《The Magic Swordsman》Chapter 5

An unexpected encounter in the forest
The Araan Forest abounded many beasts and monsters. That forest was not as risky as the Rockberry Forest, but varieties of different species nested in there due to the fertile environment of the woods.
Entering The Araan Forest, Theo, Elena, and Clark attentively monitored their surroundings as Theo checked at his map radar. Multiples red dots with the identities of the creatures indicated on the map radar helped them to avoid contact with dangerous animals such as wild boars, wild wolves, and wild bears.
"By the way, Theo. Why the forest?" Clark asked as they followed Theo.
"Don't you want to become stronger? It's the best and quickest way to strengthen ourselves" Theo answered in return as he keeps looking at the map radar.
"But isn't that dangerous?" Elena inquired.
"Don't worry. I have a skill that can monitor our surroundings. And besides, a real fight experience helped more than practical experience." Theo pointed out.
Passing through many trees, Theo suddenly stopped walking.
"We've finally arrived!" Theo exclaimed as he showed a joyful expression on his face.
In front of them, was a small grass field surrounded by trees. And on the herbs, countless slimes were sunbathing in that area.
"Slimes are the best training partners to earn fighting experience. On top of that, it's the less dangerous monsters within the forest." Theo revealed as he unsheathed his wooden sword.
"Aren't horned-rabbits supposed to be better opponents compared to slimes? They at least, move faster than slimes." Elena suggested as she unsheathed her wooden sword.
"Horned-rabbits are too swift for us I think. They'll probably dodge all our strikes, and they'll rather run away instead of fighting." Clark said.
"Clark's right. Even though it's better to fight horned-rabbits, we aren't good enough. Slimes are the best choice. You guys ready for the hunt?" Theo asked.
"Yeah!" Both exclaimed.
"Let's go!" Theo said as he charged towards a slime in front of him.
*****
Three hours have passed since Theo, Clark, and Elena hunted slimes.
At first, they took over five minutes to kill a single slime. Their strikes were not strong enough to slice through the body of the slime, and since its core moved according to its will and instinct, it was even harder.

But after getting used to their slow movements and how they reacted depending to the sword's strikes, they slew them more rapidly. In the end, they defeated quite a few of them during those three hours.
Satisfied by the result, Theo looked at the sky. The orange scenery above him made him realised that it was already quite late.
Turning his head towards Clark and Elena, Theo said, "It's getting late, let's head back to the village."
Nodding their head, Elena and Clark sheathed their wooden sword.
But they were about to leave the grass field. They noticed Theo staring in another direction. There was absolutely nothing in that direction. But they both have an ominous feeling about it.
And as they thought, they heard something running towards them louder and louder. It was a four-legs beast, and a huge one on top of that since the noise was loud enough to shake the earth.
When the four-legs beast came into sight, Theo, Clark, and Elena no longer remained composed. Theo already identified what kind of beast would arrive through his map radar but didn't predict the corpulence.
"An adult wild boar!" Clark exclaimed, alarmed.
An adult wild boar differed from a normal one. Four or Fives times bigger, they reached one half the size of an adult human. For Theo, Clark, and Elena, it was comparable to a small rabbit standing in front of a big wolf.
'Identify!'
Name Adult Wild Boar Race Beast Level 15 Status Healthy EXP 0/100 Health 600 Mana - Strength 30 Agility 21 Endurance 10 Vitality 15 Wisdom 2 Intellect 1 Luck 0 Charisma -5 Unique Skills ≪Boar Language≫ Lv. ≪Thick Fur≫
Lv. 2 Magic Resistance Fire 0% Water 20% Earth 10% Wind 0% Light 0% Dark 0%
Using the skill 《Identify》, Theo stared at the adult wild boar displeased. The beast standing there was level 10, and his stats couldn't compare to the three of them. The difference was way too huge.
But right now, they couldn't escape the incoming fight. If Theo, Clark, and Elena were to leave the field grass, other monsters and beasts were awaiting them, and it was too dangerous to leave that grass field without looking and the map radar.

Besides, an adult wild boar's speed surpassed their own and could catch them back fast enough. Thus, without any choices remaining, the best one available was to fight.
Unsheathing his wooden sword, Theo resolved himself to fight against that huge wild boar. Clark also drew his weapon as well after seeing him doing so.
The only one to remain paralysed by the beast was Elena who's legs were trembling. She experienced her first real battle a few hours ago, but fights against slimes and one against an adult wild boar differed too much. She didn't have the same courage as Theo and Clark.
Seeing his enemies unsheathing their weapons, the adult wild boar no longer remained still. Using his skill 《Charge》, he charged towards the easiest prey, Elena. He neared her in the blink of an eye without giving both, Theo and Clark, the time to respond correctly.
Even though the beast didn't have high intellect, it was logical for him to target the weakest prey before targeting the strongest ones.
Noticing that Elena was too frightened to move, Theo ran towards her and saved quickly her. The boar was nearing them with unbelieved speed, but since he was too far, it was still manageable for Theo to save her in time.
The adult wild boar couldn't stop his charge, he crashed into a tree and blocked his defences into it. Trying to get out of the tree, the defences of the boar were perfectly stuck, and he, unfortunately, couldn't succeed to get out.
"The boar is stuck on the tree. Let's escape now!" Clark shouted.
Regaining her composure thanks to Clark's shout, Elena stood up with the help from Theo, the three of them left the grass field.
Thus, with Theo's help, they managed to leave the forest without encountering any beasts or monsters.
*****
As Theo, Clark, and Elena returned to the village, Theo was looking at his character profile dazzled.
Name Theo Regnard Race Human Level 8 Class None Title [The Gamer], [The Reincarnated],
[The Fallen Prince], [The Fallen Noble],
[The One Who Was Cursed By The Demon God] Status Cursed EXP 0/100 Health 150 Mana 50 Strength 7 Agility 5 Endurance 7 Vitality 3 Wisdom 5 Intellect 12 Luck 3 Charisma 7 Unique Skills ≪Menu≫ Lv. Not only did he learned the active skills ≪Charge≫, and ≪Intimidating Eyes≫, but he also levelled up from the level 3 to the level 8 after running away from the adult wild boar.
'How did I levelled up?' Theo thought.
Only by killing the adult wild boar then Theo could level up. Which mean that there was only one explanation of what happened to the adult wild bear; someone else killed it after that he got stuck on the tree.
'But who?'
"What's wrong Theo?" As Theo was still thinking about it, Clark asked him.
"Nothing..." Theo muttered.
"Are you feeling better now Elena?" He then turned his head towards Elena and asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine now. Thank you." Elena answered.
"Sorry, because of my idea, I endangered both of you..." Theo said.
"It's fine. We also got stronger and faster than we planned." Clark responded as he smiled at him.
*****
In The Araan Forest, in the grass field area.
"Thanks to those kids, I managed to catch an adult wild boar for free." A man said as he stored the adult wild boar inside his bag storage.
"I should head to the village to express my thanks to them." He muttered as he directed towards the village of Araan.

Shift (Ben 10+DCU Fanfiction)
Omnitrix+ DCU, what's not to like? The main character will not be Ben Tennyson, rather someone from our world who gains the Omnitrix Hello! This fanfiction Shift is what I wanted to do for an homage to what I thought were underrated pieces of media, Ben 10 and some DCU characters. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t add context to two of the major works that inspired Shift, Dial, and A Practical Guide to Evil. Dial is another ben 10 fanfiction, however that story takes place in the MCU, and with an adult that is already a grown-up at the beginning of the story. Dial, by my own accounts, is more superficially Like shift, even though the Omnitrix is a central device in both. My protagonist starts out around 18 years old, so is less serious and can build relationships with some of the junior justice league members, and then later on in the story meet the Justice League officially. The tone will be more light-hearted at the beginning of the story as teenagers are known to use sarcasm and jokes at each other’s expense. Furthermore, in Dial, the protagonist has a well-developed knowledge of the MCU which he uses to have knowledge on events and characters, that the character in Shift will not have. While the MC will have some knowledge of people's abilities, lesser-known characters and people's real identities will be not included as much, but the MC of Shift will have some knowledge. APGTE's influence is deeper than Dials'. The epigraphs at the beginning of every chapter are an example of that, a place for light-hearted jokes and worldbuilding that's not pure exposition, but I also want to incorporate narrative stories to Shift (heroes win more than lose, providence, etc) on a lighthearted scale. While the heroes of Shift will have to work to win against villains, the MC of Shift will be allowed limited precognition, through narratives tropes and archetypes as a trade-off of less knowledge of the DCU. For example, a villain a hero faces might monologue, but the MC will not instinctively know how to counter every villain they encounter. I also wanted to bring in more realism than usual superhero stories, ie: the MC cannot just walk and have a meeting with Batman or Superman, he would have to “work his way up” in terms of credibility and whatnot. The Aliens that show up in Shift I tried to make different than the ones in Dial, just to share the love for lesser-known characters. And to make it fairer for the villains of the DCU, the main character will not wantonly use if gain at all an Alien X or a ben 10 form of Kryptonians, just so the characters have to work a little bit for victory. I urge anyone reading to consider checking out both APGTE and Dial as they are both amazing works, and I hope you enjoy them. The beginning of how the MC enters the DCU will not be as important as him actually existing in that universe, so that is why a ton of time is not spent on that part of the story. Chapters will be around 2.5 thousand words and come out around every weekday.
