrances, the right and left. David didn't know the details of each of the passage, but some did. On top of each entrance was a wooden board with the number five, this is the amount of people allowed through each tunnel.
‘No wonder, they let in only ten people for a reason, but what if more than five people go into one tunnel?’ David thought.
Darius had forced them into two groups of five, nobody wanted to group up with Alfred except for David, he thought that his class would be useful and that it would be worth to befriend someone like that. So, David went up to him, Malcolm followed, albeit a little dissatisfied, strangely the monk also came. The group was missing one more person as they only had four people so far.
In the group of over six, someone pushed a person away, she was a little shaken by the sudden force.
“Trash goes to the trash group!” Darius said in an overbearing voice as he pushed a young girl over, was sent tumbling towards David’s group, her eyes were dreary with tears.
The little girl who stumbled before their group was the youngest person out of everyone, Sarina a level 6 Thief. Darius group of five quickly disappeared through the left tunnel leaving them to the right.
They had then all entered the tunnel on the right side of the dungeon after resting for a bit more just to be in peak condition. The young thief had had a face full of regret by not being able to enter the stronger team, but beggars can't be choosers.
David had then felt uneasy after entering, and he had every reason to be, that is because when his foot landed in something soft he had lost his footing, but due to the one week of training from his tutor. He had quickly jumped backwards to safety. There in the spot where he used to be was a big hole, a pitfall trap with dozens of rocky pikes, dozens of sharp cone shaped stones all pointing at me.
"Amitabha, you almost became a shush kebab"
The monk said to him in a joking manner, but he too was sporting cold sweat. The group of five simply didn’t know about these traps, or any basic knowledge except that it’s a goblin dungeon. David asked around only to find out that not only does he not know the layout of the dungeon, the other four also didn’t know.
The monk embarrassedly said that he received the guide book from his master, but he accidentally burnt it when cooking fried chicken, he said that all the wood was wet and that he needed to burn paper to cook. David couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
The appraiser said that he came from a medium size family clan of 100 hundred, but he was disowned when he chose his class because his family was expecting him to be a fighter. So, he didn’t receive any guide book about this dungeon as he is poor and is by himself.
The thief simply has no backing, she only got in this dungeon by paying a fee to the local Dungeoneering Guild who has a monopoly on this guild, she had no money left to buy a guide for this dungeon.
And Malcolm just scratched his head, saying that he forgot what his sister told him from before… Everyone soon became friendlier to each other, except the young thief who was still sulking from behind them. They navigated the pathway slowly, avoiding the traps as they go.
"That Mage is a F**king bastard, hummpft, I just wanted to bash his head in when I first heard his voice" An annoyed voice echoed throughout the cave.
‘‘Eh? Did this monk just curse?’ David looked at the monk strangely.
David had a smart idea of using his tennis ball to open a way, where he rolled the tennis ball is where they walk to, if it triggers a trap, He resummons the ball again with mana to find a safe area. He repeats this over and over, stacking up a lot of exp for not only the tennis ball, his title too. They were both now both halfway through level 2.
When they got to the end of the tunnel full of traps, David was so stunned that his eyes opened so wide, and in the reflection of his pupil was a ravine, a ravine that was filled with fast rushing blue water, like a river of sharp swords, it looked like you would die painfully if you fell down into it.
A rope like vine hanged from a tree hanged from their side to the other side of the ravine. He guessed that they would have to climb across using that vine. He couldn’t help but imagine falling into the cold sharp river.
Alfred told them that according to his appraising ability that he had just used on the vine, that only one person can use it at a time. Alfred went over first by using both his hands and his feet to climb across the vine, smoothly making it to the other end. Next was the monk as he was very impatient, not wanting to be one of the last ones across.
Malcolm went next, taking longer than the first two by dozens of minutes, he was shivering from fear even when he made it across safely, maybe it was because he looked down a lot. Once he made it across, he thanks the appraiser because without him, they wouldn’t had known only one person could climb across at a time. They could only sweat coldly as they imagined what it would be like if they all went across at the same time, then falling to their miserable death.
Then it was David’s turn to travel across the vine to climb across. He had used quite a fair bit of mana when he had to find traps with his ball, but he regenerated a small amount due to waiting around for his turn.
He found that the texture of the vine felt weird, luckily it was not a thorny vine or else the trip would be much more difficult. The vine just felt like a soft string of cotton, he tugged the vine to make sure it was not as weak as it felt, which only resulted in the vine to shake a little.
Breathing in with a deep breathe, he finally makes his way across. The freezingly cold wind brushed pass him softly, but that just made him more nervous. He had then taken a brief look down, which was a bad mistake as he felt nauseas and dizzy, the height scared the crap out of him.
"Hurry up, slowpoke" The young thief had complained, she was jumping up and down, anxious.
David couldn't help but frown when he felt a tugging force, he then paused his advancement, only to look backwards and see that the thief had started to climb!
"Hey, get off!" David said furiously.
"You're too slow, I'm going across now!" The young thief said impatiently and annoyed, she thought that she would be light enough that the vine wouldn’t break, but she couldn’t be anymore wrong.
The rope started to shake even more, David could feel the rope began to lower itself. A snapping sound could be heard from the distances as the vine connecting to the tree began to weaken, before snapping off completely.
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHH” The young thief screamed in despair as the vine from her side had snapped off, David held on tightly, he was freaked out of his mind when he felt his body descend.
He gripped the vine tightly, like his life depended on it. The thief started to scream had startled the three idle people, the monk, appraiser and Malcolm all watched with shock as they saw what had happened. David was relieved that one side of the vine was still connected to the top of the ravine, but he couldn’t help but flinch as he was going to crash into the wall.

Without any special talents, at level one, and with only a mere wisp as a companion he will need to figure out how to survive in the hostile environment.
