《Gratuitous Item Crafting and Descriptions (and shoddy economics)》Bow of Extreme Concussive Force and Humility

"I wonder what next? Hmmm, something new. Oooh what about a bow?"
Jimmy grabbed a plank of wood, a wood cutting axe and a few other tools. He didn't have a real plan; he just trusted his instinct. Hack hack. The plank was split from being too thick, to now several even thickness, and made less broad. Testing the bend of the pieces, he quickly forged a bunch of nails, nuts and bolts from left-over metals. Hammering the metalwork into the wood, and using resin in ways he didn't think about, he managed to combine it all together.
As the time went by, and Jimmy manipulated the various parts and even somehow melted and beat and adjusted the curve of the bow, the form grew more intense and cultured. Most bows were single curved, other bows were double curved (only the experienced bowyers did so, and only for experienced troops), this one was triple curved. Mechanical pullies never before seen, some patterns carved into it. A beautiful polish.
The only thing remaining was to string the Bow and get some arrows for testing.
So Jimmy walked to the village - quite close by - and bought a number of animal body parts and materials for making a bow string. He excitedly got back to his workplace, and prepared the string. He settled for a goat intestine prepped with a special ointment Jimmy rustled up. With great care he got the bow strung and made sure everything worked together properly.
Once he put it down on a bench to the side to start the forging of arrows, he found himself filled with pride where before that feeling common to him had not been present. The process of crafting good quality arrows took very little time, and soon he was able to test the Bow.

Figuring one of the nearby trees was as good a target as any, he gingerly nocked and pulled back the string - not fully since he was wary of what may happen to his hand - and released it at the tree.
A Thrum and an almost immediate Crunch sksk and crash as the adult tree was struck a mighty blow and the trunk fell over. Fortunately the opposite direction to Jimmy for otherwise it may well have killed him. "Oh."
Jimmy's father was there very fast and was in the process of being very angry but his avarice kicked in faster when he registered how much money could be gained from selling such a mighty weapon. Much rubbing of hands together and smug purple prose to the local lord later, and the lord was shelling out another chunk of his wealth for the Bow.
Some time later, that local lord was required to personally lead the defense against a roving Beast Man tribe that had encroached upon the demesne and had been raping and pillaging. Wielding the BECFE, he killed a great many of the Beast Men and forced them to leave for good. He received a great deal of respect and a new parcel of land with his work, and his humility made him a medium level noble celebrity of a kind. While normally proud, whenever he was in the field he was the opposite. This cycle continued, and in fact he ended up dying of old age having lived a decent life.

Tower of Babel: Speedrunner
Launch day. That was what they called it. The day when over four million people vanished in an instant from the island of Manhattan. The day earthquakes ravaged the east coast. The day a one hundred and one kilometer tall tower rose from the wreckage of the now empty city. The day every screen, newspaper, and smart phone displayed a single message from an unknown source: The Great Emperor has issued his challenge. From the ruins of the Old World rise the Tower. Its doors will soon open, and the great game will begin. A hundred floors and a hundred challenges await the worthy. And to the victor? A Wish of Unlimited Power. Cayden Caros yearned to play that game. His only problem? The Terms and Conditions. A strict set of rules that, among other things, prevented anyone under the age of sixteen from entering the tower. Forced to wait for over two years, Cayden did the only thing he could do to pass the time. He researched, he practiced and he prepared. It would take a lot to catch up to players with such an enormous head start. Lucky for him, he was a special type of gamer. A SpeedRunner So.... It has been a hot minute. I don't like talking about my personal life, but suffice to say I had some fairly bad times for the last couple of years and have only just recently pulled myself back to good health, physically and mentally. I have a very supportive partner, and am put together enough that I want to get back to doing what I love. Writing nerd fiction that I am too embarassed to try to explain when people inevitably ask what my books are about. Still beats when I used to write erotica. Story updates for book 3 should be on a daily schedule, baring unforseen circumstances. The majority of chapters from books one and two have been pulled down to keep with amazon's KU rules. Book one is found here. Book two is found here. If you like the story, please comment or favorite. Each comment goes a long way towards pushing visibility for the story, which means more people get to see it and I feel slightly more validated as a writer. I have a discord now where you can ask me things and I can be like 'no. no. I'm not answering that. no."
