《Red Road》Chapter 14 – We’re friends, right?

“Kiron and Girse!”
A smile appeared on Kiron’s face as he heard that he would be able to fight Girse in the first round! “Girse, Douglas is good friend of mine! Remember him?” Kiron looked at Girse as he spoke, he wore a friendly smile, and almost making it seem like there was no enmity between the two.
Girse actually had a good impression of Kiron, he wanted to befriend Kiron, “Douglas? Can’t say I remember anyone who goes by that name. Could you enlighten me?” Douglas had a curious look on his face. Was Douglas someone from the Black Turtle Sect perhaps?
Kiron had a friendly smile on his face, “Oh trust me, and I’ll enlighten you during our match tomorrow! I’m looking forward to it, fellow cultivator!”
Thanks to Robin teaching Kiron how to lie, he was able to keep a calm, straight face during his conversation with Girse. Kiron had actually asked Robin how he could lie without giving it away…
Girse felt that a friendship was forming between the two, and with a smile, “I’m looking forward to our match tomorrow as well, though I am pretty sure you will win!” Girse said with a self-deprecating laugh.
“Anyways, I have to leave now. I’m looking forward to our match tomorrow!” Kiron said as he walked off the platform.
Kiron started walking towards his room at the inn.
…
“Ah, you’re back!” Robin looked at Kiron who just came in through the door… But the strange thing was, the moment Kiron came into the room, he burst into laughter!
Robin was stunned, why did Kiron suddenly burst into laughter? “Kiron… Why are you laughing?”
Kiron then proceeded to tell Robin about what happened, and how he managed to trick Girse into thinking that they were friends.
Now, Kiron wasn’t the only one laughing. The room was filled with chatter and laughter.
…
“Elder Ronai!” Girse walked up to Elder Ronai, “I managed to befriend Kiron!” Girse spoke with a satisfied look on his face. Elder Ronai was sad because he had messed up his one chance at recruiting an exceptionally talented youngster. But upon hearing Girse speak, his sad face suddenly turned into a happy one!
Elder Ronai turned around and looked at Girse, “You managed to befriend Kiron? That’s great!” Elder Ronai saw an opportunity in this. If he could use the friendship between Girse and Kiron to fix his bad relationship with Kiron, then he might get a perfect disciple that can bring his fame up!

Seeing Elder Ronai praising him, Girse couldn’t help but be happy. “Then, I’ll talk to him tomorrow after our match! Whatever enmities exist between you two, I’m sure we can fix them!”
Elder Ronai started laughing, “If everything works out, I’ll give you 10 High Ranked Cores! You’re soon 12 years old, so that should be enough for you to break through to the 7th rank!”
Girse’s eyes started glowing, 10 High Ranked Cores? Even for a sect member, that was a lot!
“It seems like the heavens are paying me back for some of my previous deeds! I must’ve been a good person in my previous life” Girse thought to himself.
…
Kiron and Robin had been talking for that last couple of hours.
“It’s getting late, I should probably go sleep now” Tomorrow was the final rounds of the tournament. He needed to get some rest.
…
The sun was rising, the birds were chirping and the streets were filled with people. Today was the last day of the tournament!
Kiron and Robin left their room and started walking towards the stage where Kiron would fight the final matches of the tournament.
“Kiron! Robin!” Douglas sat in the V.I.P seats together with Elder Pavong and the other Burning Phoenix Sect members.
Kiron walked up to the seats, “Hey Douglas! I see the first match has already begun! 2 more matches after this one, and it will be my turn to fight!” Kiron had a somewhat evil grin on his face as he spoke.
“Let’s just hope he doesn’t surrender the moment you step on the stage later!” Douglas said in a jokingly manner. Robin started laughing, “You don’t know what happened yesterday?” Robin then proceeded to tell Douglas about what happened yesterday, how Kiron had managed to trick Girse into thinking that they were friends.
Laughter and chatter could be heard from the boys as they spoke.
… Some minutes passed by, the first 3 matches had already been decided. Jin had won his match against someone at the 5th rank, and advanced to the semifinals.
“Match 4, Girse versus Kiron!”
Kiron looked at Douglas, “It’s my turn now. I’ll be sure to give Girse what he deserves, and I’ll make sure he won’t forget your name!” Kiron said with an evil grin on his face as he started walking towards the stage.

Kiron walked up to the stage, he saw that Girse had already stepped onto the stage.
“Hello Brother Kiron! I hope you will enlighten me today!” Girse said as he bowed politely.
Kiron slightly bowed his head in response.
“Begin fight!”
The Black Turtle Sect members were sitting on the front row, near the stage. They were able to see the full fight clearly, “Elder Ronai, who do you think will win?” One of the young disciples asked.
“I think Kiron will win this fight, but I also think a good friendship will form between him and Girse!” Elder Ronai said with a smile on his face.
Girse charged at Kiron, raising his fist, preparing to attack. Just as Girse was about to throw his fist at Kiron he felt an incredible pain in his leg!
*Crush*
Kiron had thrown a kick towards Girse’s knee. When his kick connected with Girse’s knee, all that could be heard was the sound of something being crushed.
“AHHHHHHHH!” Girse fell down and used the leg that wasn’t broken to support himself. “Do you remember Douglas now? You broke his legs, stole his Mid Ranked Core, then you threw him down a crevice!” Kiron’s friendly face had just turned into the face of anger.
Girse stared at Kiron with a pitiful look in his eyes, he realized that Kiron was going to beat him up. Girse was about to raise his hand and surrender, but when he opened his eyes, he could see another kick flying towards him.
*Bang*
The kick landed at Girse’s chest, completely shattering his rib bones. Girse’s body was sent flying outside the ring. His body landed only a couple of meters away from Elder Ronai.
Everyone expected to see Kiron win, but this… Dead silence. No one made a single sound, they all just stared at Kiron as he walked off the stage, towards Robin and the others.
Elder Ronai received an even bigger shock than the others, he had been looking forward to Kiron and Girse fighting, mainly because he thought that their fight would trigger an event leading to Kiron becoming his personal disciple, but instead… Elder Ronai was stunned. He just sat there, staring at the stage.
“Haha, well done, Kiron!” Elder Ronai knew that Girse was the one who broke Douglas’s legs and stole his Mid Ranked Core. As an elder, he couldn’t possibly bring himself to attack a young disciple, who’s not even 15 years old.
In this world, when someone reaches the 2nd rank of the Profound Practitioner Realm, they’ll be able to live for 100 years, when someone reaches the Profound Spirit Realm, they’ll be able to live for 250 years, and when someone reaches the Profound Elemental Realm, they’ll be able to live for a thousand years!
A cultivator cares mainly about 2 things; Honor and Strength! And lowering yourself to deal with someone who’s still just a child, that’s just wrong. Doing something like that would result in losing all your honor.
“But Kiron, I have to ask… Why are you so strong? You’re clearly at the 2nd rank!” Elder Ronai stared at Kiron for a couple of seconds before continuing, “Do you perhaps have a soul beast? No… For you to possess such strength, you’d need a Divine Beast as your soul beast, and there are no divine beasts outside the chaotic lands…”
There are 2 types of beasts: Profound beasts and Divine Beasts. Profound beasts exist everywhere, but Divine Beasts? Divine Beasts are the strongest creatures, possessing both an incredible soul and incredible strength. But they’re also exceptionally rare. Even in the chaotic lands, that covers over 90 percent of this world, they are considered incredibly rare.
And there is only one man known to have a Diving Beast as a soul beast. Baroona, God of War. He stood on top of the world with his soul beast, Musfel!
Though no one knows where he currently is, there are rumors everywhere. Some thinks he’s in the chaotic lands, some thinks he died somewhere… And some believe he turned into a god and ascended to the higher realms!
