Chapter 1: Introductions
Everyone were frozen where they sat, all that could be heard was the young guards laughter. After a few seconds the youth turned around and smiled towards the two guards and said, “Pay up.” The two guards reluctantly pulled out their wallets and both took out a 20 Earth Dollar bill. They gave them to the youth and the older guard said, “Now that you won the bet, how about you do a proper introduction.”
While putting the money in his pocket, the youth cleared his throat and started, “Well, my name is Alex Uni and I'm 16 years old. As you can see, I'm a prisoner. The only reason I am currently in this school is because they threatened to ban me from drinking coffee if I didn't join the school.” He looked at his fellow students with a straight face and when he got to the coffee part, he pointed behind him towards the two guards. The younger guard was having trouble holding back his laughter again while the older one just kept shaking his head.
“My hobbies are napping, sleeping and hibernating. Due to circumstances, I can't take part in any class activities and I honestly don't expect to even know your names when high school ends. If you need something from me, I'd prefer if you didn't ask.” Alex always had a smile one his face as he talked, some of the students wanted to laugh at that introduction but were too afraid to.
One of the girls with straight black hair, black eyes, an oval face and a slender body raised her hand. Seeing this Alex looked at her and asked, “Yes, do you want to ask something?” The girl nodded and asked him, “Why do you hide behind your smile?” As the question dropped, Alex's face turned rigid, the guards behind him however had an interested face on. Everyone else in the class however looked at her with a puzzled gaze, “Whatever could you mean by that?” Alex asked with a still smiling face. He was starting to grow wary of the girl as he could see that she was not ordinary Joe.

“My ability is to see a persons true feelings as an aura around them, yours has been blue from the moment you started talking. Blue signifies that you are regretting something.” As the girl said that, Alex's face had lost his smile and looked serious now, even his eyes had turned cold as he thought to himself, “Just my luck, running into an ESP-er right as I walked into the classroom.” Even the guards were shocked to see Alex turn like this. They had been with the boy for two years and this was the first time, they saw him without a smile on his face. “Well, don't you know it's impolite to stick your nose into someone else's business?” Alex said in a cold voice, the girl opened her mouth to rebute him but before she could do that, Alex turned to the teacher and asked in a cold voice, “Can I go to my seat now?” The teacher feeling dread, just nodded and Alex started walking towards his seat. The guards walked right behind him and were puzzled as they had never seen Alex act like this. Alex went to sit down and as he did, an awkward silence reigned in the classroom. The teacher started going on with the lessons but Alex didn't pay her any heed. He was cursing inside, “For the love of, I knew there were a lot of ESP-ers in this school but to run into such a steel wall 5 minutes into the lesson, I must have seriously pissed off my guardian angel at some point in time.”
ESP-ers were people with special inborn abilities, they were quite common in the world and the government had put up a special department for them. When people joined this department they gained exceptional privileges, so basically every ESP-er in the country joined them. Where there are good points there are always bad ones, some people however find that department as a way to control the ESP-ers and limit their freedom and have formed various Terrorist organizations to combat that.

While it was true that most combat oriented ESP-ers did indeed kill people, they first received a choice whether to under go special training for that or not. If they didn't want to, they didn't have to go into the Combat Department. Even amongst the many ESP abilities there were good ones and bad ones, strong and weak ones. The ability the girl had, was a non combat middle class one, mostly used in interrogations. Alex however had a secret no one knew, he was also an ESP-er.
If he had joined the ESP-er department, he could have gotten out of prison in a few hours, since his ability was both a logistical and a combat one. It was categorized as high class one. The reason he didn't want to reveal his ability was that, if he did, the reason he castrated the businessman would also come to light and that was the one thing, he didn't want happening. For that to stay hidden, he was willing to endure 20 years in prison.
As everyone's eyes were continuously stealing glances at Alex, suddenly the speaker started admitting a broadcast, “This school is now under our control. All the students in it will now be escorted to the gym.” As the broadcast ended, men with cloth masking their faces, stormed into the room with assault rifles in hand. Everyone were stupefied about what was going on, no one dared to make a move as they glanced at the men. When Alex heard the broadcast he had a twitching smile on his face and only a, “Are you fucking kidding me?” was running through his mind.
When the men stormed into the classroom, his head fell to the desk with a big bang. Everyone looked at him in surprise, the terrorist included. Then as if something had clicked in his head, he lifted his head and looked at the ceiling before loudly cursing, “What the flying fuck did I do to piss off my guardian angel this fucking much. First I'm forced to go to some random bullshit school and then 10 minutes into the lesson, the whole school gets taken as a friggin hostage. Are you just fucking kidding me?”
Everyone were taken aback by that sentence and no one knew what to say to that. The guards both had a serious face on, while the terrorists looked at Alex in confusion. In a few moments every returned to their senses and the terrorists started “escorting” everyone to the gym. When all of the people inside the school had arrived, a middle aged man, with a built body and brown hair walked into the spotlight, he had a scar on his left eye and he said with a wicked smile, “We have taken control of this school, to use your lives as bargaining chips to close down that abominable ESP-er department that forces children to fight and kill.”
As the man said that, Alex just face palmed himself and mumbled in low voice, “For the love of god, couldn't you have picked a day sooner, when I wasn't fucking here...”

From James A. Hunter, author of Viridian Gate Online and War God's Mantle! Check out my first attempt at a Dungeon litRPG Novel! Roark von Graf—hedge mage and lesser noble of Traisbin—is one of only a handful of Freedom fighters left, and he knows the Resistance’s days are numbered. Unless they do something drastic … But when a daring plan to unseat the Tyrant King goes awry, Roark finds himself on the run through an interdimensional portal, which strands him in a very unexpected location: an ultra-immersive, fantasy video game called Hearthworld. He can’t log out, his magic is on the fritz, and worst of all, he’s not even human. Now, he’s a low-class, run-of-the-mil Dungeon monster. Some disgusting, blue-skinned creature called a Troll. At least there’s one small silver lining—Roark managed the grab a powerful magic artifact on his way through the portal, and with it he might just be able to save the world after all. Unless, of course, the Tyrant King gets to him first …Hey everyone, so as most of you know, I write books for a living, and I just put this title up on Amazon (and enrolled it in KU). Because KU requires exclusivity as part of their terms of service, I have had to pull the majority of the content from this site. I left the full novel up for as long as possible, so I hope everyone got a chance to read it. If you haven't had a chance to read it in its entirety (sorry!) you can pick it up on Amazon. Thanks again for coming on this journey with me, and I so hope you enjoyed it. The book will be out on Tuesday July 24th. Best, James Hunter
