《Battling Records of the Chosen One》121. Pretended Weakness

In the fighting field.
The layout there was very unique. The spacious field was divided into 30 separate arenas, each of which was just about 1,000 square meters. Such a layout was good for trainees to practice their close-range fighting skills.
Sometimes, there was no enough space to retreat or dodge in a real battle. As a result, the fighting became more ferocious in the narrow space!
If the two fighters in such a battle had similar combat force, the one, who had richer battle experience and fiercer momentum for head-on fighting, would always be the winner.
So, every arena was just about 1,000 square meters. Once one left the arena, he was the loser!
As usual, those trainees in Camp 39 waited for the fighting training to get started after they entered the fighting field and came up to the arenas their draws corresponded to.
However, this time, many trainees more or less paid attention to the No. 13 Arena in the center of the fighting field.
Their eyes were full of excitement and gloat, as on-lookers. Only Ning Meng furrowed his brows with a trace of concern in his heart.
Standing upright on the arena, Lin Xun was much taller after three weeks. With his slender figure in perfect proportion, he had a chiseled face, straight nose, and dark eyes. Now, he had an elegant bearing and a preeminent aura.
Originally, he was good-looking. With the growth of his age and the sufferings these days, he had become a handsome young man.
A few female trainees’ eyes brightened upon seeing such a scene. For the first time, they felt that the so-called coward was handsome.
Sometimes, Lin Xun felt strange, too. The more the others practiced, the fiercer they became. But he became more ethereal by cultivation. With regard to his appearance, he was cute, and seemed innocent and warm.
“You bastard, I’ve waited for you for a long time!”
Shin Wenbin was standing opposite Lin Xun and smiled ghastly, with cruelty in his eyes. Since he came to grief due to Lin Xun on the first day of training, he had been hating Lin’s guts.
Having seen Lin Xun appear before him, Shin Wenbin couldn’t hold back his hatred any more.
Especially for today when he fortunately selected Lin Xun as his rival via the draw, he thought that even God supported him to revenge himself.
If he didn’t make Lin Xun suffer this time, he would feel that he let God down.
“Maggot.”
With a smile, Lin Xun spat out one word.
“You...”
Shin Wenbin was stunned, and then he suddenly remembered that Lin Xun once humiliated him with maggots that ate excrement every day. At this point, the anger Shin had held back burst out, and his face became ferocious.

“You’re asking for death.”
As sharp as swords, his fingertips ruthlessly stabbed at Lin Xun’s throat.
The air boomed. Apparently, Shin Wenbin was like a ball of raging fire, and his hands seemed a pair of blazing blades, producing hot and terrifying spiritual fluctuations.
Flaming Cloud-splitting Saber!
It was a fighting skill handed down from the generation to generation in Shin’s Family. Although there was a “saber” in its name, it was an extremely powerful palm manual. If someone practiced it to the high level, his palm would look like a burning cloud full of formidable power.
Qi Can in the distance nodded his head upon seeing this scene. Shin Wenbin seemed domineering and violent, but his fighting capacity and natural endowments were extraordinary.
Now, he had reached the ninth level of the Martial Realm. Therefore, it was quite easy for him to defeat Lin Xun who was at the sixth level.
Most people present shared the same thought with Qi Can. They couldn’t help wanting to see how badly Lin Xun would be beaten.
Only Ning Meng frowned badly and felt worried about Lin. Shin’s fighting capacity roughly ranked at the medium level in the Camp 39. His strength level was not on the top, but absolutely not low.
However, Lin Xun gave up training three weeks ago, and his ranking had always been at the bottom. Thus, how would he deal with Shin Wenbin?
What was worth mentioning was that though many people paid attention to the battle between Lin and Shin, they respectively fought on their own arenas at the same time.
Because of distraction, Ning Meng was almost smashed on his forehead by his rival on the arena. Immediately, his face became serious. With a roar, Ning rushed out like an outrageous dragon. He brandished his palm on the face of his rival, making his rival scream and pushing his rival out of the arena.
His rival was Ye Xiaowu who belonged to the circle of Qi Can, Shin Wenbin, and so on.
Ning Meng was perhaps concerned that Lin Xun would be bullied by Shin, so he vented his rage on Ye Xiaowu. Ye was wounded so severely that he had to drop out of the training.
Ning Meng slightly reduced his indignation. At the same time, exclamations arose in the central arena.
Turning his head, Ning saw Lin stand still in situ, but Shin was on that arena. Ning Meng’s heart sank. Did Lin lose the battle? This thought froze Ning for a while.
Ning Meng became stupefied when he finally caught sight of Shin. Shin Wenbin was sitting on the ground with the left half of his face swollen, and looked extremely embarrassed.
What...had happened?
Ning Meng was really dumbfounded. Just now, he just used one move to push Ye Xiaowu away, and the whole process only took several seconds. However, in this several seconds, Lin Xun defeated Shin Wenbin, too!

Ning Meng felt a little confused. What the hell had happened?
Besides Ning Meng, the other trainees present acted like they saw a ghost. Many of them were distracted, so that they were defeated by their opponents on the arenas.
“How did this happen?” In the distance, Qi Can’s eyes twinkled.
Wen Mingxiu, Mou Lengshin and the others in the same circle with Shin Wenbin, became frightened and doubtful.
Having seen that Shin made a powerful move, all of them thought that Lin couldn’t resist it and would end up in lying on the ground.
It was beyond imagination that Lin took a step forward instead of dodging. He used the most ordinary move-WDPD (white-dragon to penetrate defense) of Marching Boxing to destroy Shin’s defense. As his punch landed on Shin’s left face, Shin flew out of the arena with a scream.
The whole process lasted for only seconds, almost dazzling the others
However, after making sure that it really happened, many people were astonished, and then they looked at Lin in a little different way.
Seemingly, Lin Xun had progressed, too. But his cultivation level was absolutely lower than the eighth level of the Martial Realm. However, why was his combat effectiveness so high?
Nobody knew the reason.
Standing on the gate of the fighting field, Young Ke had seen the whole process. Calm and composed, she didn’t feel strange at all. If Lin Xun couldn’t do that, the three weeks that she had spent in training him privately would be wasteful.
“Damn it!”
Shin stormed. He sprang to his feet and rushed toward the arena again. His left face seemed swollen, but he wasn’t wounded severely.
Shin Wenbin couldn’t accept the fact that the only one move from Lin could really knock him into the air. Worse still, he was punched on the face in front of so many people.
The incident totally humiliated and enraged Shin. His eyes reddened.
He couldn’t believe that Lin Xun was that powerful. Shin thought that owing to his neglect, he was defeated by Lin.
Yes, his neglect must be the reason for his failure.
While he comforted himself, he rushed forward with a roar.
Whoever was defeated on the arena would be deducted one point. In return, the winner would obtain one point. Unless someone was injured so badly that he couldn’t participate in the battle, the one wasn’t allowed to quit the training. If someone took the initiative to surrender, he would be kicked out of Bloodthirsty Camp.
Boom!
With his body emitting brightly burning glow and his fingers sending out formidably scorching heat, Shin Wenbin looked like the terrific God of War.
In the distance, Ning Meng was absorbed with the hope of not missing any details.
Many people present shared the same thought. Until now, they couldn’t imagine how Lin Xun defeated Shin Wenbin with only one strike.
After all, Lin Xun gave up training three weeks ago, and he was described as a coward by most people. How could he become so powerful?
Everyone wanted to figure it out.
On the arena, neither did Lin Xun outflank nor did he sidestep. Like last time, he simply took the initiative to step forward and throw a punch.
Marching Boxing-TRDM (tiger rushing down the mountain)!
Each one present had such a simple punch down pat. However, the powerful Shin Wenbin was pushed away again by it.
This time, his right face was punched. Mixed with his blood, his teeth lost. With a scream, he fell out of the arena once more. All people fell into dead silence immediately.
They all were shocked by the scene that Lin used the most fundamental Marching Boxing to defeat Shin Wenbin who had practiced Flaming Cloud-splitting Saber, a secret fighting skill handed down from forefather of Shin’s Family. It was inconceivable!
Finally, they came to realize that the speculations and definitions they had given about Lin Xun were totally wrong
Neither did Lin Xun quit training on his own initiative, nor was he a coward clown. Apparently, he had utilized the three weeks to improve his combat effectiveness greatly.
This scene paled many people’s faces, especially Qi Can, Wen Mingxiu, Mou Lengshin, and the others in the same circle with Shin Wenbin. Now, their faces were changing drastically.
At first, they wanted to make fun of Lin Xun. However, surprisingly, the truth slapped them hard across the faces, making them look like a bunch of ridiculous clowns.
“Marching Boxing isn’t terrifying, but the Marching Boxing in the Mastery realm of Martial Tao is formidable. The speed of his progress over the three weeks is as quick as that of the others present...”
Shi Yu murmured in his heart. Moreover, Lin Xun’s performance proved his thought that a person like Lin Xun was doomed to be someone someday!
Ironically, Shin Wenbin thought as he reached the ninth level of the Martial Realm, he could bluff and bluster. Now, a beating was his due punishment.
“Fuck! He’s pretended to be weak all the time.”
Ning Meng finally got it. As he felt excited, he couldn’t help sighing in his heart that Lin was too foxy. The reason Lin kept silent before was that he wanted to defeat Shin Wenbin at this juncture.
Lin Xun was too cunning!
Thinking of this, Ning Meng couldn’t hold back his laughter. Put it this way: what Lin did was sinister, but his actions made Ning Meng pleased.

NOVA INTERIT.US
It's 2063, and the town along with much of the nation are in disarray. The decay started years before the Great Event. Our town still had hope thanks to the five families, who'd created a blockchain based water distribution system for the locals, a valuable secret hidden from the Global Water Commission and their network of mercenaries. Earlier in the mid-2040's, right after the state secessions of Idaho, Montana, and Texas, the Global Council of Water Commissioners made their deals and moved into towns throughout the country. They called it "the integration." The Commission and their contractors integrated with municipal water departments, using their organized network to invade like parasites on local services. It all coincided with the 29th Amendment to the United States Constitution, later referred to as the Regional Trident Plan. Nova is a story about survival, power structures, the turning of relationships, and the networking between people and the systems to which they belong. It’s about A.I. blockchain possibility, and its potential for human betterment versus our detriment. It’s about the question of whether or not we need to be saved from ourselves, and by who or what? The Great Event at the end of the first chapter might just be what actually saves us. The epilogue will take place in 2517. This scene is fully sketched and the full arc of the novel is set. I expect to finish Nova Interitus by summer of 2023. This is realist hard-sci-fi dystopian fiction. I hope you find Nova to be a challenging and consuming story. This is not something I planned to write. It all came to me in a dream and I haven't been able to stop writing it. This Royal Road posting is basically a beta test with chapters and drafts to get some feedback and see if there's any readership for this narrative. For the full experience read Nova on Substack. I will be narrating a podcast version later this year there. https://novainteritus.substack.com/
