《Ghost Girl, Ghost Girl. She Gonna Take Your Soul!》Chapter 8: What I wanna be?

A full-on police investigation was underway and school was shut down for a few days. The press was all-over the school when it became opened again and everyone was being questioned.
Ghost Girl listened to the detectives, followed reporters, and saw the principal getting yelled by the superintendent.
James was detained along with several other people. Not as a suspect but as someone who knew Mike. The authorities didn't had any conclusive evidence to point anyone on the scene of the crime. No fingerprints on the weights, no eye witnesses, and no clues on the whereabouts of Mike's cellphone. It's a strange accident, that Mike might've slipped and dropped weights on his head. A stolen cellphone was the only clue that this case was possibly a murder, but if they can't find it, then what?
After the whole debacle, Ghost Girl stayed at school till the summer break. She pretended to be apart of the school: going to classes, stood close to her friends, and once a while helped other students.
Then her shrine was planned to be taken down on the last day of school. As a final memento, Ghost Girl's friends decided to take a photo before her shrine. Courtney was the most eager one for a picture.
Courtney gave the teacher her cellphone to take a picture. Courtney was next to the shrine at one side and the other two friends were on the other side.
With one click, the photo was taken but once everyone saw the photo, they were horrified!
The photo was three of them, but there was a ghostly image next to Courtney. A girl that look like their friend with a bashed head and bloody clothes, she did a peace sign and had a creepy smile on her face.
They quickly deleted the picture!

That was rude! Ghost Girl thought. Actually, whenever she tried to look at a mirror in the living world, she can't particular see herself. But when she saw herself in Chala's bathroom in the other realm, she scared herself!
It cost CS to fix her body and get new clothes. There's a skill to change your form too. Money, she needs a lot of CS.
Ghost Girl left her school and never planned to come back.
Once again in Chala's apartment, this time it was clean.
They both sat on the couch and Chala opened a can of beer. Ghost Girl asked what was the easiest way to obtain souls or CS.
"There are a few ways to do that without killing."
"Uh huh..."
"First, was getting a job in this realm. You know the people who work at the store and Soul Exhange? They're ghosts, but the pay sucks! A month can equal 1 CS!"
That's brutal! Ghost Girl shivered with memories working as a blue collar worker. She can deal with it if the pay was good but 1 CS a month? She'll rather die - again!
"The other way is go to places where people tend to die a lot. Hospitals, war zones, or natural disaters, places like that. Easy pickings but be careful of stiff competitors. One problem, you need a power called Soul Magnet, to draw souls from people you don't kill. Once people dies from non-supernatural ways, they go straight to reincarnation."
Chala chugged her beer and exhaled. Then Ghost Girl began to wonder...
"You can taste stuff as a reaper right?"
"Yep! It's the best!" Chala began to walk towards a mini fridge in the corner of her living room.
"I been wondering, where you get all this stuff? This is the realm of the 'afterlife,' right? Also, can I get myself a place of my own?"

"Hehe, wanna get your own place? Sorry, non-ghosts only. As for the stuff, I paid for them at another shop, kind of like a superstore. I'm getting paid as a reaper."
"Really, how do I get to be one?"
After Chala grabbed another beer can and laid back on the couch, she responded: "After a century of being a ghost, be judged, and passing a test - you will then get to be one."
Now Ghost Girl was puzzled, that's it?
"I know what you're thinking but it's not easy. Not the waiting or the judging, it's the test. You'll be tossed in a literal hell pit and have to survive for another century!"
"200 years! Wait! A test of survival?"
Chala chuckled and told her hellish experience in Kilin World. A world of the harshest environments, to an undead, it's no big deal. Except, in this world, you can feel pain, from wounds, starvation, heat, what have you. Not only that, it's a world of nightmarish monsters and what do they eat? Your soul. No second chances. You had to survive for a century as a test of determination, wit, and to gain fighting experiences.
Why go through all this? Being a reaper was more than a guide or counselor for newbie ghosts like Ghost Girl, they're also the police of sorts. They're the protectors and the enforcers of this realm. While the trials to be a reaper was...difficult, the rewards were great. Not only you can use your five senses again, the pay was freaking good.
Ghost Girl took a look at this half-naked woman getting drunk, and thought: This? This is the police?
Chala used her foot and poked Ghost Girl's head with it, who was thinking rude thoughts of her.
"Yeah, yeah. Laugh it up. So, you thinking you're not gonna move on and be something else? Gonna tell ya, you're not the first. As you can see the other reapers and demons walking around.
Take your time to think. There's no rush. Just kick back and *YAWN* relax." Chala then began to follow her own words and quietly dozed off.

Back to the world of the living, Ghost Girl wondered around her home town.
It was the middle of the day and Ghost Girl aimlessly walked into a shopping mall that she usual went to avoid staying at home.
She looked around at clothes, trading card game shop, used video game store, and the food court.
Ghost Girl didn't had much of a plan for the future except 'be at peace.' Once she obtained 100 CS, then she'll pay to move on. What's more she wanted in life un-life? Be a reaper? Demon? Actually, how do one become an angel? Chala did said it took a special person. What kind of special? Ghost Girl thought you had to do be a saint or do good deeds while alive to had that option opened? But maybe it's something else?
As Ghost Girl was mauling over what was her plans for the future, Ghost Girl walked in front of a toy store and saw a doll. A child-like doll, a girl toy that resembled a baby...
And this mall was full of people. Like Chala said, there's no need to rush.
