6 days after the explosion - The palace

Elena was resting in her room she shared with Aria. Well, if she wanted to, she could have an individual room to herself since there were enough empty rooms in the palace, but after she saw the mess she was the first day, she didn't have the heart to leave her alone in the room and it was kind of hard to leave her after. Beside, it not like she was having a bad time there, since at least the girl was fun to spend time with as long as she wasn't depressed or angry at something.

The room had two beds, one to the left where Aria sleep and Elena's bed to the right. They put their stuff near their own beds, dividing the room in two half. Elena's half had mostly cloth and some personal items while Aria's side had her armor, some training cloth and surprisingly a doll(it turns out she couldn't sleep without it).

Elena was alone in the room since Aria woke up early to train, like she did every morning, and Elena was thinking about everything that has happen the last few days.

It had being a mess from the start. She never believe it that the prince would get the throne(and every one else too) so she didn't find it strange that she could get to be a prince fiancé. And if she had to be honest with herself, she knew she liked the prince so she was happy when she got to be his fiancé, and she didn't mind never becoming queen.

But even if she liked the prince, she couldn't stand the way he acted. It was ok to give up the throne since the competition was great, but it's a different thing to give up on life. He took every opportunity he could get to skip lessons and events he found annoying, he spend most of his time reading books or experimenting ways to fail at alchemy(It was a public secret he did it on purpose)and she even found out 2 days ago he could sneak to town and he probably did it a lot. She also knew that his plan in life was to leach on his family money for the rest of his life, and maybe become a state governor and live of the taxed from the citizens

And to make it all worst, his actions didn't improve after becoming crown prince. He was still trying his best to scape work, delegating most of it to the 3 advisors of the crown(duke,general and arch mage),expending most of his time outside and even sneaking into town to drink and do who knows what else. But what probably anger her the most was that it almost look like he was building a harem, almost every day a new girl was follow him around. She new it wasn't his fault(probably) and none of the girls really like him(only his niece but not in a romantic way) but all this has started to build a lot of stress on her mind.

She thought on apologising a couple of times for the constant mistreatment, but his stubborn personality(and hers) and his constant smugness make it really hard, and not changing one bit, no matter how much she insisted, didn't help also. So instead of trying to change him, something that had gone unsuccessfully for the last 8 years, she always end up taking the frustrations the prince gave her back to him.

She stayed in bed for a while and thought what she should do now. She couldn't let the prince do whatever he wanted like always, but even if she knew what he shouldn't do, she didn't know what he should do. She thought he should at least try to take care of the country instead going around doing nothing and even if someone from the royal family show up, ruling the country for a while should help him grow up.

For now she decided to follow him around and make sure he at least don't escape his responsibilities and took advantage of his power to do whatever he wanted.

She got up and went to have breakfast a little later than usual, but the staff wouldn't mind really. The activity in the palace was normal, with the maids butlers and guards going around and doing their jobs like every day and didn't change too much since the explosion. There were some extra guards the duke lend from his state and the maids and butlers had less work, but the routine didn't change much

In the table she only found Lina and her maid already eating their breakfast and after saying good morning she sat with them. She even find out he cat was eating under the table

"So how are Lina? Every one treating you alright?"(Elena)

"Yes! every one have being really nice and the maids give me candy and I got a cat and and..."(Lina) answer in excitement

This made both Elena and the maid smile, since they where worried that she might be sad because of her father, but since she was acting cheerfully, this lift a weight in their hearts. It was possible it was an act, but at least they would keep trying to make her happy

"So how is the cat?did you give him a name?"(Elena)

"He is really nice, he let me pet him and he usually follow me around so I name him sir Lancelot"(Lina)answer with a smile

"Oh, a knightly name, did you came up with it?"(Elena)

"No, Aria recommended to me and I like it"(Lina)

Elena wasn't surprised in Arias choise, it was a common cat name(she didn't know why) and the knight Lancelot was a famous kids story about a knight that got famous in beating all kind of enemy's with his lance and since his name was Lancelot it was a pun kids enjoyed,

They kept talking about the cats and other things and when they all finish, they left the table and started to walk around. It was later that they found out that the prince was going around interrogating the staff about a dead maid. They got curious and searched for the prince.They found him walking around with Susan and a new girl

ANOTHER ONE!!!!!!!(Elena) almost went into a frenzy

She couldn't believe that every single day he found a new girl, every single day.......

Luckily for the pricne, years of knowing Elena warn him of his impending doom if he didn't think fast.

"Hey girls, let me introduce you to detective Rayle"(Prince)made a move

"Nice to meet you"(detective) greeted the girls

"And they are Elena, lina and her caretaker"(Prince)didn't know the maid name so he skillfully dodge it

"Pleasure, to meet you"(Elena)missing her opportunity to rampage at the prince

"Hi!"(Lina) a little shy

"So, what are you doing?"(Elena) glaring a little at the prince

"eh, it is a routine questioning about a person that use to work here"(Prince)

"Why?"(Elena)

"Well.. she was found dead and the detective here is trying to find useful information about the girl. I decided to help her in every way I can"(Prince)

Elena find it strange for the prince to actually do extra work for the goodness of his heart

"Really? you don't mind if I help too right?"(Elena) threatening the prince with her tone a glare

"No problem"(Prince)knew he couldn't refuse

"Can I come too?"(Lina)pleaded with her eyes

After looking at her eyes,you could tell he couldn't just say no, but a murder investigation wasn't a place for a little girl, so he looked at the maid in hope that she could get him out of it

"We can't Lina, it is not something a little girl should get involved in"(Maid)

"Fine"(Lina)disappointed

In the end, the two of them left, and Elena stayed with the prince and watched how the investigation proceeded.

It was pretty boring since all of them keep repeating the same lines with little difference, so she stopped paying attention after a while and just kept following them. It was when a guard started to act estrange that she stop daydreaming and that's when all went to sh*t.

Before she could even react, Susan had being knock out and a dagger was pointing at her heart. The guard was grabbing her from behind and ordering all not to move. She could see the worry in every one faces and the anger that the prince show, even she had being surprised at the blood lust he was emitting

But in the end, she felt the knife enter her body, and she saw an unbelievable amount of blood pouring out of her wound. The last thing she saw was the prince holding her in his arms with a worried face. She didn't know why, but she though it was funny seeing the prince like that.

Elena woke up on a bed and could feel all her body hurting. As soon as she started to move, a maid saw it and got up with a happy expression

"Elena you finally woke up, we where worried you would never wake up"(Maid) said cheerfully

"What happen? where I am?"(Elena) with her voice a little rough

"Wait a minute, I Will go fetch your father, he has being worried sick"(maid) left the room after saying that

She tried to get up but it was too painful to move since every part of her body hurt so she decided to moved a bit at the time and the pain started to diminish as she keep moving. Her muscle weren't atrophied so it hadn't past a long time, but there was some friction with the movement, so she wasn't at 100%

Her father arrived after a few minutes and he had a big smile on his face and with his eyes a little teary

"Elena!!!! I was so worried!"(Father) hugged her daughter

"Father! what happen? where am I?"(Elena)

"Are you ok? does it hurt anywhere?"(Father) worried for her daughter condition

"I am fine,i just have muscle pain"(Elena)

"Good good, the doctors said you should be ok, they just weren't shure when you would wake up"(Father)

"How long has it being since.... that"(Elena) didn't want to mention the stabbing

"Just a couple of days, don't worry"(Father)

"What happen to the... "guard" "(Elena)

"He died while trying to escape"(father)answer with a tone like saying he deserved

"And the prince?"Is he ok?"(Elena)

"you don't have to worry about the prince anymore"(Father)with a serious face

"What do you mean"(Elena)

"I cancel the engagement"(Father)

"WHY!!??"(Elena)shouting

"Because you almost died!!!"(father) elevating his tone but not yelling

That made Elena flinch, and see the sad face in his father eyes, making her unable to argue back

"Since the explosion, I have being harass by nobles to cancel the engagement, since all of them see a chance to have their daughters become queen. I didn't do it because I wanted for you to be happy, but if you stay as his fiancé, your life will be in constant danger.The prince failed once already and I can't risk a second time, even if it is what you want"(father)

"but...."(Elena)

"I am sorry but you won't see the prince again"(Father)said that and left her alone

In the end, all Elena could do right now was cry, and that is what she did

Note: I changed last chapter ending to make it simple to understant(basically she was draging his body throught the ground) and added an extra way of for fun
