Chapter 9: Party Quest
After the grand facade with that pervert, I headed upstairs to my room.
It made me wonder at the same time; if he really is as rich as he told, then what is he doing around in this inn?
Come to think of it, his breastplate even has the same crest as that mustache old man.
“Were they perhaps related to each other?”
I muttered those words to myself, turned around the hallway, and face the door to our room.
*knock knock*
I tried knocking. Even though this room is ours, I don’t want to barge inside without giving as much as a hint. It would be disrespectful if I came inside while she's changing, or something similar to that.
Seconds later and there’s still no answer…
“I’m coming in!”
So without further ado, I entered the room. The room looks surprisingly hollow and empty.
“Meles?”
I suddenly called her name out of panic. Immediately, I searched every nook and cranny of our room; the bathroom, underneath the bed, the closet…
—She’s nowhere to be found!
Was it because of that knight guy from before? Did they actually took her away while I was gone?
“Shit!”
Just when I clenched my fist into a sudden fright, the gentle breeze coming from the balcony whooshed through my face.
It was the last place that I did not check. I thought of that and opened the door leading to that comfortable space outside.
And as soon as I did, all of my worries left my body in an instant.
“So this is where you’ve been. Meles, I’ve been looking for you.”
The potted plants on the other side of the deck completely stole her attention.
“Oh, Kansouke, welcome back.”
It took her a moments notice before she finally noticed my presence, which is somewhat impossible with her built in radar. I meant to say that she has a good knack at sensing people, so why did she not realize I was here all along?
When you think about it like that, there must be something that’s weighing in her mind. Something heavy that even an attentive person like her would lose track of their awareness.
“So, what's wrong today?”
I sat down next to her and showed a wry smile.
“Nothing.”
“Nothing? If you don't tell me, I'll be more worried about it. You can tell me what’s bothering you, I won't laugh.”
I placed my palm on her head, running my fingers through her jet-black hair. Although we’ve done it already, I see her more on the lines of a little sister. She’s just too cute to leave alone.
“Umu, it feels good, Kansouke…”
“I’ll pat you as long as you like.”
“Does Kansouke know the name of this plant?”
I smiled as I watch her display her curiosity towards the plants.
“Those plants? Hmm… let me think…”
I focused my senses and closed my eyes…
Suddenly, a surge of electricity passed through my brain.
Cactus
So its called Cactus eh?
At times like these is when I’m thankful to this cursed ability. You must be wondering where I got all of these knowledge flowing inside me. How can a farmer guy be so smart sometimes? Well, it’s because of that. It’s because of those memories implanted on my brain.

Sometimes, I wonder if I really am me. Or this shell of a human body simply a mirage to the—
“Kansouke? Do you know what this plant is called?”
She repeated her question.
Whew, a moment of carelessness and I’m drawn into overthinking. It’s not really myself to be melodramatic, but I can't help it sometimes.
“Yes, its called Cactus, and they are native plants far to the eastern side of the central continent. If you feed them water regularly, they should give rise to beautiful flowers.”
“Hmm, interesting.”
She’s surprisingly well behaved. I thought she would be showering me with questions the moment I got home, but instead, here we are looking at this cactus.
Meles continued on asking me curious questions and I answered them all properly in return. Before we even know it, the sun had started to set in the west.
“Well, lets go back, neh? It’s cold here, we might get sick.”
“Yeah…”
Once we came back inside, we took a bath together.
The rest, don’t ask.
Early morning the next day, we visited Remi on her place, located on the other side of the town. The memories of my first night in Zarc unexpectedly flashed in my mind.
I can’t help but cracked a smile.
“Kansouke? W..Why so early?”
Remi answered the door, still on her sleepwear and multiple cowlicks hanging above her golden hair.
Careless. Too careless.
“I want to take a bath together, that’s why.”
“Weeee?”
I forced my way inside. I did not notice before, but it really is quite the girly room. Starting from her bed sheets all the way through her curtains, everything else were modified.
Is it even allowed to customize a room you rent, or is the inn completely clueless about this?
“Waaaiiit, I'm not ready for this! Stooop!”
“You are acting too hype, I am merely undressing…”
“And that's exactly why I’m telling you, I’M NOT READY YET, YOU JERK!”
*BAM!*
Remi threw me out of the room with a loud bang.
“You beast, you jerk, I hate you!”
*WABAM!*
The door behind me was heavily slammed.
From the inside, I can hear the loud ruckus of things being thrown around.
“Kansouke has a certain thing for Remi, eh?”
“I like her boobs… Errmm, what are you doing here Meles? Didn't I told you to wait outside?”
She crossed her arms and looks down at me, pinkish lips pouting. She really looks like a child like that.
“What’s so good about those useless lumps of fat?”
“They are not useless!”
Apologize! Apologize to her boobs!
………Oh gosh, arguing about boobs isn’t necessarily the best way to spend my energy, so I’ll just be benevolent and forgo.
“Lets just wait for Remi outside.”
“Agreed, if Kansouke stays here, who knows what he’ll do.”
I quickly straightened to my back and left the inn with Meles.
After waiting for few hours, Remi finally came out!
Not minutes, not an hour, but a few hours!
Just what does it take for her to spend that much time inside her room preparing?
“Tsk. You suddenly disappeared last time. Where have you been?”
Remi frowned and asked. She’s not even looking at me too.

“Ahahaha, I was caught up into something disastrous.”
“Did it involved with you messing around with women again?”
“Of course not~”
I went to her back and started massaging her shoulders.
“D-Don't think that’s enough for me to forgive you.”
“Not at all, this is merely service~”
“Hmph. What do you want?”
“Remi, you’re an adventurer right? What kind of quest are available in the guild?”
Since we did not acquire the chance to inquire the receptionist from before, I was left with too many unanswered question.
“Did you not read the paper you signed?”
She frowned again. She must be thinking on the lines that I just signed the form like an idiot without reading the contents. Actually, that’s what happened!
“Unfortunately so…”
“I bet you’re too busy paying attention to that receptionist woman. Am I right?”
“Just look at me. I’m from the countryside, I’m bound to do mistakes here and there.”
“Yeah, you’re definitely right. Is that also the reason why you violated me that night?”
Her words left me speechless.
Looks like Remi’s still keeping some grudge because of what I did. Although I can’t stop thinking that she liked it too! Her reaction from the other day told me so~
“Just explain how the guild works, neh?”
“Hmph. Be thankful I’m doing this for you…”
To make Remi's explanation short…
Being an adventurer has its merits for you gain access to the adventurers' guild connection. An adventurer is ranked by the type and amount of quest they have done. There’s no limit to the kind of quest one can do and the guild doesn’t put restrictions on their adventurers.
Higher rank, higher fame. That’s all there is to it. There’s no discrimination and anybody could go from nobody to V.I.P.
But because there’s no restrictions, a beginner could mistakenly accept a request that is too much for him to handle.
Eventually, that could lead to a careless death. And the guild supposedly make money through our deaths?
What kind of twisted regulation is that?
Still, it’s better than treading on ground you do not have any information of.
That’s the only reason most people signed up— according to Remi. And most clients only trust an important job to a registered adventurer.
“I see, that’s a very useful information indeed. Thanks Remi…”
“Not a problem, in turn, I will come with you.”
"Umm, you’re not thinking of leaving me behind, right?"
Meles opened her mouth selfishly. It’s hard to say why she’s been quiet all this time, but whether that’s in consideration of me or what, I do not know.
She then shot me a piercing look. She’s giving me this overwhelming sense of peril, of being in the mortal trajectory of an arrow.
Her two blood red eyes that were fixated on my hands massaging another woman made me rethink that my current predicament is dangerous rather than perilous, characterized by the uncertainty of how strong she really is.
They did say that once you let fear into your head, it takes up tenancy and will not leave.
Feeling pressured, I was left with no choice but to agree…
“Alright, both of you can come with me.”
With that said, we immediately set our sights to the guild.
I left the two ladies outside and entered the guild by myself.
Because of our previous ruckus, it’s not a good idea to bring Meles to a crowded area such as this one.
“Hai Hai~ Welcome to the adventurers’ guild~”
It’s the same busty receptionist from before. As usual, just right after entering, I had already attracted some gazes. It was indeed a wise decision to leave Meles behind.
“Sorry, its me again.”
I greeted Ms. receptionist with a wide smile. Up close, she’s really bursting with energy. Perfect for one with a job like this.
“Oh, Kansouke~ It’s been a while. In place of those guys that mistreated you before, I apologize.”
She bowed at me again, even though it wasn’t her fault to begin with.
“Don’t worry, I’ve already forgotten about that incident.”
After hearing my predicted response, she raised her head and beamed me a heartwarming smile.
“Then how can I help you today?”
“I wanted to ask you before, but is there any good paying quest that is not dangerous at all?”
With my question, I must seem like an idiot. Because if there is such an easy thing, most adventurer would not hesitate to jump after such an easy job.
Still, there’s no harm in asking.
“Hmmmm…”
She held her chin and tilted her head.
And after an inquiry of silence, she let out a voice, just as if an exclamation mark appeared on her head.
“I think I have one similar to what you want.”
“Really? That would be great then.”
“If you would follow me over here, I’ll show it to you.”
She stepped away from her desk and I followed behind her back. She led me in front of a gigantic signboard, with multiple papers pinned on the wall.
“Heave ho~”
She bent and grabbed a nearby stool, causing me to glue this sinful eyes of mine to her fine ass. Her skirt tightly grasped those round fruits of eden, giving them a much bigger impact.
Looks good~
“Etto…”
After playfully stepping on the stool, she extended an arm to reach one of the papers that’s barely hanging on the far right. The paper shows signs of old age too.
“Here…”
Ms. receptionist jumped off the stool and handed me that very same paper.
“A fairy’s tear… Meet me down at the blacksmith shop for more details… Reward: 1 gold coin…”
I read the contents of the paper out loud.
“What do you think? Pretty easy, right?”
“It sounds easy… Umm, just a question. What is the rank of this quest?”
“If you look at the bottom left of the paper, it'll show you what rank that request is~”
She leaned towards my shoulder and points to that side of paper I needed to read. Coincidentally, I could feel her boobs too.
What size is this… Wait, that’s not the question here.
I stare at the place that she told me about…
The hell?
I can feel my eyes popping the longer I stare...
“Another question.”
“Yes?”
“What rank am I at right now?”
“If I’m not mistaken, Kansouke still hasn’t done a proper quest after that goblin hunt, correct? If so, you’re still at the lowest rank, rank F.”
Her voice felt as cool as a breeze. It passed through one ear and out on the other.
