《Breaking The Game》Quest 48: Explore A Hotel

“Oh wow!” Robyn said. The building she just entered was nothing like the others she’d been in before. Only the king’s throne room could compare. Not even in her old life did Robyn ever enjoy such a luxury. The hotel’s lobby was exquisite. The floors were made of marble and were freshly polished. A large center fountain had the statue of a mermaid pouring water from her jug. The stairs that lead the hotel’s rooms were covered with expensive carpets made from the finest threads. Butlers, maids, and receptionists alike lined up for their arriving guests and bowed deeply. They all greeted the heroes with the same phrase.
“Welcome to Quarters De Royale. We hope you enjoy your stay.” The hotel’s staff said in unison. Similar to the servants in the throne room, these people were the children of nobles that wouldn’t inherit their parent's title or land. They still had a proper education and training, so they utilized their skills to work for other nobles. It wasn’t ideal, but it was certainly better than becoming commoners. These people were also still within their right to succeed their parent’s titles should anything go wrong. They had no desire to leave the capital anytime soon. Plus, they got to meet interesting and powerful individuals who might take an interest in them.
“Naturally, we provide the best for the best. You heroes are permitted to enjoy yourself here during your stay.” Prince Morgan said with a smile. He was happy that the heroes were pleased. Several maids and butlers followed the group upstairs. The upper halls were just as extravagant. Portraits painted by popular artists lined the walls. Chandeliers hung from the ceiling to provide light. Even the doors that led to individual rooms were outstanding. Clearly, no expense was spared when this building was constructed.
“This is so cool,” Rex said. His jaw was practically on the floor. The Unnamed Team had spent every night so far in The Feral Tomcat. That tavern was built inside a mountain. Its temperature dropped every night to an almost unbearable degree. Loud and annoying patrons could be heard at all hours until the bar closed. A place like that paled in comparison to Quarters De Royale. One would be forgiven to think they were dreaming.

“Are you sure we’re allowed here?” Emma asked. She and Oliver were worried. They were simply additions to The Unnamed Team. They were guests that should have been considered afterthoughts. Despite this, the duo was given their own rooms. It simply didn’t feel right. The two did nothing to deserve all of this except personally know The Unnamed Team. Emma felt especially awful. She only knew them because of her line of work.
“Yeah, this seems like a bit much for simple guests,” Oliver said. He also felt bad about taking advantage of the king’s hospitality. It wasn’t a secret that the team would have preferred many other people before dragging him to the capital. He was the man that almost arrested them on many occasions. He treated them poorly during their first encounter simply because they were peasants. It wasn’t right. Almost anyone else should have been brought in his stead.
“It might be, but you’re not going to hear me crying about it,” Nicholas said. He put his hand on Oliver's shoulder in a reassuring gesture. The Unnamed Team certainly didn’t hate the man. Plus, he did try to help them during the trial against Baron Niles. A trip like this was a nice way to pay him back. Maybe it did go overboard, but there’s never been too much of a good thing. At least whenever Genesis wasn’t involved.
“No doubt. It’s been ages since I’ve had my own room.” Xander said. His team had been split between two rooms since their formation. It was a good way to save money, and The Feral Tomcat had a limited capacity. Fond memories flooded the team’s mind. This was probably the closest they’d ever come to their old homes. Of course, important things like air conditioning were still missing, but magic filled the gaps to provide maximum comfortability. It was a good start. Perhaps they’d be able to make their own modern home in the future.

Everyone nodded in agreement. They all turned to their respective doors and entered their rooms. Each room was the same, but their luxury was still impressive. Expensive tiles covered the floor. A bed large enough to fit three people sat against the wall. An ornate coffee table rested in the room’s corner, and equally beautiful chairs yearned to provide their guest with a seat. A magical gold bell for calling servants sat on the table. The chandeliers and lamps were both controlled by magic and could be activated/deactivated with a simple touch or clap. Lastly, large windows were veiled by expertly crafted curtains and showed a full view of the capital.
It was breathtaking. Everyone except the prince, who’d seen it before, was in shock. Several minutes passed as the guests got comfortable in their room. Armor was stripped and replaced with comfortable linen clothes provided by the hotel. Relaxation was in the air…until a crash was heard. Due to the size and construction of each room, only Nicholas and Morgan were able to hear the sound. They left their rooms and entered the one between them.
“Did something happen?” Morgan asked as he walked into Rex’s room. Nicholas arrived not a second later. They glanced around. None of the butlers or maids were coming. They must have not heard the commotion. The only person present was the young hero, Rex.
“Just dropped my weapon. It rolled off the shelf.” Rex said. He was standing by his bed. The side table rested at his side, but it was noticeably barren. He crouched down to pick up his dropped steel rod. It was a careless mistake. Rex must have neglected his equipment when he started to relax.
“That was rather loud for a simple steel rod,” Morgan said. His eyes narrowed. As a [Prince], he could instantly tell when someone was lying. It was a powerful class that came with many resistances. Not even Nicholas’s [Master Liar] would fool Morgan. Despite this, there were plenty of ways to bypass detection.
“Well, it also clattered against the tiled floor. Wood usually softened the sound, so I never noticed when it happened back home.” Nicholas said. He shared a room with Rex. This sort of situation wasn’t uncommon. Rex would set his weapon on something. Its cylindrical shape would cause it to roll. It would fall to the ground and startle people. The only difference was how nice this place was compared to The Feral Tomcat. The tavern’s wooden floor was soft and ruined from many spilled drinks. It wasn’t surprising to see how the two different environments resulted in different sounds.
“Truly?” Morgan asked. He only knew of the Rex that wielded a [Blessed Blade]. A weapon like that deserved to be treated with the utmost respect. That would be common knowledge to any hero. The sword shouldn’t have been at risk of falling like that. Of course, it was really the rod that kept falling, but the duo just left Morgan to his beliefs.
“Yeah, so something similar must’ve happened,” Nicholas said with a smile. Rex looked a bit worried. His friend must have discovered the truth. It’s not like he hid it very well. The prince’s position was the only reason he couldn’t see it. Nicholas, on the other hand, could see the shattered lamp at his friend's feet from the window’s reflection.

(This story is a complete reworking of the entire Original Trilogy. I'm going to be borrowing material from both canon and legends because of it, but everything prior to A New Hope, including Rogue One and the Clone Wars, is all taken as true. This will be the first book in a trilogy I'm hoping to make, so stay tuned or leave some comments if you have any ideas on how I can improve!)
