《The King is Back》Chapter 3 - Arrival

The mech was flying through the sky faster than the speed of sound. In the process, Braum saw everything from mountain ranges to deserts until they finally reach the ocean.
“Wait why are we leaving the mainland? Where is this kingdom anyway?” Braum asked.
Braum was confused as he thought Yakana would be inside the continent.
“Do not worry your majesty. Yakana is an island hundreds of miles off the coast of the eastern part of the continent in a region known by sailors as the ‘Death Circle’ for any ship that tries to enter the enormous circle of the storm will never go back out again. Of course, that storm is a defense mechanism created by our ancestors to prevent anyone from the outside world entering our land.” Rosil answered with confidence.
“Right...I was wondering about that. I have studied almost every book that my father left me. I studied Geography and know every known kingdom on the continent and I’m pretty sure Yakana is not one of them. In fact, I have never heard of Yakana during my wider studies that’s why I was having a hard time believing your words.” Braum replied with a visible confusion on his face.
“There is a reason why no other countries know of our eternal kingdom your majesty. Your humble personage will answer your question briefly, it is because the technologies we possess are centuries ahead of what this world’s civilizations have. We must do everything to protect it from other nations to prevent a catastrophic world war. As for the full reason, your majesty will need to wait for us to arrive in Yakana.” Rosil answered.
“Okay, so if Yakana is a secret, then why are we bringing our mechs out in the open like this? Heck, I even saw some ships below us that must be owned by another nation. Won’t they see us?” Braum asked.
“Your humble personage will answer your question, It is because our mechs are fitted with top of the line camouflage technology that blends the color of our mechs to the surroundings. However, we can only use this tech outside battles, that is why you can see our mechs when your humble personage saved you before.” Rosil answered in a respectful and somewhat prideful tone.

Braum was surprised. He had learned almost everything his father left him and thought he had a clear grasp of the world’s knowledge. It turns out, what he has learned outside of sciences was probably just the common knowledge of the continent’s inhabitants. But Braum wondered why did they hide the existence of Yakana if he was the prince?
‘I think these important questions are best left to whoever in charge of this later’
Braum thought Rosil cannot answer every question he throws at her. ‘Outside of my jurisdiction’ she says. Braum will have to wait for his arrival in the kingdom and then he will throw countless questions at whoever was behind this.
After a short period of time, a raging circle of a storm that stretches for what seems to be an unlimited distance can be seen. This storm is unique in that the color of the lightning that is visible is red. This color brought a deadly premonition and many inhabitants of the continents thought this place to be the home of the demons. Thunderous roars are heard every few seconds and occasionally you will see brave, or stupid, depending on how you look at it, explorers trying to enter the storm to discover new lands filled with treasures.
“So how are we supposed to enter this storm again?” Braum asked confused.
The ability of Yakana to create an artificial storm is impressive enough but Braum cannot begin to imagine how one enters the storm.
“Do not fret your majesty, this storm recognizes every Yakanan that is trying to enter the kingdom so it will open a small path for us”. Rosil answered.
Just as Rosil answered Braum’s question, the storm truly starts to open a small hole, enough to fit the mech. What’s inside is a calm ocean...and that’s it.
“I was led to believe I’m going to see an island but it’s just ocean again.” Braum replied with a half smile in his face.
“Your majesty, this is the second layer of protection in case of anyone managing to enter the storm. The island is protected by a barrier that uses the same camouflage technology as our mechs and it will reveal itself after confirming our identities.” Rosil replied back.

After flying for a while, two mechs can be seen flying towards them. The mechs are silver in color and have the heads of a dog,
“Halt! State your mission outside Yakana!” One of the mechs asked.
“I am sergeant Rosil Kaseli of the 909th regiment of the royal forces. I am bringing the VIP. “ Rosil answered.
After Rosil answered those guards, their mechs starts to do a salute by bringing their right hand towards their chest.
“Your majesty! Welcome to Yakana!” Both mechs said at the same time.
Their voices hold a deep respect towards Braum, which was weird since he doesn’t know anything about them.
“Stand down soldiers. I must quickly bring his majesty to the castle. Please let us in.” Rosil replied.
Rosil’s voice seemed as if she was in a hurry and she does not want to waste further formalities.
“At once, We, the guard dogs of Yakana welcomes the Crown Prince Braum Gundala! Please enter your eternal kingdom!” Both mechs replied back with a respectful tone.
Both of the mechs said that at the same time. They then start to make way for Rosil to enter the barrier.
After entering the barrier, the island can be seen. Braum has never seen anything like this. Tall skyscrapers made of metal that stretches until the heavens above. A port near the ocean having ships that do not require any sails to move. Fast moving vehicles that hover above the ground can be seen zooming around the city roads. In the middle of the city, a castle can be seen. This castle is unique in that it still has a traditional design in its architecture. The whole castle is golden in color and is a striking contrast to the rest of the city.
“Holy mother of god…” Braum muttered.
Braum has seen paintings of kingdoms within the continent. What Yakana has seems to be something from the far off future.
The mech then starts to descend and lands into the castle’s front courtyard.
“Your majesty, please exit the mech.” Rosil said to Braum.
The mechs start to open its mouth and Braum immediately jumps down. What greeted him was hundreds of soldiers on one knee with a great general in front also saluting. This general looks to be in his late 40s and carries a magnificent red beard that matches his hair color. His build is out of this world with muscles bulging out of his military clothing. His face has a scar that does down from the top of his right eye to his chin.
“Wow… A very macho looking man. Quite tall too, I wish I’m going to be as tall as him one day. Those muscles! I’ll need to work even harder to match him…” Braum muttered.
Out of bad habit, Braum starts to voice out his inner thoughts.
“ *Cough* Cough* Your Majesty, My name is Kraus Kaseli, the current fifth great general of Yakana’s royal forces. Welcome to Yakana's capital city Rolanta!" Kraus replied.
Kraus interrupted Braum as he seems to be going on and on. Braum starts to look embarrassed while scratching his head.
“Aah...I’m terribly sorry I’m used to being alone all the time. “ Braum said while scratching the back of his head.
“You do not need to apologize Your Majesty!” Kraus replied urgently.
Kraus was looking frantic to stop his future king apologizing towards him.
“No, I do. I’m sorry. But let’s move on to more important things. For what reason was I summoned here and why was I told I am going to be the next in line to the throne when I am the 9th prince? What happened to the current ruler and my brothers and sisters?” Braum asked.
Braum answered in a dignified tone and serious face, his joking manner disappeared.
“That...Come inside the castle Your Majesty, we will explain everything for you.” Kraus answered with a grim tone.
Kraus’s face turned grim. It seems there were some urgent reasons why an abandoned 9th prince is going to be the next king.

Thief of Time
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Book 1: The Legend of Tot Synopsis: Claud Primus, a self-declared master thief, has a simple goal. To live forever. It's a rather easy task, for miraculous objects called lifestones are able to extend one's lifespan. These lifestones are best found in the treasuries of nobles, lovely resorts that Claud pays a visit to every so often. Unfortunately, one of those nightly visits go awry, and Claud is forced to escape with just a single lifestone and a box in hand. Normally, that's when things die down. The guards yawn, the gates close, and the night continues. But this time, the night isn't that forgiving. A dozen schemes result in the murder of someone important, and with a convenient scapegoat — Claud — at hand, it doesn't take long for him to be framed as a heinous criminal, wanted for the indirect murder of someone high up...and it just gets worse from there. Book 2: The Moon Lords' Rise Synopsis: As ordered chaos sweeps across Licencia, Claud leaves for Julan Barony, intent on making some profits there. Accompanied by the erstwhile heiress of Julan, a fellow member of the Moon Lords, the two plot against the barony's wealth...as well as a promise to bring about its downfall. Meanwhile, back home, the Moon Lords have busied themselves with digesting their gains. Eyes, however, are beginning to turn to this proverbial fish in a small pond. The fishermen are coming. When they cast their hook, what will Dia and the others do? Book 3: Murders under the Moons Synopsis: In the sleepy town of Nachtville, where Claud and Lily are forced to stop at, a set of nasty murders occurs. Victims scream out in fright, before a spear falls from the sky to end their suffering. Cowed and cautious, the master thief and his partner slink in the shadows, their objective that of home... A new task, however, has fallen on Dia. With a trusty helper at her side, she has to set off towards Nachtville itself, to solve the mystery Claud had abandoned. Faced with an enemy whose sole skillset is geared towards killing, how will they succeed? And what dark secrets will they find? Book 4: In the Dark of the Moons Synopsis: The year has ended. The four months of the full moons will soon be followed by two months of the new moons. Duke Istrel's ascension is around the corner. Amidst this political upheaval, Count Nightfall, Licencia's strongest defender, has been called away. The Moon Lords' largest task yet — to protect Licencia in the absence of its ruler — has begun. And yet, trouble is unrelenting. A distinguished personage, one that Claud fears, has been found dead in the county, his brains dug out and his body disemboweled. The inquisitors of the White Church have been dispatched to investigate and apprehend the murderer...as well as the person behind this puppet. Tormented by a call to fight, Claud directs his eyes out of the city, looking for the puppetmaster. Skulking in the shadows, the master thief will soon confront his greatest foe yet. A foe just like him. Book 5: Moonlit Tides and Darkened Seas Synopsis: A new era has begun. For the privileged, the sands of time dribble away for every passing moment, counting down to the arrival of a entity of mythical proportions. The night now harbours shadows and fog, and operatives of the Moons and the Dark clash in shadow. Claud, as usual, is investigating a spate of nasty disappearances in the city, but little does he know what these disappearances truly mean. And yet, a tide is coming. When it finally breaks, what will he do? Book 6: Secrets in Shadow Synopsis: The person behind a strike that would enter the annals of history flees his home, bringing with him the person closest to his heart into a new land and into a new world. Having left Istrel for the first time in his life, the two of them attempt to settle down in foreign lands, only to be caught in the middle of hostilities between two mighty powers grappling for dominion. Yet, none of that has anything to do with him. Following his desires, Claud eventually makes his way to the fabled Celestia Ruins, a fragment of another world. Bearing witness to truths he cannot yet comprehend, he returns from his exploration, a small break away from the machinations of destiny. One thing, however, is for certain. Destiny will not wait for him. Book 7: Reddest Rage Synopsis: Destiny churns on, heedless of mortal machinations, and Claud watches as the battlegrounds between the Moons and the Dark are drawn up. With the forces of the great Dark occupying Lostfon, Claud comes to a startling realisation — that he may have very well be a murderer of heinous proportions. Grappling with that realisation, he struggles to prepare for his Second Tutorial... Back in Istrel, Dia finds herself confronted with a perennial truth. Even in a time of writhing destiny, the machinations between nobles never cease to end — and unfortunately for her, the group once known as the Moon Lords are forced into dealing with a petty squabble between two counts. What they didn't account for, however, was the startling discovery they would soon make... And the shadow of the Red God's Holy Son behind it all. Book 8: Darkness Descends Synopsis: Nightmares haunt the horizon as Claud sinks and awakens from a seeming dream. What was once illusory begins to play out before him, in a way he cannot imagine. Dia, forced to wield arms, begins and ends a battle that opens her eyes to the vast dangers that lurk in this sundered world. Under the banner of humanity and divinity, she beholds the silent, forgotten protectors of Orb...but there is no forgetting the battle between the divinities. The Dark descends, the Moons writhe, and the horns of war blow once more. But this is not their battle. Not yet. Book 9: Moons Muster Synopsis: As more and more events fall into place, Claud finds himself desperate. Not for himself, but for the person who has turned into his world. Armed with the knowledge of a certain future, he approaches the only person that could possibly help him in his time of need, trading information for a promise of help. With that as solace, he returns to the grim task of understanding and seeking, revisiting an ancient, shattered fragment of another world...unleashing changes that he never knew was possible. Back in Istrel, Dia and the others must now navigate around a familiar spirit, who seeks to investigate the death of his master's Bearer. With them as prime suspects, the Seekers of Life must move carefully...but the Coloured Gods are not the only divinities eyeing them closely. The Moons, bristling from repeated defeats, are looking for new recruits, and the Seekers of Life are prime cannon fodder. Above all, destiny marches on, the unfeeling clock a warning to all. The Trial of Aeons will soon arrive. Book 10: Destiny Divine Synopsis: ??? Release frequency: one every few days or something, I guess. (This work is also being serialised on Webnovel under the name Revile as a trial run)
