《Death's Heir》Chapter 29 : New Tricks

When Azreal was finally about four meters away from the camp he decided to stop because he wanted to try something first.
If it didn't work he'd just charge head first into the camp, quite a few people would be probably escape though and that would only lead to future troubles but if his plan worked he'd be able to kill everyone there.
What he wanted to do was to release his Divine Energy around the camp then ignite it and circle the entire camp in flames so no one would be able to escape.
When Divine Energy is released from the body it just spreads out into the surroundings, only with a certain range could it be controlled once it goes beyond that path it would become increasingly difficult to control.
So trying to force it into one direction would be easy at first but the further the Energy went from his body the less control he would have over it.
But just because it was hard doesn't mean he didn't plan on trying.
Azreal took a seat on the ground with his legs crossed and his eyes closed.
This wasn’t something you could just will to happen, he wanted to get his mind in the best condition possible to carry it out.
At first, he just commanded the energy to move outside of his body for up to ten meters, this was currently the furthest he could spread [Purple Inferno] while keeping control, from that point he slowly inches forward.
The further he pushed his Divine Energy the harder it was to control, it hadn’t even reach thirteen meters but his brows were creased and he began sweating.
It was like holding two long poles in your hands, holding them in the center it wasn’t hard to balance them but as you got close to the ends it would become heavier and harder to hold straight.
~:~
Dustin was hidden in the forest watching Azreal's every move, right now his body had taken the form of air so he had to spread himself out over a few meters to not attract any attention.

Even though he couldn’t be seen in this form if only was perceptive enough no matter what form he took he would be able to hide.
He had been watching everything Azreal had been doing from when he was leaving the camp, at first he thought Azreal had planned on attacking the Alliance camp, he knew it sounded crazy but if Azreal really wanted to destroy the camp then it wouldn't be impossible. He could do it if he wanted anyone of them on the team could but this wasn't some group of bandits these were the soldiers of a nation, and when they found out who he was they wouldn't stop hunting him until they got his head.
Even though Azreal had a powerful backing, to Dustin it didn’t seem like it was something that could be taken Advantage of at the moment, since he was sent out into the world to be tempered.
He felt like he was stuck in a loop not exactly sure what he should do.
After watching Azreal for a while and seeing how he killed the soldiers he was worried and was about to show himself and drag Azreal back but then he saw Azreal staring at the sword so he breathed a sigh of relief in his mind.
'So he just wanted to test the sword....'
At that same moment, something happened that made him feel his skin crawl the sword was absorbing the souls of the dead soldiers, then when he saw the phantoms appear he unconsciously went a few meters back.
When he first saw what Azreal was reading at the blacksmith's shop he hadn't really read it he had just picked out the keyword so now seeing it, of course, he was shock to his core.
'This is bad! Where the hell did he learn Reaper Magic from?....If the council....'
The council had set up the laws that governed the entire Chaos Realm and one of those laws was that no one was allowed to imprison another person's souls for any reason, the souls of the dead would go back to the ‘Chaos’ where they came from.
The only exception to this law was the lord of death and his guardians they were allowed to reap souls as they wished in the Chaos Realm but they never really took advantage of this special privilege that they had.
In the Chaos Realm once you died your souls doesn't reincarnate it just slowly dissipates in the air and goes back to replenish the Primal Chaos, which is the heart of the entire realm so failure to comply with this law would be taken as you waging war against the entire realm and by the order of the council you'd be hunted down and once caught they make sure you suffer a faith fair worst than dying.
So thinking of it that way Dustin's next action could be understood, he immediately turned around and left the area heading backs to the camp, it was almost as if he'd never been there in the first place.
It wasn't that he was a coward but instead he was smart why should he stay there and watch? Wouldn’t that make him an accomplice.
He might’ve been willing to offend Alliance, since they were just a small nation on the grand scale of the entire Realm but to offend the council? They stood above all else! As far as he knew the lord of death himself would go against the council but he a lowly peasant would?
He and Azreal could be considered as acquaintances so why would he put his neck on the line for his?, besides what kind of an existence what the council?
An ant has no qualms with a boot.
..............
Azreal had no idea that Dustin had followed him nor that he'd left and even if he did he wouldn't care, he didn't know about the laws of the council so he didn't really care much.
After trying for over half an hour without being able to progress beyond fourteen meters so he stopped and stood up, he couldn't really figure out a way to do it so after a while he started playing with the purple inferior.
'Huh? It doesn't burn it?.....'
It was only now that Azreal realized that the fire didn't really affect his clothes in the slightest it was just there swaying gently on his clothes.
That was all he really needed to get his thoughts going.
'It doesn't affect things that are attached to me or am I subconsciously controlling it and stopping it from burning my clothes?.....'
It didn't really matter which it was he planned on using it to his advantage all he could do was hope that it would work so looking around for a few seconds he picked up his katana and took a deep breath.
'How should I do this?.....What should I do if it melts?......'
Those were the thoughts that were on his mind at the moment but after a little bit he remembered that the katana was bound to him when it absorbed his blood so it could be a considered as apart of him, so he doubted that it would melt —he hoped it wouldn’t— but still he couldn't help but worry he didn't want to have to go back and order a new one.
Even if he was willing to do that would he ever get another opportunity like this again? Tomorrow he would be leaving with the others to go complete the mission and go back to the city so the chances of staying here again when they were passing to go back was extremely slim.
'Fuck it, there are only five anyways....'
He decided to risk it all

Dungeon's Path
The only places I have posted the story and allow it to exist are on RoyalRoad, Scribblehub, and my Patreon. So the world ended. Whoopsie? We didn’t even see it coming. Quite literally as it came at us faster than the speed of light. Don’t worry though, it got better. Also, I am not joking about the world ending. Most people say that and mean humans are inconvenienced for some reason. Nope, all matter disintegrated at the atomic scale there for a few moments. Apparently the local universe wasn’t actually stable? Don’t ask me to go into too much detail. It would require both of us to have a few more college degrees than sense, and I at least lack them (both the degrees and the sense). Anyway, the energy/matter/wibbly wobbly strings were at a local minimum and not the universal minimum. Basically, what we took for sea level was actually a nice little mountain lake and when the dam busted so did, well, everything. Now here is where things go a bit off track with what normal meant before. You see magic is real, qi is real, gods are real. Not on old Earth mind you but souls pay little attention to time and space so we dreamed of it. In fact, the closer the shift in reality got to Earth, the closer our dreams got to the new reality. This is basically me tip toeing around the fact that it was a ‘System Apocalypse’. Reality became a video game, I became a dungeon, and this is my story. Doyle Huxley just wanted a normal life but as the above might clue you in on that just isn’t in the cards. He gets to experience a “Path Based System Apocalypse” and some early paths he takes, both literally and figuratively, lead to him becoming a dungeon. The aim is to release chapters once a week on Friday. Cursing will be avoided and no naughty adult action will take place in the story.
