《Rifts in the Weave》076 - Evening - October 21, 2020 - Outside of Durham, North Carolina

A black truck, loaded down with supplies, was parked at a rest area just outside the city. Inside, a woman leaned back against the headrest. Fatigue and worry were writ large in the soft pixie like features of her face. Her eyes, closed at the moment, were framed by dark marks and lines of strain. The car was silent, though it was an expectant silence.
“I can’t believe you’re even considering this.” The voice was harsh, angry, and filled the cab. He was furious, he had ever right to be.
“What else can we do?” Her voice was just as strained, though filled with anxiety and exhaustion.
“WE can leave it to the professionals, Lil. It’s not your job.”
“Then whose job is it?”
“Not yours. Let the government handle it.”
“You heard what he said last night.”
“He said they have it under control. He said that they were getting reports from inside.”
“And you believe him?”
“What are we supposed to do, Lil? Save the goddamn world?”
“Wasn’t that what we set out to do all those years ago? To change the world?”
“Change it, not save it. Nobody can save a world that doesn't want to save itself.”
Lillian pinched the bridge of her nose, squeezing against the frustration that filled her. “Who are we to decide that they don’t want to save themselves? We don’t even know what’s going on in there!”
“Exactly!” He yelled back at her. “We have no idea what’s going on in there. There is nothing coming out. Nothing!”
“Don’t you want to know? Don’t you even care?”
“Fuck that, Lil. Of course I want to know. My fucking family is in there.”
“But you’re content to let them handle it?”

“What in the hell else am I supposed to do? Drop everything and go haring off into the unknown with nothing but my damn idealism to cling to?”
“Don’t you fucking dare, Chris. Don’t you fucking dare. My family is in there and I’ll be goddamned if I’m going to just leave them there.”
“I’m not asking you to just leave them there, damn it. I’m asking you to fucking think. Do you really think you can do anything that the government can’t? They’re sending the national guard. They do’t need you. We need to wait until we know something.”
“Are you planning to wait until they’re all dead?”
“We don’t even know if they’re in direct danger.”
She snorted, scrubbing both hands over her face as though she could erase the fatigue and frustration. “We don’t know they’re not either.”
“I get it. I really do. You’re worried about them. I’m worried about them. You want to help, I want to help. There has to be something we can do without risking our lives.”
“I can’t believe you’re not willing to risk your life for our family.”
“You are my family, Lil. I can’t believe you would even think of leaving without me.”
Again she scrubbed at her face, wiping tears from her eyes. “You won’t do anything, Chris. I know you. You won’t.”
“It’s stupid.” Chris answered. “It really is. To assume that we could make any difference in there. We don’t even know what’s going on in there.”
“You think they’re going to tell us whatever they find out? What they’ve probably already found out. Fuck that, Chris.” She was silent for a breath. Then she repeated, “Fuck that.” She sat forward, hand hovering over the button on the dashboard that would end the call. “Listen, I’ll wait here for one hour. That’s long enough for you to get here. You can come with me or you can sit on your ass at home. I’m going.” She pressed the button then grabbed her cell, turning it off. He would come or he wouldn’t, either way, she was going to find her family.

Child of Dusk
Life can be cruel, especially to those who don't fit in. But what would you do if you were given a second chance? Tim was a nobody during his time on Earth. As a penniless orphan with no friends to speak of, life was tough for him in his little Arizona town in the '90s. He'd utterly lost hope for the future until one day, he was reincarnated as Alvanue, beloved daughter and heir to the Starlit Throne of Silthonduen. Now, Alvanue has everything a princess could ever want: a loving family, loyal comrades and an entire kingdom at her finger tips. But what good is a kingdom when there's a whole world of magic and mystery out there to explore? *** Ok! Disclaimer time. I do edit my own work and I do not have a beta reader, so please feel free to point out any errors or plot holes (politely, of course). Each chapter will be around 4,000 to 6,000 words long and while I was posting every day at the beginning, I think I'll cut that down to once a week for now, excluding bonus chapters! I really don't want to get burned out. I started writing this because I love world building, so this is gonna be heavy on lore. If you're not into that, there's still a ton of character progression and action to look forward to! It's going to be slow at the beginning, but I promise it will pick up eventually. Thanks for checking my story out, I appreciate it a lot!

Code Name: GLITCH
Major Xiomar Haydn is a damn good soldier, and an even better mechanic, although he does have a tendency to get himself thrown into the stockades for getting on the general's bad side. To keep him busy and out of trouble, Xiomar is assigned the task of repairing an old Mech that hasn't been touched in fifteen years. He knows he can fix it--he's Chief Mechanic. What he doesn't know, however, is that GLITCH has a mind of its own. Literally. In the midst of a war between two countries, Xiomar and his newly-repaired Mech are caught in the middle. The enemy is trying to obtain GLITCH's technology... the power to give their own Mechs sentience and dominate the world. Xiomar finds himself pondering the morality of forcing a sentient being to fight on his behalf, and what that means for him as a dutiful soldier. With the future filled with uncertainty, Xiomar and GLITCH are certain of one thing--no one's going down without a fight.

Getting Hard (Journey of a Tank)
Herald Stone always built tank characters in every MMORPG he played. To be immortal—that was his first Goal, a simple childhood dream. However, the turbulent realities of life put an end to his gaming days. Years passed, and Herald Stone, now having attained success and stability, was presented with the opportunity to redeem himself...to fulfill his first Goal. Trivial? Childish? Others might think so. But Herald Stone always fulfilled his Goals—every single one. No matter what. Immortality beckoned in Mother Core Online, and this time Herald Stone would answer. Choosing a long-forgotten race, hidden away in an unknown region, the journey of an immortal tank begins. This is the tale of Herald Stone...getting hard. Schedule: Mon-Wed-Fri ~1.8k-2.3k words per chapter. Also published on Scribblehub. My other ongoing story: REND | Royal Road Expect a focus on building a true tank in MMORPGs. Heavy game elements and numbers are present. But actual math will take a backseat to strategies involving skill builds and synergies that steadily become more complex while remaining understandable. The main character is atypical in LitRPGs or web novels as a whole. He might take some getting used to. Character arcs will develop over a long period. What you see now will be different as the main character changes. The start of Getting Hard is slow-paced (more so than others of the genre) and includes world-building and character development before focusing on the LitRPG.
