《Sinner's & Redeemers》Chapter 2: A New Journey Just Beginning (Story Officially Starts)

It was an early morning in the city. A Young boy with short black hair and blue eyes got up from his bed and walked into the bathroom connected to his room. He looked at himself in the mirror.
"Guess today is the day Huh..." said the Boy
He quickly brushed his teeth and took a shower. After drying himself off with a towel, he put on a fresh pair of clothes. He left the bathroom and went into his room. He grabbed a necklace from his dresser, putting it around his neck. Then He opened his bedroom door and bolted out of his room.
The boy took a right after running out of his room. Running down a huge hallway, he encounters a short maid with red eyes and long silver hair.
"Morning Aunt Lisa!" The boy shouted while running down the hall.
"Morning Benjamin! Breakfast is served downstairs, Sir Archlight is also waiting for you! So hurry up before the food gets cold!" Aunt Lisa said while shouting back
Benjamin took a left down the hallway. He then ran towards the elevator at the end of the hall. Benjamin was about to click a button to call the elevator, but the elevator door opened on its own. Inside was a tall man smiling with short black hair and green eyes, wearing black gloves and a butler suit.
"Oh... *Pant* *Pant* hey.... Uncle Roland!" said Benjamin while panting from the running
"Hahaha, what a coincidence. I was just about to come get you. Did you just wake up?" said Roland
"Yea, is Uncle Archlight still waiting downstairs?" said Benjamin now regaining his breath
"He is. Come quick, before the elevator closes on you." said Roland
Benjamin quickly came inside. Then Roland pushed a button on the elevator called Floor 15.
"Will you be coming with me and Uncle Archlight on the trip?" said Benjamin while looking curious
"Nah, I gotta hold the fort down. Besides, I don't wanna distract you once the training begins." said Roland while looking back at him
"Awwww man. Won't I be gone for a while? Can you come see me and Uncle Archlight some time in the future?" said Benjamin
Roland then fell silent for a moment. Losing his smile, starring blankly at the elevator doors. Quickly he looked back at Benjamin with a cheerful smile
"I'll try!" said Roland
Benjamin being smart for his age immediately noticed the quick change in demeanor from Roland.
"Hey... Roland. Will I be abl......"
Benjamin was cutoff from talking when the elevator doors opened on the 15th floor. Roland immediately pushed him out. Benjamin turned around,

"Jee what was that for?!" said Benjamin
"See ya later Ben..." said Roland in a hopeful but sad voice
Roland clicked a button on the elevator which made the doors close. Benjamin now feeling anxious because of Roland's odd demeanor, he quickly walked down another hallway leading towards the dining room. In the center of the room was a table with a man sitting in a chair. He has silver hair and a handsome looking face, while also wearing a tall black trench coat with black leather gloves which were badly burnt.
The man instantly knowing when Benjamin entered the room, he quickly looked at him.
"Sit down Ben." said the Man wearing a trench coat
Benjamin quickly sat in a chair across from where he was sitting. A shy maid with purple hair and glasses served food to Benjamin and the Man with the trench coat.
"Thanks Aunt Maria." said Benjamin with a smile
Maria smiled back. Then the man with the trench coat nodded his head towards her. She quickly bowed, and proceeded to leave the room.
Now with nobody around but Benjamin and the Man wearing the trench coat, Benjamin began to talk.
"Hey *Crunch* *Crunch* Uncle Archlight." says Benjamin while eating food at the same time
"Finish your food before you talk. I thought you would know your manors by now." said Archlight
"Sorry." said Benjamin
"What did I say? I don't wanna hear a single word out of you when eating." Said Archlight with a pissed off demeanor
Benjamin stopped trying to talk and quickly finished his food.
"Can I speak now?" said Benjamin
Archlight stood up from his seat.
"Follow me. The first test shall now begin." said Archlight
"Wha... Now?! At this time? I only just woke up!" said Benjamin making a excited but surprised expression
Archlight started walking towards a corner in the dining hall with Benjamin following him.
Now arriving at the corner Benjamin said, "Why are we here? Aren't we gonna go outside and go to the other side of the wall?
"In order to do so, you must prepare yourself. You seem to think too fondly of the streets. I'll show you one of the many things you will see while training.
Archlight then crouched on the floor, He took out a knife. Then he stabbed it into a crack on the floor.
"What are you doing?" said Benjamin being confused
Archlight stood back, pushing back Benjamin as well. All of a sudden, a huge square in the floor started to move. A huge stair case appeared that led down into a dark abyss.

"Woah... I never knew this was here before. What's inside?" said Benjamin
Archlight went down the staircase silently without answering his question. Benjamin followed in his footsteps. On the right side of the wall once the staircase ended, there was a rack of weapons. Archlight picked up a sword and immediately the sword burst into flames. Then it controlled itself, now looking as bright as the sun.
"What's your taste in weapons?" said Archlight
"I don't know, I never used one before." said Benjamin
"Good. I shall teach you the way of the sword first, then I'll teach you how to use Firearms." said Archlight
Archlight grabbed an extra sword and pistol from the rack of weapons. Now walking down a dark hallway, Archlight used the sword as light to be able to see forward. While walking down the dark hallway, there was distant moaning and screams.
"What... are those noises?" said Benjamin while sounding scared
"You'll see soon enough." said Archlight with a straight face
10 minutes later..
"We're here." said Archlight
Now hearing the moans and screams even louder, Archlight made the sword even brighter. With the sword being brighter, Benjamin looked around.
"Are these... cells? Benjamin said while feeling very disturbed
"Look in here." said Archlight
Benjamin got close to the iron bars of one of the cells. He looked inside. He saw a naked man in a corner starring right at him with completely pale skin and having huge dark black eyes with blood all over his hands and mouth.
"AHHH" Benjamin screams then falling over.
"WHA, WHAT IS THAT THING!" Benjamin said while screaming
"That "thing" was once a human. Not too long ago I was hired by a person to kill a cannibal that eat his entire family in the streets. I found the hideout the cannibal was in. I was gonna kill him, but then I figured I could save this monster for you during training." said Archlight
"Save.. it.. for me? What do you mean?"
Archlight then opened the iron gate and pushed Benjamin inside. Archlight quickly locked the gate behind Benjamin.
"UNCLE, WHY." said Benjamin now almost pissing himself
"Fight him, or die." said Archlight with a small smirk
Archlight quickly gave Benjamin the extra sword he grabbed earlier. Benjamin turned around and faced the cannibal. The cannibal now realizing that Benjamin is now inside, he started to slowly crawl on all fours up to Benjamin. Suddenly, the cannibal launched itself at Benjamin. Being unskilled when it comes to combat, Benjamin was unable to dodge and fell to the ground dropping the sword in the process.
"UNCLE WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO... HES..... TOO STRONG I CANT..... FIGHT IT...." says Benjamin while barely being unable to speak due to the fighting
Archlight stood silent, not even bothering to help nor give advice.
After 10 seconds struggling to keep the cannibal off of him, Benjamin calmed himself down while under the pressure. Now starting to think fast, Benjamin started to try and look for weak spots. He looked down at the cannibals skinny stomach and started to hit it with his knee. However, it only aggravated the creature even more. Struggling even more, Benjamin tried it again but nothing happened. Benjamin tried one more time kicking the monster in his stomach, This time the cannibal let go one of his hands to try and stop the knee from hitting his stomach even more. Benjamin then immediately reached for the cannibals left eye. Gouging it in the process. The cannibal then backed up screeching in pain. Amazed, Benjamin had a huge surge in confidence.
But it didn't matter. The cannibal backed up then launched himself at Benjamin again. But then, a wall of flame went across the room. Slicing the cannibal into two while in the air. The torso and the rest of the body now fell on the floor burning in flames.
"Congratulations, You passed the first test." said Archlight
"But.. I didn't kill him." said Benjamin with a confused and stricken look
"That's not what this test was about. It was the ability to think under pressure and do what's needed to survive." said Archlight with an impressed look
"But anyone could do such a simple thing." said Benjamin
"Not everyone, Most Redeemers tend to panic and allow themselves to die almost instantly. The enemy was way stronger than you, yet you still stayed calm and tried to look for a weak point in the dire situation you were in." said Archlight
"Even with me staying calm, I can't fight these monsters. I don't even know how to use a sword properly." said Benjamin with a depressed voice
"Ben, your training just started. Don't be too hard on yourself. I'll be the one being hard on you. Now follow me, we will come back here later." said Archlight with a calm voice

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

This was ment to be the self-published 'real' book of Binary Progression; turns out there isn't much of a market for this kind of story... that and it sucked! What’s worse, JohnWillStab, the number-one edgelord on the server is somehow ending up in positions of power despite literally being an undead rogue with evil magic tentacles! Will John’s edginess ruin the isekai? Why does the doctor have the highest kill-count in the game? Is 👑 really a valid character you could use for your username? Can the chef perform an exorcism?
