《Limits》Chapter 22: Choose Boy

Nick took me back to his house, where he sat on his chair and asked "Why did you do it?". I replied, "That is what she wished for". He thought for a moment, then asked another question "Would you kill someone, if I wished for it?". I replied without thinking about it, "No". He asked, "Why?". "I'm not a murderer", was my reply. I didn't think of myself as some sort of killer, who would end lives on order. He continued, "What you did, makes you a killer, a murderer". I didn't want to repeat myself, so I didn't say anything. He asked, "You don't deny that?". It was true. I couldn't deny the fact, it was me who killed her. But, I was not a murdered. Nothing drove me to kill her. It wasn't revenge, hatred or jealousy. I just wanted to fulfil her last wish. Because I didn't reply anything, he asked a weird question. "How do you feel?". I was confused someone would ask that. I replied by asking, "How should I feel? Glad? Happy? Sad? Awful? Does it matter to you, how I feel?". Truthfully, I didn't feel bad or sick. I saw blood many times, but it was her wish as well. My mind could somehow justify it, as if I didn't do anything wrong. Nick was a bit surprised due to my lack of emotions. He asked, "Would you do it again?". My answer was, "I would. I believe in my choice. What about you? Or this village? Do you believe in your choices?". He smiled, got up from his chair and locked his house's doors. I was baffled and a bit scared. I asked "What do you want to do?". He turned towards me, but there was a knife in his hand now. I was startled, as I had no clue where he got that knife from. 'Was he going to kill me too?' I thought. I moved back into his private room. I was about to close the doors, when I suddenly felt pain in my right leg. 'What the?' I thought and looked at my leg. It was bleeding. Moreover, there was a knife stick inside. I lost balance, and fell backwards. I didn't manage to close the doors, which was a problem. The doctor walked slowly towards me, with a smile on his face. I grabbed the knife lodged in my leg, and pulled. "ARGH!", I grunted while pulling the knife out. I had a weapon, but I was also wounded. The pain didn't help with my focus. I decided for him to get closer, this would increase my chances. But he suddenly stopped, and I felt pain in my other leg. "Ungh"... I grunted again, and thought 'No... How did he even do that? I didn't see anything'. This time I didn't take it out, I just looked at the doctor. He was standing there, with another knife in his hand. I had a knife in my hand... and leg, but I was already injured, and on the ground nonetheless. He was also something else, those knives seemed to appear inside my legs. He didn't throw anything or even make any moves. He simply stood there. I decided to risk it, and threw my knife at him. While I did that, I gritted my teeth, and pulled out the other knife. I threw the other dagger, but then realised something. He just stood there, without a care in the world. My dagger got deflected by I didn't know what, and got stuck in the wall. The doctor looked at the knife stuck in the wall, then said "Not bad kid". Suddenly, I felt pain in my left arm. "Argh", I grunted again. I was pissed, and shouted "Just kill me you bastard!", but he just laughed and my other arm was pierced in exchange. I was wounded all. I couldn't get up, and I felt slightly dizzy. As if the knives were coated with some kind of drug. There more time passed, my legs as well as arms became number and number. The doctor came closer, and said "Do you want to kill me?". I answered "I didn't before, but now? I would fucking gut you bastard!". I couldn't lift my arms anymore. The knives stuck inside them, were so close for me to take, yet so far I couldn't reach them. The doctor never lost his smile. He suddenly asked, "Do you recognise this?". I was a bit confused what he meant, but then I saw the thing he was holding. 'Impossible! How did he get his hands on that?' I asked myself. What he held in his hand, was the dagger I created. He fiddled with it, and asked "Is that yours?". I didn't need to answer. The fact he had that, and ask me about it, he knew it was mine. 'How did he find it? Even the blacksmith would have to search real hard, in order to find it... Who is this guy exactly?' I asked myself. He waited patiently, until I answered "Yes, how did you find it?". He laughed for ma while, then asked "Why did you make it?". I didn't reply to that, it was none of his business. I felt uneasy, when he revealed all those things. He wasn't a normal doctor. He possessed great skills, yet posed as some sort of doctor for the village. 'He must've been a Warrior in the past. I never met someone so skilled or strong? Rand? Rand was nothing in front of this guy' I thought. I was getting weaker as the time passed. I knew I was at his mercy, whether he killed me or not... It would depend on his mood I guessed. After a while of silence, he asked "How about I help you?". I was surprised, maybe even confused. 'Help me? Why? What would he gain from that?' I thought, then asked "Why do you want to help me?". He continued "You are not that dumb, kid. Have you figured out, that Rand will not let you go after that one year?". I had those thoughts already. Nick continued, "That is why you learned how to throw hidden weapons? Then produced this?". He again showed me my dagger, I created ealier. "You were on the right path kid. Your progress could be considered not bad, since you had no one's help. I decided to help you a bit, how about it?". I thought about it, and replied "Why? What will you gain from doing this?". He replied almost immediately "Someone, who will inherit my... skills". I was lost, completely lost. 'Inheritor? What type of bullshit reason was that? He could chose many people, why me?' I thought. He saw my confusion, and added "You don't understand kid, finding an inheritor who will carry your legacy, is not easy. You are not an idiot. You can be decisive and creative. You can learn new things, and you are not biased towards anything. You are a perfect inheritor for me". I said "Yea, nice words for an old and crazy man. Have you finished your monologue? Then perhaps share with me the real reason?". He smiled in a creepy way, and said "I want carnage. I want you to destroy this village. I want you to spread fear". I was taken aback. 'This guys is crazy for sure' I thought. I narrowed my eyes, and asked "Why?". He replied promptly, "Because life is such!". I was lost, but I realised something. This guy was different. There were different kinds of people walking on this earth. One kind of such people stood out the most in the history. They weren't the righteous people, or the most benevolent. The people who stood out amongst others, were pure evil. They had no feelings at all. They could kill their own family, and usually that was what happened. History didn't speak well of such people, and they were usually hunted down. 'To think I would meet that kind of guy here. Inherit stuff from him? Was that my path for life?' I thought. After a while, I said to him "What if I say no?". He stopped smiling abruptly, and threw a knife at my stomach. "AAAARRGGHH!" this hurt much more than before. The weird thing was, I saw him throw that knife. Nick added, "You will die. What is your choice boy? Will you accept my inheritance? Or will you choose death? Choose boy".
