《Nin the Seeker》31 - Nin and Faith / Nin and Doubt

“I know the name of what lurks inside your heart,” said the lizard. “It is god.”
“How could you know what lurks inside my heart better than me, myself?” asked Nin. He was incensed by the lizard’s presumptuousness.
“I know because god is in the hearts of all beings,” replied the lizard, “although not all hear him as clearly as you.”
They sat on wide, flat rock, sunning themselves in the mid-morning air. A deep valley stretched out before them. The lizard pointed a scaly finger towards the rising sun. “God is like the sun, you see. Without him there is no warmth, there is no light, your life would be like a winter. But bask in his glory, and you will be warmed through and through.”
“I have yet to feel that warmth,” replied Nin.
“Are you not Nin?” asked the lizard. “He, who, in his hour of need, called forth all the rabbits of heaven and earth? He who has wrestled with demons and devils? Who survived the desert for forty days? And now you come before me and claim you are not a righteous rabbit? I laugh at this, I do not believe it so.”
“I am Nin,” replied Nin, “but you exaggerate. It was less than a hundred rabbits. As for the demon, we did not fight, we merely talked.”
“But these are the deeds of a rabbit of faith.”
“I have no faith; in the desert it was doubt that saved me, not belief.”
The lizard turned over to expose his belly to the sun. “What would it take to make you a believer?” he asked with a sly smile. “What act or deed of providence?”
“Nothing,” replied Nin. “I can think of nothing. Doubt is in my nature just as sunning yourself is in yours.”

The lizard gave Nin a side glance. “And if god in his glory descended from the heavens and presented himself before you? If he performed miracles before your very eyes, raised the dead, and more?”
“I would still have my doubts. Perhaps more, even. There would always be some doubt in me, some little voice that would call it a trick or deception.”
“Is there nothing you don’t doubt?” asked the lizard. “Do you doubt the sun?”
“No,” replied Nin. He felt his friend was fishing for something.
The lizard scrambled to his feet and retreated to a nearby bush. He turned his back to Nin, curled his two front claws then returned. “If I said I was holding a berry in my left claw, would you believe me?” he asked, presenting his fists to the rabbit.
“Yes, I would,” said Nin.
The lizard opened his claw, revealing an empty palm. Then he gestured to his other fist. “And if I said this claw contained a priceless pearl, obtained from the bottom of the sea?”
Nin studied the lizard’s claw closely. “I have my doubts.”
The lizard nodded. “That is reasonable. The greater the claim the greater the doubt, the greater the evidence required to satisfy that doubt. If god is the apex, the greatest of all, then the greatest of all evidence is required, yes?”
“Yes,” replied Nin, “but I doubt such evidence exists. So great would it be that even a layman could see it plainly. There would be no need for faith.” Nin realized what he was saying and scratched his head. “A bit of an irony in that, I suppose.”
The lizard smiled and uncurled his claw, revealing a tiny, iridescent pearl. It shined and sparkled, perfectly polished, almost like a little sun itself. “Doubt is good, my seeking friend.” He chuckled softly. “Doubt is the true path to faith! Faith obtained after long searching—this is the unshakable faith. A faith found easily can be lost just as easily.”
Nin wondered if this was true.

Victor of Tucson [A LitRPG/Progression Fantasy]
Victor was an average eighteen-year-old kid from Tucson, Arizona, trying to figure out his life after high school and focus on getting his act together. One hot summer day, he stepped into his grandma's house and disappeared, snatched out of his life by some unsavory fellows from another world. Things don't get better from there, unfortunately, as the gents who summoned him deem him worthless and offload him to a member of low society who happens to run a pit fighting business. Victor's time in this new world might be short, indeed. Release Schedule: 4k+ word chapters every Sunday and Thursday. Starting in July, I'll have more time, and I will increase post frequency. If you get caught up on this story, you might like my other ongoing novel, Falling with Folded Wings. It's over a thousand pages on RR, with lots more to come. Important Patreon Note: My Patreon has advance copies (30+) of my other fiction. So far, I only have 10 advance copies of Victor on there. This may change in the summer, but for now, please bear it in mind when supporting me through Patreon. Thank you! Cover Art by: Carlos Monteiro Part 2 Art by: PanGalactic

He's willing to train her, and Maya has grand plans of becoming a pirate captain. Maya is going to gather a crew, grow in strength, and carve her legacy into the world with blood. Requiem of the Sea is a vast seafaring story. The world is very large, and I enjoy trickling information in about it slowly as opposed to dumping it all at once. {The Dragon Within} (Completed)
Meeting his fate at the hands of seven great heroes, the wicked drake now stands in Death's hall. Met with the Grim Reaper itself. Defeated and its pride broken, the drake doesn’t beg or grovel, it simply awaits judgement. It waits for the God of the afterlife to send it on its way, to either the heights of bliss and peace or where it knew it would be sent. The depths of agony and torture, the halls of Tartarus, the father of monsters. Grim looked up from its oaken desk and down at the creature that would have otherwise, if grown wiser and older, matched the reaper itself in power. Its faceless guise, hidden by a black hood and whirling shadows, it briefly stared at the drake. “You are unfit for the sky yet also too fit for the abyss,” Grim spoke, its voice a cracking whisper. “Your time came too soon, the actions you have taken will lead your world to ruin…Be reborn, pitiful serpent. Yet remember what you have done, see what your actions have made that realm into. Let me show you, how your greed and gluttony have warped such a wonderful place and time.” Grim raised its black-feathered pen towards the beast “Be reborn, as the weak pitiful creature you should have been born as. Take this both as a punishment and…a learning experience. For failure, can be the best teacher.” The drake took a step back, hoping to escape this cruel fate. Yet none escaped Death, less so its embodiment. Screaming shadows engulfed his form, ripping away at his body and shape. Fangs of darkness sinking deep into his draconic flesh, warping it, changing him into something else… Opening his eyes, the wicked drake felt none of its power, none of its magic and none of its might. As it stood at the edge of a cliff, looking down upon a ruined valley of rot and miasma. It glanced down at itself, seeing none of its sturdy scales or sharp claws. The drake had been reborn... As a Human. Will also be posting on CreativeNovels found here; CrN Where chapters will be posted earlier than RRL.
