Chapter 17: Do you know what being eaten by someone feels like?
I thought for sure it would be a night without nightmares, but that peaceful sleep was immediately cut off by the sudden summoning of the mistress of darkness. Once again, I find my thoughts drifting away, leading me to this realm of nothingness. I did not see a strike of light, but suddenly, there was a tiny glow, and a pale light flared around me, revealing a throne.
In the midst of this nothingness is a little girl, no taller than a well grown girl of eight or ten. Her eyes that were too large for her small face were as dark as her skin. Her ominously dark bobbed hair falling to her neck was pretty and tempting, like its inviting me so.
The tremendous and commanding pressure leaking out of this small figure was enough to make me tremble on my knees.
“I call forth the spear of judgement, lighted by the azure flames of hell that will disintegrate this pervert on the ground…”
This little girl started chanting some horrifying words!
Just as she described, an infernal spear waiting to wreak havoc is on standby, floating in the air, and its deadly tip aimed at my sorry ass.
“WAIT!”
“Slam it using titanic force...”
“TERSA!!”
“Shade…”
That gigantic spear rotated, and the azure flames spewing out from it completely engulf the spear whole.
Even though my reaper is slowly approaching in front of my eyes, I am unable to do anything to stop it at all.
“MOTHER!!!”
“—Shift.”
Then, just when I shouted the most sissiest cry I could muster at the top of my lungs, that infernal spear slammed itself on that solid darkness, creating a tiny explosion!
“AGHH!!!!”
Even though that spear toasted me alive and obliterated my body parts, I did not die.
Or more like, I cannot die. In this phantasm world that is.
Not even shedding a tiny speck of blood, my body parts immediately regenerated back to normal. Even my clothes was spared from her monstrosity.
“Tersa, before you start any of this, explain it first! This is beyond barbaric!”
“Hmph, an hour late and you still have the nerve to complain? I beg to differ.”
I just scratched my head after hearing her indifferent reply.
“So, was there something you’d like to discuss? You didn’t call me out here just to kill me repeatedly, right? I hope not.”
And the moment I carelessly joked about death, Tersa closed the distance in a single breath, and ripped an arm.
“—A profound taste.” Tersa began to munch on my arm like it was normal.

“Cmon, give that arm back.” I sighed.
“No~~~”
Her face was bright with amusement, so I just let her weird behavior slide, as usual.
“Joking aside, Elmina was just here.”
“—EMI?!”
It’s as if my heart leaped a little somersault.
“Then why didn’t you call me earlier?”
“You were too busy relieving yourself.”
“—Guk!”
I feel like vomiting blood. To waste my one in a million chance to see My Goddess, I feel like crying. Nevertheless, there’s nothing I can do about it now.
“Did… did Emi mentioned a word about me?”
“Nope, she’s too busy to spend some time worrying about some random pervert who couldn’t even keep his promise.”
“You’re making me want to cry.”
“Blame yourself.”
Tersa’s right. Instead of working on my path to the capital, here I am, wasting my precious time in this forest.
“How many more moons till the predicted summoning?”
“I do not know. My vision had been dark lately.”
“Does that mean… “they” managed to succeed?”
Tersa nodded her head. “It’s precisely the reason why Elmina visited me tonight.”
You must be wondering: How could we humans go toe to toe with demons when they are clearly superior in every aspect? How did we survived the onslaught of overwhelming difference?
The answer is summoning.
From the prehistoric records up till the end of war twenty years ago, humans had made used of these forbidden arts to summon forth “heroes” from another world. Bestowed with the magical prowess rivaling the “Ancient Gods”, these youngsters were known as “Saviors”. Saviors of humanity.
However, a spell of such magnitude is not so convenient to use. Before the Holy Kingdom of Agriasen perished by the hands of demons thirty-four years ago, the royal family managed to perform the art of summoning.
At the cost of sacrificing half of the population present in the capital city, Regulus, they were able to summon an innocent young boy from his modern world called Earth. A boy who knew nothing about the cold reality of war was suddenly entrusted with the fate of humanity.
Donned with artifacts and his magic that far surpassed those of his predecessor heroes, the young man led the counter offensive enroute to the demon lord’s castle. Left and right, demons were massacred and no demon could stop his overwhelming strength. The royal family made use of his name and charisma, striking fear towards the demon race.
Finally, after six years of hardship, the “hero” eventually reached the demon lord’s castle. Surrounded by fire breathing lizards known as “wyverns”, the entrance to the castle itself was already a trial of its own. By sacrificing all that supported his adventure, the hero managed to breakthrough and arrived at the sinister hallways leading to the throne room.

“What lies on the other side of the misty haze?”
Those were the words that left her mouth. The cold hearted voice contradicted its origin. It came from a girl, no, a gorgeous lady, sitting cross legged on her menacing throne in front of him. Other than her horns and her unsung beauty, the hero could not trace a single thing that could make the woman in front of him “demonic”.
“What lies on the other side of the misty haze??” She asked again.
Confused at her question, the hero inclined his head and held his chin, thinking about the truth behind her words.
Was it perhaps a simple trick to confuse him? To make him lowers his guard?
He was positive that he could end her life right where he stands, yet her words stopped his hand from drawing his sword and doing that.
“What lies on the other side of the misty haze?? Hmm…”
As the hero began to think about her words, he remembered all of the cruel things that he had done to reached this place. He foolishly followed the words taught to him, and because of that, he created suffering. Although his intentions were good, his actions weren’t.
Whoever decide that the demons are evil and the humans are just? Furthermore, these demons are living beings too. They eat, work, sleep, take care of their families, and so much more.
The hero ultimately came to a conclusion. After reaching this place, what did he achieve?
Nothing.
The death of his friends and comrades created his pathway, and now he must murder this woman to end the war? Will ending her life really bring the peace that he fought so hard for?
Even if he killed her, someone else will rise up and take her mantle as the demon lord. Even worse, the humans could use this advantage and completely eradicate the demons in the face of these lands.
Just as he was thinking, the sadness accumulating in his heart and his bottled up emotions unconsciously came out of his eyes. He could not stop his own tears. Until all of these madness began, he was just a regular student living a careless life.
“Pfft, can’t believe the man known as “Death Dealer” to be such a crybaby…”
Before he knew it, the demon lord had already entered his zone. If she would start attacking right now, he would be a step too late!
But instead of the dangers that his body had expected, she comforted him through her warmth instead. The hero was comforted by the demon lord.
“Ahaha…”
He threw an unbiased laugh as his mind went adrift, while he enjoyed the warm and soft sensation coming from the beautiful lady that clung to him.
And after those events, the hero disappeared and was presumed to be dead.
Rumors implied that he was killed by the demon lord on their deathmatch at the deepest part of the demon lord’s castle. The human race was once again engulf in a never ending anxiety towards the demon race.
Soon after the death of the hero, the demon’s invasion surprisingly halted.
And after eight years of worrying when the demons will resume their advance, the humans long sought peace finally arrived. The demons signed the peace treaty that was arranged by the Demi-humans, who retained their neutrality towards the end of the war.
This peace treaty marked a new beginning for everybody in the central continent.
How do I know of this story in such detail you ask?
I wonder.
I don’t know why. I just know.
I’m afraid my past self will soon be reflected into reality.
There are times when I dreamt about soaring the skies, leading an army of thousands, and watching “anime”.
Coincidentally, I got the term “loli” from watching that “anime”. Hence I refer to Tersa as a “loli grandma”.
These memories though, however vague, had bothered me since childhood.
“So judging from Tersa’s information, does that mean the royal family had succeeded on summoning a new hero?”
After recollecting a little, I once again returned to reality, inquiring Tersa about our current situation.
“As I said, I could not confirm. That’s why I want you to go.”
“Fear not! Even though I’m but a mere F ranker, I would do my best to see Emi’s dream come to fruition!”
But if all of this is true, then we will have another large scale war in our hands. There could even be a chance that they will capture demons like Meles, ones who are staying in between their country, and use them to their advantage.
Just from thinking about this, I could no longer stay still. I have to hurry and finish this quest as soon as possible.
“Tersa, you could send me back now. It was nice seeing you… again.”
“Hehh… hehe…”
“Why are you laughing?”
This was rare, definitely rare. But to see Tersa laugh is a bad sign.
Now that I noticed it, she completely finished my right arm already.
I took a big gulp. “You’re not planning to…”
She couldn’t stop grinning. “I am. Every bone. Till the last drop of your blood~”
“Eeeek! Spare my eyeballs at least!”
To her, my body was nothing more than a lump of meat.
Do you know what being eaten by someone feels like?!
could be a confusing but nevertheless, i'd love to hear your thoughts~

Thief of Time
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Book 1: The Legend of Tot Synopsis: Claud Primus, a self-declared master thief, has a simple goal. To live forever. It's a rather easy task, for miraculous objects called lifestones are able to extend one's lifespan. These lifestones are best found in the treasuries of nobles, lovely resorts that Claud pays a visit to every so often. Unfortunately, one of those nightly visits go awry, and Claud is forced to escape with just a single lifestone and a box in hand. Normally, that's when things die down. The guards yawn, the gates close, and the night continues. But this time, the night isn't that forgiving. A dozen schemes result in the murder of someone important, and with a convenient scapegoat — Claud — at hand, it doesn't take long for him to be framed as a heinous criminal, wanted for the indirect murder of someone high up...and it just gets worse from there. Book 2: The Moon Lords' Rise Synopsis: As ordered chaos sweeps across Licencia, Claud leaves for Julan Barony, intent on making some profits there. Accompanied by the erstwhile heiress of Julan, a fellow member of the Moon Lords, the two plot against the barony's wealth...as well as a promise to bring about its downfall. Meanwhile, back home, the Moon Lords have busied themselves with digesting their gains. Eyes, however, are beginning to turn to this proverbial fish in a small pond. The fishermen are coming. When they cast their hook, what will Dia and the others do? Book 3: Murders under the Moons Synopsis: In the sleepy town of Nachtville, where Claud and Lily are forced to stop at, a set of nasty murders occurs. Victims scream out in fright, before a spear falls from the sky to end their suffering. Cowed and cautious, the master thief and his partner slink in the shadows, their objective that of home... A new task, however, has fallen on Dia. With a trusty helper at her side, she has to set off towards Nachtville itself, to solve the mystery Claud had abandoned. Faced with an enemy whose sole skillset is geared towards killing, how will they succeed? And what dark secrets will they find? Book 4: In the Dark of the Moons Synopsis: The year has ended. The four months of the full moons will soon be followed by two months of the new moons. Duke Istrel's ascension is around the corner. Amidst this political upheaval, Count Nightfall, Licencia's strongest defender, has been called away. The Moon Lords' largest task yet — to protect Licencia in the absence of its ruler — has begun. And yet, trouble is unrelenting. A distinguished personage, one that Claud fears, has been found dead in the county, his brains dug out and his body disemboweled. The inquisitors of the White Church have been dispatched to investigate and apprehend the murderer...as well as the person behind this puppet. Tormented by a call to fight, Claud directs his eyes out of the city, looking for the puppetmaster. Skulking in the shadows, the master thief will soon confront his greatest foe yet. A foe just like him. Book 5: Moonlit Tides and Darkened Seas Synopsis: A new era has begun. For the privileged, the sands of time dribble away for every passing moment, counting down to the arrival of a entity of mythical proportions. The night now harbours shadows and fog, and operatives of the Moons and the Dark clash in shadow. Claud, as usual, is investigating a spate of nasty disappearances in the city, but little does he know what these disappearances truly mean. And yet, a tide is coming. When it finally breaks, what will he do? Book 6: Secrets in Shadow Synopsis: The person behind a strike that would enter the annals of history flees his home, bringing with him the person closest to his heart into a new land and into a new world. Having left Istrel for the first time in his life, the two of them attempt to settle down in foreign lands, only to be caught in the middle of hostilities between two mighty powers grappling for dominion. Yet, none of that has anything to do with him. Following his desires, Claud eventually makes his way to the fabled Celestia Ruins, a fragment of another world. Bearing witness to truths he cannot yet comprehend, he returns from his exploration, a small break away from the machinations of destiny. One thing, however, is for certain. Destiny will not wait for him. Book 7: Reddest Rage Synopsis: Destiny churns on, heedless of mortal machinations, and Claud watches as the battlegrounds between the Moons and the Dark are drawn up. With the forces of the great Dark occupying Lostfon, Claud comes to a startling realisation — that he may have very well be a murderer of heinous proportions. Grappling with that realisation, he struggles to prepare for his Second Tutorial... Back in Istrel, Dia finds herself confronted with a perennial truth. Even in a time of writhing destiny, the machinations between nobles never cease to end — and unfortunately for her, the group once known as the Moon Lords are forced into dealing with a petty squabble between two counts. What they didn't account for, however, was the startling discovery they would soon make... And the shadow of the Red God's Holy Son behind it all. Book 8: Darkness Descends Synopsis: Nightmares haunt the horizon as Claud sinks and awakens from a seeming dream. What was once illusory begins to play out before him, in a way he cannot imagine. Dia, forced to wield arms, begins and ends a battle that opens her eyes to the vast dangers that lurk in this sundered world. Under the banner of humanity and divinity, she beholds the silent, forgotten protectors of Orb...but there is no forgetting the battle between the divinities. The Dark descends, the Moons writhe, and the horns of war blow once more. But this is not their battle. Not yet. Book 9: Moons Muster Synopsis: As more and more events fall into place, Claud finds himself desperate. Not for himself, but for the person who has turned into his world. Armed with the knowledge of a certain future, he approaches the only person that could possibly help him in his time of need, trading information for a promise of help. With that as solace, he returns to the grim task of understanding and seeking, revisiting an ancient, shattered fragment of another world...unleashing changes that he never knew was possible. Back in Istrel, Dia and the others must now navigate around a familiar spirit, who seeks to investigate the death of his master's Bearer. With them as prime suspects, the Seekers of Life must move carefully...but the Coloured Gods are not the only divinities eyeing them closely. The Moons, bristling from repeated defeats, are looking for new recruits, and the Seekers of Life are prime cannon fodder. Above all, destiny marches on, the unfeeling clock a warning to all. The Trial of Aeons will soon arrive. Book 10: Destiny Divine Synopsis: ??? Release frequency: one every few days or something, I guess.
