Chapter 7: Voice box
Haa!! Finally I can see the sun!! I never thought I’d miss looking at the thing. I might be a misanthrope but I am not a shut in, Mun thought to himself as he gently guided Aura out of the cave.
Aura excitedly jumped around Mun, still to afraid to look him in the eyes, wondering where she would be taken to next. Aura is a brave girl who has had her fair share of hardships, perhaps not t the degree of mun but enough to not be afraid of the situation she finds herself. Though this is the first time someone outside her village has helped, in fact it is the first time she has been so far from her village, despite all of that she couldn’t help but feel safe having a Strange little mimic, as she liked to think, guiding her. Where did he want to take her, she thought?
At the same moment, Mun is asking himself the same thing. He knows where to take her Neyeo, but there is a language barrier so he can’t just for directions, they are both in human territory, or so Mun thinks, and worst of all Mun is a monster, he will sooner have an axe through his head than directions to his destination.
As he thought of his next steps, a sudden scream strongly resounded through the forest.
That’s odd? The voice sounds like that of a women’s, men usually don’t make such high-pitched screams. Well it is not my problem so whatever.
Mun, the cold heart, was a nickname he had been given at work when he was still alive. Mun is a true misanthrope. Mun can watch someone die in front of him without giving it a second thought, in fact he has seen people die in front of him without much reaction. Only His dear friend hope ever got a reaction out of him but after that, Mun shut his heart away, only ever briefly showing it to children. Mun is not like William who is willing to die to save one person no matter who they are.
The screaming is making it annoying to think of a plan. Mun is now more irritated than concerned over the screams. Aura on the other had is becoming worried and pulling at Muns limbs to get his attention. Aura has faced many hardships and now she has a friend to help her. “Mr mimic is strong, he can help” is her thought process.
Hmm? Do you want me to help her Aura? Mun lowers himself to her size. She is probably a horrible person Aura, you don’t have to worry about her death. Mun pets Auras head to comfort her.
Aura took his kindness the wrong way, thinking that he is willing to help, she runs off into the direction of the screams. Aura is smart, but she still only a child.

What, Damn!! Mun starts to chase after Aura.
I William were to see this seen, he would think that Mun is trying to kill Aura. Muns appearance doesn’t look like that of a kind monster, with two floating eyeballs attached to stems of wood and limbs that look like wooded tendrils. Anyone would think it is a monster chasing after a small girl for an afternoon meal.
What the hell!? Mun quickly sends out a tendril and grabs Aura by the collar, pulling her back to his postion.
“Help!!” The monstrous bird yelled.
“What the hell is that?” Is what mun wants to say but all that comes out is a simple, Goh!
“Dolum bird!!”(Aura) Aura yelled, quickly running behind Mun for cover.
The bird was enormous and stood 10 feet tall and 5 feet wide. Its legs were long and its wings covered in a strange shining oil. The feathers are covered in a disgusting slime and the Dolum birds beak, covered with several jagged teeth.
“Meal time!! Meal time!!”(Dolum) The bird screeched as it looked at its prey. The voice sounded incredibly human, no person could possibly tell the difference from far away. Yes the dolum bird tricks people into coming near and then consumes them when it has the chance. Despite its fighting countenance the actual creature is not all that strong, but can be incredibly cunning.
Race: Dolum Level: 15
It looks like I am a higher level. Mun began to think on his next move. Clearly this creature looks powerful put with Muns skill, Mun can see though facades. For a moment he thought that putting Aura though any danger is not worth it but then..
Wait!!! My ability is called the Shapeshifter(Eater). I still haven’t been able to check it but any idiot can easily see that anything I eat gets assimilated into my body. If I kill this thing and eat its throat whole, then won’t I gain the ability to speak? An ingenious plan came over Mun. True enough, he can consume the entire throat will allow him to speak freely.
All right!! Lets kill this thing.
Mun attacks sending his tendrils like small little needles. The Dolum bird, surprised that it was attacked, takes the move head on, causing the enormous creature to start bleeding. The power is more than the bird expected and jumps back.
The Dolum bird has faced many enemies in its short life, even mimics. How could it have let its guard down. Even it has some ability to estimate the ability of its opponents. This mimic should certainty be weaker. A lucky shot, it has to be a lucky shot that is all.
“SCREEE!!!” The Creature screams, a special skill to weaken his opponents. The child next to the mimics covers in pain but the mimic remains unaffected. How could it affect a mimic after all? Mimics hear with magic not with ears. The Bird quickly uses the next move in his arsenal and starts flapping it’s wings to spread the oil on its wings onto its opponent.

The mimic moves back avoiding most of the oil. The oil has to main properties, one it sticks very well to whatever it touches and secondly it has a low acidic affect and slowly melts whatever it touches. If this skill hit a human then the human would feel as if his entire body was just dipped in hot sauce, in fact some humans sometimes hunted Dolum birds for this exact reason.
The Bird is not finished with its attack and quickly charges towards the mimic and child. The Mimic, a lot more cunning for an ordinary one, sinks its sharp tendrils into the birds leg. Ordinarily the dulrums defense is enough to not be pierced but today was not an ordinary day. The dulrum was attacked before it thought it would causing fear to well up in him, causing his defense to lower, but his fear is not irrational. Its opponent is cunning far more cunning the Dolrum, the bird knew that on instinct. I will die if I continue this fight, the bird thought.
*Crsshh*
The ten foot monster collapses to the ground from having its muscles punctured. Fear now in its eyes. Today it would die. The many years of battle experience meant nothing in the face of a smarter more cunning and stronger monster. The last thing it see in its life is the face of a young child, the thing that was meant to be its meal, looking at it with an empathic tone. Then its heart is pierced and darkness. The creature dies.
Now lets see if this works. Mun began to cutting the miserable birds neck into one large piece, after all he need the thing intact. Aura who is looking a bit away, contorted her face in disgust. She always hated seeing animals being skinned but as a farmer’s daughter this is one of her many jobs. The process did not take long and after a good ten minutes Mun had finished.
Mun started to cover birds neck with his tendrils and started to consume, this made Aura look away. How could a small girl like her be able to see two eyes in the side of a large neck looking thing. She couldn’t she had to look away.
Mun at first was scared that he wouldn’t be able to assimilate the whole neck but before he knew it the neck had disappeared but the feeling of something of a throat popped up.
“Hello.” Aura jumps back, surprised that Mun spoke.
“mr mimic can speak!!!”(Aura) Aura started to jump up in down. She doesn’t know of another way to contain her excitement, of course Aura has a bit of knowledge on monsters so she knows of Muns ability to assimilate things, but having a working voice and actually speaking are two completely different matters.
“yes, I think, can you understand me” I don’t know if my voice sounds weird or not, or if that god gave me the ability to speak in more than one language.
Aura furiously nods her head, trying to tell him with all her might that, yes she understands.
“Why can Mr. Mimic speak in my language?”(Aura) Aura is curious as to how Mun could possibly have the knowledge to speak her language, after all he is a monster. Perhaps if Mun was a powerful and old monster then it would be less of a surprise, but Mun is a simple mimic and a rank 1 Mimic too.
“Would you believe that I was once human and have now been reborn into the body of a monster?” surprisingly, Mun confides to the little girl to his circumstances. Aura quickly nods her head. Mun quickly grabs her head, for a moment he thinks her head will fall clean off if she continues her incessant nodding.
“Really, you believe me?”
“Papa told me that he met someone like you once. They are either really bad or really good he told me!!” She starts to recount the stories her father tells about the hero’s in the world. Currently there are 11 Aura proudly told Mun, she secretly added him to that list. Out of the 11, four were summoned the others reincarnated. The small tid bit of news caught him by surprise, he didn’t think that his circumstances were actually a known matter.
I guess I’ll have to be careful about that information from now on, I’d rather not have to help the countries of this world. Though now thinking about out it, Hope would probably want me to do that. No no no. I still hate humans to much, I’ll help them if it is happening in front of me, yeah those will be my conditions from now on. And of course, if I don’t like them I’ll kill them right after. Yeah that will work.
At this moment in time, it is a good thing that Aura can’t read Muns thoughts. Her thoughts of a great hero rescuing her would quickly vanish.
“Now that I have a voice, I can properly help you find your home, but hmm I am going to need something to cover myself with.”
Mun shifted his eyeballs to look at himself. Aura shuts her eyes, as is her routine now, whenever mun starts to move his eyeballs around and now his appearance is even more terrifying with the huge disgusting throat jutting out of Muns stomach area
