《Demon Fate》CH 2 PART 2 A Smithy

It was early in the morning as a boy who was strangely muscular approached a tiny smithy at the borders of the kingdom. It was Welnir who had just become the disciple of Gulious Reaver. Though Welnir was committed to training, as he approached Gulious’s smithy he heard the old man snoozing.
“What the hell is going on here?!”
Having opened the doors Welnir went inside to the smithy. As he entered he was shocked as he saw the old man sleeping on the ground with beer in his hand. Additionally the whole floor had beer scattered everywhere
“Ah, you came pretty early! I didn’t expect my disciple to be so committed! Though I can see that I did go a little too far last night. Well, since you’re already here I might as well prepare first, wait here for a bit.”
Having just woken up, Gulious yawned as he lazily went down into a basement area which had a cloth covering as a door. Observing Gulious, Welnir was curious as he didn’t know what exactly the old man was looking for. The only thing Welnir knew was that most people tested their talent with a Magic Pebble. These tiny pebbles usually emitted brightly as it would confirm one would be a mage. Though Welnir never got too far into the specifics of testing as he failed every time before.
“Ah, where the hell is that thing at! Hmm, maybe here? Ah, shit wait that’s the…!”
As Gulious swore loudly suddenly a loud boom resounded from the basement as Gulious flew out, hitting his large body against the stone walls.
“Shit, did I just destroy my whole supply of beer…?!”
“What was that?! I thought you’re here for my training. Why are you so concerned about beer?!”
Hearing this Gulious stood up and laughed.
“Ahaha the beer is more important! Wait, I mean, holy shit I think I got lost. The basement right now is a mess, though fear not disciple. I have saved the Mana Orb from being destroyed!”

Seeing things escalate, Welnir was in awe in how this old man had survived for so long as he seemed like an alcoholic destined to drink his life away, possibly from an accident caused by being drunk. Though the old man was weird and careless, Welnir was intrigued as he saw a ball that kept warping in different shapes.
“What is that? A Mana Orb? Is that a way to test my talent like Magic Pebbles?”
Hearing this the old man Gulious nodded as he walked and got an anvil as a table placing the orb onto it. Truly from observing this Welnir felt awkward at how shabby and scuffed the setup was.
“Now, don’t mind how shabby this is! The true elegance is the transforming orb. Now, a Mana Orb is a special type of testing equipment.”
Explaining the orb, Gulious approached the orb as he hovered his hand above it. As he did so suddenly the orb transformed fiercely as it spinned quicker and quicker. What seemed to be seconds a few minutes went by as suddenly Gulious was breathing heavily. From observing the Mana Orb, Welnir was astonished as suddenly a crystalline shaped fire was floating inside the orb.
“Huff, this is a mana affinity which shows your type of mana. If you observe further you will see 12 dots and what those mean is your talent. The more dots that are connected the higher your talent is and how fast you can go. My talent connects 5 dots which is just above the average.”
As Gulious said this, Welnir was surprised as he looked towards Gulious. How did a man famed for being really strong throughout the continents in decades to come only have 5 dots of talent? Though as Welnir observed this he knew this old man had secrets.
“I chose you specifically for this. I know you have an extraordinary talent, Welnir. Your affinity, I hear it screaming death to me, it repels with raging energy.”
As his words resounded, Gulious had let go of his hands off the Mana Orb. Gulious having let go of the Mana Orb, Welnir’s heart pumped heavily as suddenly a call was shouting at him inside his head.

“Kill him. Consume everything in your path and kill him!”
Wide-eyed and with a headache suddenly Welnir dropped kneeling down. Confused and not knowing what to do, Welnir tried to resist the voice.
“It seems my deduction and my senses never deceive me. Your mana affinity, it is sentient, is it not, Welnir? I suggest not fainting, if you do that voice will consume you, and you will die a horrible death”
Hearing this Welnir nodded as he struggled to stay conscious as the voice screamed at him wanting to kill the man in front of him. Though as he struggled suddenly a second voice appeared.
“Crackle in my might, as those only committed to strike will wield me.”
In a loud crackling confident manner a second voice weighed in as the headache became worse for Welnir.
“Keep trying to stay awake, if you don’t I won’t be able to help! That sentient mana affinity needs to be contained properly.”
As Gulious said this he hurriedly went down into the basement once again as he came back quickly this time. In Gulious’s hands appeared to be a large Mana Orb which acted same as the previous. As Gulious approached he initiated for Welnir to touch it with both of his hands.
“Touch it with both of your hands, if you don’t your mana will erupt and burst out of control and kill you.”
Hurriedly slamming both his hands onto the Mana Orb, the Mana Orb changed drastically. The Mana Orb twisted and turned fluidly, as minutes passed it strangely turned into something grotesque. A twisting shadowed face appeared that looked like some sort of mist. Though it looked weird, suddenly a bright azure colored lightning bolt appeared beside the mist.
“What the…?”
Looking at the large Mana Orb Gulious observed the two affinities captured inside the Mana Orb. As Gulious observed, he was in awe as he looked at the shadowed misty affinity.
“This affinity, in my entire life I have never seen anything like this! All of its dots are connected too…”
Moving forward, Gulious looked at the other mana affinity. From just looking at this Gulious knew this was the lightning affinity. Throughout the world there were the 7 affinities that mages are born with and they were fire, water, earth, nature, light, lightning, and space
If one were to rank the rarest and most powerful affinities it would be space being the most powerful and then into light, lightning, earth, fire, water, and nature. Looking into the Mana Orb, the affinity had 9 connected dots indicating a near perfect affinity.
“Young boy, you are truly a genius! A perfect affinity never seen before! A lightning affinity near perfection!”
Though Gulious congratulated him, Welnir was dizzy as his status panel appeared before him as he fell unconscious.

Sexy Sect Babes
“One in a billion.” Jack kept repeating the mantra in his head. “One in a billion.” That was the number the Omni-Corps liked to cite whenever someone stepped onto one trans-mat pad and then simply… never stepped off the other. “Safer than a car,” he repeated as he slogged through the snow, his mining overalls doing at least a passable job of keeping out the cold as he brushed aside a tree branch. “Safer than a plane. Or a starship. Safest form of transport in the Star League.” He slammed his fist into a nearby tree, exo-empowered strength shattering it into little more than scattered bark and kindling. “Yeah, well I never heard of a car ride stranding some prick in another dimension!” He roared, his voice echoing through the seemingly endless forest around him. Then he kept marching. He’d seen the fire off in the distance. And given all the snow around, he sincerely doubted it was natural. Which left the unnatural. Which meant people. He hoped. Because even if the trans-mat had screwed up, he doubted it had dumped him too far off the central finite curve. The fact that the air was breathable and that he could recognize the trees around him as oak told him that much. And if the dimension he was in had trees native to Earth, chances are it would have animals too. Of which humans would hopefully be no exception. “Because I’ll be damned if I spend the rest of my days talking to goddamn squirrels.” No, if there were humans on this mudball, he was going to find them. One way or another.
