《The Divine Gemstones》Prologue: Awakening (Volume 2: Brotherhood ↓↓↓)

Weeks passed after I woke up from my coma. Fuji talked about everything I should know, like, singularities, different races, the mystical war, the apocalypse, and many other things I should keep in mind. She also said that I should stay hidden for as long as I possibly can; if I was found, I was sure bound to be killed, so my name is now Kaiser; Rukito is now in the past…
I found myself getting easily irritated and annoyed by most people, but Fuji was one of the few people that I didn’t mind talking a lot to. One of the few people that I actually cared about, Fuji and her three children. Yes, she has three children, two boys, and one girl. Ralon, Ethan, and Maya. They are all the same age, she must have had triplets, but she insists on not telling me who the father is.
We were stationed in a church in the east of South Greenterra. Fuji was the maiden that cleaned it every day, so she was allowed to be here for free with her children. Now that I split the continent in half, there’s South Greenterra, and North Greenterra, I really made a mess… luckily, the coasts were safe since strong people from the military used their singularity to stop the tsunamis and ease the earthquakes.
The Greenterra king has a sister, so she became the queen of North Greenterra since the former king resides in the south, he can’t control north from south, so he sent his sister north so she could rule the north continent. N.A.O.S was open in North Greenterra, which stands for National Academy of Singularities, with the principal of the whole school and district being a famous girl named, Shizuka Aizawa. By what I’ve heard of her, she seems to be an intelligent woman; not only that, but she holds the title of the most beautiful girl in the world ranked by the national beauty contest. She is an angel after all.
I decided that I was ready to find these gemstones, but before I started my solo journey, I needed to recover some of my memories; I really want to know what brought me to the point of doing such horrible things. I was meditating this whole time in my room, but I can never stay focused. The door slowly creaked open, and I heard a voice saying,
“Rukito!- I mean, Kaiser! I just found out something about you.” It was Fuji’s voice. She entered the room and added, “Your singularity is broken… I don’t think you can use it anymore.”
“Hmm… that sucks. I really wanted to start fighting, my body feels rusty.”
“But I also have good news!”
“Hm?” She walked away, grabbed a big silver case, and brought it to me.
“I’ve been working on this for years…” She said as she opened the case, revealing a white gauntlet with a futuristic look.
“What is this? It looks amazing.”
“I haven’t given it a name yet. It’s just called, ‘Prototype Silent.’”
“What does it do?”
“I used red laser manipulation to form the shape of a blade. As of this version, it doesn’t melt things, but it does cut and burn. The blade comes out of the top of the gauntlet, so you don’t have to worry about losing the grip of the sword.”
“Wow! That’s amazing, Fuji!” She giggled and said,
“That’s not all, it can also activate a smaller, but sharper blade at the bottom of the gauntlet that can assassinate people in an instant, not only that, but you can also launch that blade from the bottom and control it in mid-air, kind of like a ballistic knife.” I walked up to her and gave her a hug of appreciation.

“Thank you so much! You have done too much for me.” She hugged me back while smiling and said,
“Don’t mention it.”
“by the way, how do you have such advanced technolog-” As we were hugging, her three children ran up to us and said,
“AAAH! Mommy and Mr. Kaiser are together!”
“Beat him!” The boys started lightly punching me while Maya pulled Fuji away. These kids were around the age of four. Fuji giggled and said,
“Weren’t you all playing outside?”
“Yes, but we are hungry!”
“Alright-alright. Excuse me, Kaiser.” She said while looking back at me, slightly blushing of embarrassment.
“That’s alright, I’ll see how to use this gauntlet.” Fuji left with her children. I sat on the bed with the gauntlet and started playing around with it. I ended up almost cutting the bed in half, opening holes in the ceiling, and burning myself quite a bit, but in the end, I managed to understand how it works… well, just a bit.
I looked down to my necklace, opened it, and saw this picture of this gorgeous girl again that I’m guessing was my sister. I promise… I’ll remember you. Are you still out there? Maybe she is also looking for me. I need to find someone that can help me remember all of my past memories… but who can that person be? She must have a strong magic flow.
Shizuka Aizawa… maybe she can help me. But how is a nobody like me going to meet with her? Perhaps I can go to this academy and see if I can to talk her face to face, she must be the strongest one, so she has to know how to help me, if not, one of her students might have a healing singularity that can help my problem. I don’t want to leave Fuji by herself though. Or perhaps I should… I can bring many issues to her if they find me here. I should probably talk to her.
I walked out of my room and went to the second floor. Fuji was cooking. Meanwhile, I tried to slowly walk up behind her and scare her for fun, but as soon as I got close to her, she turned around, looked at me with her pink eyes and said,
“Hey, something wrong, Kaiser?”
“H-huh?! How did-” She instantly looked around my whole body with an incredible eye movement speed.
“You burned yourself?! You dummy!” She grabbed my wrist and pulled me back to the dining table. I sat down, she dipped a towel in cool water and gently started applying it on the burns.
“You don’t really have to… I’m fine.” I mumbled. She looked up to me with a serious expression and pressed the towel harder. I felt a sudden pain of a thousand needles piercing me in the same spot. “Ah! What the hell?!”
“See? You’re not fine. Stop acting so tough, it can get you killed.”
“S-sorry…” I mumbled once again. She took bandages and wrapped my arms with them.
“So, you wanted to tell me something?”
“Yeah… but first, how do you have access to such advanced technology?”
“Uhm… it’s a long story for another day.”
“Are you an angel?”
“No, I’m not an angel.”
“A devil?!”
“Negative.”
“A cloud elf?”
“Nope. I’ll tell you another time.”
“Well, whatever, I still care about you either way.”
“T-Thanks.” She said while smiling. I was fortunate about the fact that she was the one who found me. If it were anyone else, I would have been dead.

“Secondly, I’m going to leave today. I’ll be making my way up to the North Continent to meet with Aizawa, if not, I’ll search for someone in the academy that can help me recover my memories.”
“Oh…” She frowned, looked down, then said, “Are you sure that is what you want to do, Kaiser?” I laid my hand on her shoulder and said,
“I appreciate everything you have done for me Fuji, but I need to go and recover my memories. After I do, I promise I will come back. You and I will look together for the Divine Gemstones, ok?”
“That’s something dangerous to put my children through… I just want you to come back safe, Rukito…” I smiled, hugged her and said,
“I’ll come back in one piece, I promise. But first, I also want to eat your perfect cooking!” As we were hugging again, the children ran up the stairs, saw us, and yelled,
“Kill him!” I started chuckling as I was getting filled with a barrage of punches.
I ate, then started packing my stuff in a backpack to get ready and leave for North Greenterra. I still had that painite crystalis ring I woke up with. I haven’t used it since it would attract too much attention, but at this point, I need the money to travel. I also needed an outfit that kept me on a low profile. Maybe something with a hood that doesn’t have any strong colors like red and yellow. I went outside and saw Fuji waiting for me at the exit of the church.
“Hey, Kaiser.”
“Yes?”
“I also wanted to give you one last thing before you go, it will help you go through your journey without being noticed much.”
“What is it?” We both walked away under the church through a secret passage. “What is this place?”
“I found this little passage when I first arrived here. It was never discovered by anyone, but unfortunately, it didn’t have anything. But I did find a spot where to put the important things that I used to use.”
“Wait… so this gauntlet that you gave me… you used to use it?”
“Yeah, it has never failed me.” I was starting to get more and more curious. I really wanted to know who Fuji was, but I respect her decisions, so if she wants to wait to tell me, then so I shall wait. She opened a chest that was at the end of the corridor. Grabbed what seemed to be one of those robes that priests and high nuns wear. They were white with a big hood that covered their face from the sun, making a dark shadow envelop someone’s face.
“Why are you giving me this?”
“This is not just a normal priest robe; this robe changes color based on the surrounding to camouflage yourself. If you are in a city with many people passing by, it will turn white disguising yourself as a priest. If you are in the night, it will turn black to almost be unseen. If you are in a forest, it will turn dark green to seem like a cloud elf. If you are sailing on an ocean, it will turn dark blue to make you seem like a captain.”
“W-wow…” This advanced technology... how can she do this?
“The robe is designed in a certain way that just changing the color will make it look like different but similar styles being used by already existing people. If you want to deactivate it and just leave it on the default color, which is white, just don’t put the hood on. Without the hood, the robe color shouldn’t change color, it will actually turn into a normal hoodie jacket to make you seem like a normal person, but it will not hide you as well.”
“Is this all from your singularity?!”
“I told you already that I don’t have a singularity, this is all advanced technology.”
“But… why do you have things like this? I would never expect such a charming and peaceful girl like you to have deadly things like these.”
“That’s the point… I used to live a bad life that I didn’t like, Kaiser. But after I decided I wanted children, I had to leave all of those things behind, and start a new life. I’ll tell you once you come back.”
“Ah, I see. Well thank for all of this, it will sure help me on my travels.”
“You’re welcome. The outfit should automatically morph into your body size, so don’t worry if it look s a bit too short. I used to wear it after all.”
“Ok.” She went through her pockets, and said,
“Also, get this.” She gave me a fake I.D with the name Kaiser Chisei, and a picture of me with my new hair and eye color. On it, it said that I was 19 years old.
“I’m not even going to ask how you manage to get this at this point… but thanks. And, I’m 19 years old?”
“Yes, with your DNA I managed to get an exact date of your birthday. You were born on January 17th, 3300.”
“Well damn, I applaud you. I’ll be putting this robe on then.”
“Ok.” I walked back up to my room, put the robe on, and as soon as I was putting on, it stretched to my body size, but then instantly turned into a white hoodie. “Woah! This is so weird!” But I liked how it looked. I walked out once again to the exit of the church where Fuji was looking at me while smiling.
“What?” I asked.
“You look like as if you were my twin.”
“You have one?”
“No, but now I do!” Outside it was already starting to get pretty dark, so I decided to hurry up. I hugged her one last time and said,
“Goodbye, Fuji.” She hugged me back and responded,
“No. See you later, Kaiser. Come back safe. Call me time to time!” I started walking away as I put my hood on while the hoodie turned black together with my gauntlet, and then morphed into a robe, stretching the bottom of the jacket and making the hood bigger. This was going to be a very long journey… I can already see it. What does the future have in store for me? Is it good, or bad? Life or death? Love or hate? The only way for me to find out is to keep walking forward. Just like Fuji once did with this same robe.

Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.

Re-Ordaining of the Chosen
Alea cheerfully hummed as she descended the steps, brimming in upbeat while her colleague, Quarren Leos, shot her a look of skepticism. “So… were you right about him?” he asked doubtfully. She came to a stop for a moment, her humming falling silent before she shook her head, waving her medium length light-blonde hair from side to side. “I was wrong about him.” Quarren raised an eyebrow in confusion at the convoluted response.“But you seem quite happy?” he asked again. “Because I am. But I was wrong about him. He was… so much more than I ever expected.” Alea looked at the sky overhead with a smile. “That boy… no, that man, is amazing. I firmly believe he will come to stand on top of any adversary he faces. He is destined. He is Chosen.” Quarren snorted as he stepped past, shaking his head. “Okay. Each to their own beliefs but you’re sounding like a nutjob. That skinny twig? Everyone calls him a cripple, you know,” he shook his head.“Rumours are always false, Leos,” Alea answered with a disapproving shake of her head. “You wouldn’t know. He is so, so much more.” “I saw him with my own two eyes. I didn’t see anything redeeming,” Quarren rebutted. “Well…” Alea chuckled. “You haven’t seen what I’ve seen.” In the year 917 of the Imperial Calendar, the Great War had just ended between dozens of nations. All were ecstatic when the current generation of the two Archduchy's, after the war, agreed to let their children wed. The excitement was short-lived however when the Aerianne Princess proved to be a dragoness among men but the Kanarian Prince was worse than even mediocre. The Prince disappeared and the wedding was shortly forgotten as society lived on. Until one day the Young Heir of Kanaria returned to Farrien a changed man, bringing demise with him.
