《Madness with a touch of sanity》Chapter 7: Shopping, Party

I woke up on a bed covered in grime, my clothes had rubbed the dirt and blood off on it whilst I slept, and I felt sticky, In hindsight, it may have been a bad idea to fight monsters in a fancy, now brown, dress. I would ask the guild receptionist to recommend a place to find clothing later, and perhaps look for a sword, or other bladed weapon, in the blacksmith.
I left my room and locked the door as I went down the stairs, the receptionist nodded to me as I left, the streets outside the inn had a patrol of guards and hounds that I had not seen previously patrolling, they seemed to be holding paper and occasionally lifting it up to compare people to it, this mask may have been a bigger lifesaver than I had expected, but the risks of staying in this city are growing faster than expected.
I snuck behind the patrolling guards and headed to the guild, the receptionist was in the middle booth, but they smiled and waved at me as I walked in, I pointed and tugged at my clothes as I approached them.
"Hey, looking for a new set of clothes? guess what, you can purchase basic equipment from the guild, this includes, but is not limited to, robes, boots, staffs and wands, basic armour, weapons and a peculiar hat" Their eye twitched slightly before their shoulders slumped completely down "Sorry, I'm contractually obligated to say that to new adventurers... I'm a woman by the way, you'd be surprised how few people figure that out"
I continued tugging at my clothes until she motioned for me to follow her, eventually going into a room behind the desks covered in equipment at random "Choose what you want, you should be able to afford any set and still have enough for a weak potion"
There was a few pieces that stood out, a full body robe coloured in bright yellow could be seen glaringly through the other robes, and I picked it up, it's not that I enjoyed the colour, it's too thick too, It would be unimaginably hot it the robe, but it's the only robe that has traces of mana embedded into It's thread. I laid it down on the desk and went to look at shoes, my eyes twitching continuously as I searched, but only one pair contained any mana, a pair of neon pink bunny slippers.

After recovering from a near mental breakdown, I continued searching for a pair of gloves, only to find another horrendous mockery of fashion, a pair of dark green oven mitts decorated with tiny screaming faces. At some point I had gotten onto the ground and started rocking back and forth, weeping, and stayed there for a few minutes, contemplating the need for aesthetics over use, but eventually decided it needed to be more useful, no matter had terrible it would look.
I dragged myself over to the counter to purchase my 'goods', to the shock of the receptionist "Okay, sure, we haven't been able to sell this stuff for years, so great, marvellous, tell you what, just so you don't change your mind, I'm going to throw in the last piece of the set, the hat, although it's more like a helmet"
She put the 'hat' on the table and prostrated herself before me, the hat was a large multi-coloured mushroom, complete with a weird smell and a sticky texture, I took the chance to dress myself in the horrendous items of clothing I had purchased, and immediately realised something, everything fit perfectly to my body, it was a pleasant temperature, and I could see through the mushroom.
I no longer needed the mask so I sold it for a few copper, and followed the receptionist back to the desk, she looked tired, but handed me a scroll "Here, we don't normally do this, but you deserve this more than most, just tell me how the weather is and you will recieive thirty silver"
I almost spoke, was that the intention? I may have underestimated her "What's the matter, not in shock, are you? I know it's a lot of money for a G class, but trust me, you would be able to make this amount of money in two weeks if you really tried, so come on, speak up"
Never mind, I'm more angry at myself for believing her to be competent, but she is just as much a mouth-breather as usual, I produced a fireball and held it in the air above my head, pointing at it "Wow! what an amazing skill you have, I've never seen such a large elemental spell before, but why are you showing me that, that must cost a lot of mana to maintain"

"Oh for Ams's sake, if you were any thicker, you could use your head as a shield, she's trying to say it's sunny outside" the male human receptionist lightly hit the back of her head and pushed her aside "I'm sorry about her, she's new, and we are currently understaffed, so she never really completed her training... and she's just genuinely stupid, yes"
He handed me the silver from the contract and pointed towards the bar "I wouldn't usually say this to a little girl, but go into the bar, the request board is in there, you can accept G and F class requests, but you should be able to rank up pretty quickly, anyway, she's not very good at her job, but I recommend asking her anything about the city or good shops to visit, she's surprisingly helpful in that respect"
I started to leave about half-way through his speech, and turned towards the blacksmith next-door, and entering through the sliding white doors, I could see the heat rippling in the air, but I felt comfortable in the new clothes "You lost lass, don't see a lot of mages in ere"
The blacksmith was tall and covered in soot, his upper arms were thick and bulging, much like his yellow eyes, and the tips of his webbed fingers and toes, odd green stripes could be seen between the heavy layers of black soot that settled on his sticky yellowish skin, he held a small pipe in his large mouth and spoke in a thick dwarfish accent. "What! Surprised to see a from-man in such a hot place, well don't be. Now what do you want? I don't have a lot of time fer yer type"
I walked up to a slightly flat dagger with a small hilt and picked it up "Ah, that explains it, want something to hide up yer sleeve eh, good choice. Tell you what, it's not my best work, and it's only made of iron, so I'll give it to you for eight copper, but if you buy another of the same type, only thirteen copper"
I grabbed another of the flat knives and strapped one to each of my forearms, then handed the frog-man his copper, then I turned around to see three people blocking my exit.
One was a blond pretty boy with perfectly coiffed hair, white skin, polished iron armour and a long sword at his waist, the man beside him was dressed in a monk's robe and held dark wooden beads, he was bald and covered in small scars with dark chocolaty skin, and his eyes were closed, and lastly was the girl, she was an elf of about average height, with green eyes and hair, and slightly tanned white skin, she wore light leather armour and held a bow on her back, nothing particularly remarkable about her stood out, except for her abnormally large breasts.

The Court of Souls?
What do we talk about tonight?~“How about a story?”~Fine by me. Which story? Hopefully a good one.~“There was once a lonely child in a world filled with myths, gods and demons. Only power counted there and the weak were worse than cattle. A world where survival of the fittest ruled.”~Was it strong then?~“No, but the child had a power. One that made him stand between light and darkness. Nothing could escape him, so he was shunned by his people.”~ What did he do? Did he fight his fate? Did he hide his power? What was it?~“Oh, he fought. He fought a lot. And no thing could escape his power. It was something that everyone had to live with.”~So he became a hero and changed the world?~»…”~Tell me.~“Nooo, that’s not how the story goes. This isn’t a story of a noble man, doing good amidst a sea of monsters. This is a story of a demon who was… kinder than the rest.”~A kind demon? How boring.~“I think it would be better if I tell the story, so you can judge for yourself.”~So tell the story!
