《Origin of death》Chapter 17: Hidden forces

At the border of the planet that Amirel and the others are residing in stays a reconnaissance group. The group consists of three beings, two of which are men and the last one is a woman.
Their mission is to estimate the power of the gods inhabiting this place and possibly starting the extermination of all living beings. In case they meet strong opponents, they have to go back to the main army and report.
The one standing in the middle asks the others.
"How is it going?"
Hearing him the only woman in the team says.
"Almost ready"
"As soon as we open the passageway, we enter, walk around and wait for the gods of this world. And then you know, according to plan."
He said this without any emotions. He knows that what they are doing is wrong and evil. They are destroying planets, killing millions of living beings and doing to others the same thing that happened to them. He feels extreme guilt, but he does not regret that. They have no other way of survival than that.
The moment they lost their homes they lost their source of divine energy and without that, they will slowly lose their power and disappear. With that, they were left with only one option, to take energy from other planets by force which causes its destruction. But no one wants to die so despite the guilt they are still doing it.
He is not the only one feeling that way, most of their army thinks the same. There are still a few that enjoy it but those were corrupted and evil even before the fall of their homes.
After a few minutes, the portal opens. They can't see what's on the other side but the very fact that it opened means that they managed to break through the barrier covering this place.

They are targeting newly created planets and not older ones because of two reasons. One is that a natural barrier protecting them gets stronger with time and the possibility of powerful gods inhabiting it are high. In short, it might be too risky.
"Ready. Let's go."
They pass through the portal. On the other side, they levitate a few dozen meters above the wast forest. After a few minutes, they get to the ground and start walking around the forest.
"Now we wait for the hosts to show up."
Suddenly they hear a voice behind them.
"I will make great trophies out of you"
The leader turns around and the last thing he sees is a beautifully decorated axe.
In another realm, Delphyne felt invaders entering the world. He opened his multicoloured reptile eyes, raised his head along with his snake body and took a look in the distance.
"Fucking idiots"
After saying that he took humanoid form and entered the passage to the mortal realm.
Meanwhile, Amirel is talking with the Order.
[Get ready, I'll open the passage in a moment.]
"I get it."
Amirel takes his cup and stands next to the place where the portal should appear.
[Lets a go!]
"Ah... You and your jokes"
After a while, a portal appears. He comes up to it and looks at it. It looks like a high steel gate engraved with many symbols, a frame is made with countless skulls of various creatures.
Then he goes through a portal and arrives in the forest. On the other side, he notices that stars disappeared while the sky has turned grey.
From behind a tree appears a red-haired man with snake-like eyes. He immediately knows that he is Delphyne.
"Ok. So now that you are here we need to go for a little bit. Enemies are nearby and they seem to be weak so it shouldn't be a problem to take care of them."

Amirel hearing this explanation remembered something he wanted to ask.
"Can you tell me why me? You know that my presence here is affecting the balance. You could have taken Nature for this."
Order only smiled at that.
"Ahranjani is currently waiting hidden in ambush nearby, she will only help if something goes wrong. Even if they are weaker than us we shouldn't underestimate them."
Amirel nodded his head signalling that he understood.
"Makes sense."
After less than a minute they arrived in a place that the enemies should have been in. Unfortunately what they witnessed were three corpses that were slowly turning into dust.
Amirel afraid of their souls escaping in an instant used his powers and took their souls that have yet to dissipate. The souls entered his chalice while screaming.
"What the hell happened here? I used the word 'hell' right?"
Hearing that Amirel doesn't care about these corpses smiles wryly at him.
"Eh.. yes. Come let's see what is it about."
They get near corpses and search around them and consult with each other about their findings.
Meanwhile, Amirel is taking drinking from his cup.
"So, looking at the fact that I was able to get their souls they died at max a few minutes before."
Delphyne nods at this and says.
"All of them had their head cut off and taken away. Looking at their necks I can tell that it was done by one fast slash of some sharp tool."
"So if this wasn't Nature or us it means that there is someone strong here and it shouldn't be a monster."
Delphyne turns to Amirel.
"You sound like you have some idea who that is."
Hearing that Amirel smiles.
"Indeed. Only one word...Power."

Necromancer and Co.
In a time before the existence of the present, the gods decided to create a plane of existence where all their creations could exist in the same place. In it, all would be fair, and all gaps between races and technological advancements could be crossed with a single system that the gods had created. Every year, the gods would choose a new race to put in their land, and in this new group of beautifully unlucky people, Alen, his friends, and a few people from Earth have finally met their turn to be tossed into the playground of the gods. Unfortunately though, Alen was thrust into a forest of corpse-eating bears and horribly smelly undead on his first day, one of the many danger-zones of the continent the gods had chosen to throw them in. It would be easy to say that he simply died within the first day, or that he'd starved to death or whatever, but let's be honest... That story would be no fun to tell, yes? (Re-write of my first fiction with the same name.)
