[crustaceans go rumble rumble]
*rumble rumble*
Unfortunately for Obsi he was again woken startled, this time around it was the ground shaking and rumbling that woke him.
"Screee!"
For fucks sake can't I wake up normally for once?! This is the deep sea why the hell is there so much noise! I swear to god if this is a volcano...
Obsi grumbled as he made his way out of his newly renovated hole, finding it smaller than when he went to sleep, it still had plenty of room for him. When he was outside he began looking around. Unfortunately the heavy rumbling skewed with his echolocation a little, making it difficult to 'see' around. After a minute of looking and finding nothing near his home he moved on to the carcass, arriving there in 20 minutes instead of the usual 10.
Seems like none of them like the rumbling either, what the hell is causing this, I've never seen a volcano but I don't think it would be like this, without magma and stuff.
The animals around the carcass were busy eating as fast as they could, none bothering to keep to the norm and just eating. Multiple fights had broken out, most likely for the best feeding spot Obsi mused.
But why are the so busy eating? Is something coming? This is a fantasy world so it would make sense for something dangerous to exist, but this? Just some rumbling and they're freaking out... although as they say "when in Rome".
With that Obsi began sneaking around the sharp maws and attacking bulky fishys, scooping them up in preparation to whatever this is. None of the fish took note of him, he even managed to snipe a sharp maw, netting him a new skill 'sneak'.
YOU HAVE EARNED THE SKILL 'SNEAK'
DESCRIPTION: WHEN SNEAKING ENEMIES ARE LESS LIKELY TO DETECT YOU, BONUS DAMAGE AGAINST UNSUSPECTING ENEMIES.
Neat.
In the 20 minutes he had had his little hunt the rumbling had gotten louder and louder untill some of the fish started scurrying away.

Huh? Why are they swimming away? Wait, the rumbling has gotten a lot stronger, don't tell me...
As he thought that he began looking around, finding a spot where he felt the rumbling come. After finding it he made his way towards it. This is utter idiocy but I have to know. And know he did. In a few minutes he started seeing lights, wondering what they were he went closer.
At this point the rumbling was so loud he couldn't see with his echolocation, resorting to using his eyes to see. What he saw he didn't expect. Giant, crawling, Glowing isopods. There were hundreds, maybe even thousands, of isopods and they were crawling towards him. Obsi freaked out, he saw no end to them in either direction and going backwards only delayed the inevitable, but with no other choice he made his way back to the carcass, reaching it in only a minute. When he arrived more of the fish were gone, most of the bulky fishys, half the sharp maw and all of the speedy fishys, only the bone nibblers weren't running away, contently eating away at the exposed bone.
With nothing else to do but to eat Obsi dived in, ignoring any thoughts of being discreet and starting to eat the few bulky fishys left, in but a few minutes the remaining bulky fishys were eaten. At this point the glow of the isopods reached to the carcass, making many of the remaining sharp maw turn tail and run. The few that didn't flee were awestruck by the isopods' glow, some even moving forwards. This left Obsi with ample opportunity to eat at least one of them. Taking only a minute to sneak to it he stroke, the sharp maw still entranced by the glow nearing them. With a final kill Obsi got a new notification, getting him out of his panic and making him think again.

I've been swimming around constantly, why isn't it showing how much stamina I have left?! Whatever, that's not the important part, I have a ton of agility and strength, I should be able to easily outrun the crawlies but that won't work. Think, think... Around them, possible but I see no end to them... Under? Over? Yes! Over! I can go over them! Why didn't I think of that! But will it be safe? They have so many legs, some of them are bound to be able to jump, wait for something else to go over them? But who would be that stupid... Oh. The sharp maw and bone nibblers...
Looking around Obsi found a good place to observe the fishys and isopods. As he watched the first sharp maw reach the isopods he saw the being cut in half in a second. No way am I gonna get close to them. The swipe had gotten the other sharp maw out of their delusions, making them swim back or over the crustacean horde.
As Obsi had suspected they do jump, and they jump high. The ones who went over were gone in mere seconds, although he bet that the isopods weren't fast but powerful, propelling themselves strong enough to reach their target quickly.
Okay, that can be exploited, but first I have to see how many of them are there, no way am I going to jump if there's no other side.
As Obsi thought that he did something he hated the most, swimming upwards. But unfortunately for him his situation didn't allow him to hesitate. When he reached about 30 meters high he looked again. To his dismay the were lots of isopods.
Holy shit. And I thought the front had lot's of them, what the fuck. There's definitely at least ten thousand of them here. No way I'm sneaking over them... Although they don't seem to jump that high, maybe 20-30 meters tops. If I went higher I could go over them... Fuck you isopods, making me swim upwards.
As Obsi mumbled to himself he went higher, reaching about 50 meters from the sea bed.
Just don't think about it. Everything fine and dandy, there's no horde of deadly isopods below you, you're on a nice walk...
He continued to mumble to himself and began to swim, not daring to think about anything else but the other side.
Oh god's above, ground! I love you so much I cold kiss you... Wait no there's isopod shit everywhere.
Obsi had reached the other side, the swim went by quite uneventfully, only some of the sharp maw trying to get over the horde of isopods. He didn't see what happened to the bone nibblers but mused they must have died since they were stupidly stupid.
Now what do I do... I don't have a resting place nor food, I'm quite full but I'll probably just waste it all on growing bigger, stupid body...
As he started looking around again he resigned himself to getting a new home, being quite certain his last one got trampled.
This sucks. There's no outcrops here. New fishys will probably come here to eat all the shit laying around but I don't really wanna eat them... although I only suck out their blood so it wouldn't be that bad. still yucky.
Having looked around for an hour now he decided to dig himself a new hole, choosing the place most clean of shit.
Eight hours... Eight god damn hours and I'm done. finally. I wanna drop down and rest immediately. Yeah I'll do that.
Settling into his new cave he was too tired to notice the small fish already scurrying out to feast on the aftermath of the isopod horde.

But the angry ghost trapped inside the blade has other ideas. Buckle up for the brutal LitRPG ride of a lifetime Savage Hunters is an alternate-world neolothic fantasy. Characters grow their powers with explicit stat blocks presented right in the text, including levels, attribute scores, and unlockable skill trees. Experience is accumulated by battling enormous monsters the size of buildings. Political intrigue and romance elements ramp up as the series progresses. I originally wrote this story after playing Monster Hunter with my niece. She was 12 at the time, already an avid reader, and wanted to read my other published books. I'm a licensed psychotherapist specializing in severe trauma so I tend toward darker fiction. I told her my usual books are too brutal for her but I'd write her something special. The result was this series, which has been praised by both teens and adults for its depth and universal appeal. It begins with an emphasis on cultural elements because I consulted with a trained anthropologist to craft this neolithic setting down to exacting social detail. After these opening chapters, it rapidly shifts to an action-packed adventure. The first 3 books are fully written as of November 2020, totalling approximately 69 chapters. The first book has been professionally edited already. The following two books require some editing which I'll do on a chapter-by-chapter basis as releases progress. I welcome reviews and comments. Writing is a passion, and reader engagement makes my labor all the sweeter.
